QUBIT

[personal profile] glowsferatu 2016-04-28 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ continued from here! ]

[ Though she registers his presence during the panel, which is a feet on its own in a room this full, she doesn't draw attention to him. She's never quite pinged him as a superhero, and he certainly doesn't wear a costume. There isn't much to say about him in the current discussion.

Once the panel is done with, she does go up to greet him, still wearing her Echidna uniform.
]

Considering a style change, Qubit? Maybe we could do something about that hair.

[Qubit raises an eyebrow, though his smile belies any actual offense taken. He's well aware that his hair has become sort of a running gag over the years, but the fact of the matter is he likes it, and also he is a grown-ass man and will do what he wants thank you very much.]

Why fix what isn't broken? No, I'm just dropping in.

I'm not really sure what else we'd do for you, anyway. [ Some kind of giant Q? Maybe use his hair shape as a motif throughout the outfit? It's not like she knows what a qubit is, or that it isn't even a proper name. ]

I would say trade in the coat for a cape, but I have a moral obligation to fight the spread of capes wherever they may appear. You can't cure the world by infecting them with a disease.

[ If there is only one fashion crime she would ever prosecute, though. ]

[personal profile] superposition 2016-04-29 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Somehow I read that as having his hair shaped into a giant Q but at some point there's nowhere to go but Deathbulge]

Well, rest assured, they're not my style. That bad, though?

[Come to think of it, the only two people in his canon who wear capes turned out to be psychos, so...]

[ He can always get his hair cut into a mobius strip, just go all out on it. ]

Well, aside from just being ugly in so many cases, they're a bit pointless on anyone who can't fly. That's about the only context in which I see them being aesthetically significant enough to compensate for the numerous ways they can be not only terrible, but dangerous for crimefighting.

[ Even that much she's reluctant to give credit for, but people like Dave and Karen are okay despite their capes. Really, that time she had to tie one around her abdomen to keep her guts in place kind of put her off them forever. ]

Mm, fair point. Especially if it isn't tear-away... [Remember that time Survivor got literally dragged to Hell by his cape? Good times.] Although to be fair, the few people I've known to wear a cape had superstrength, so if they ran into someone who had any means to restrain them, by that point the cape was the least of their worries.
glowsferatu: thought (pic#6650765)

[personal profile] glowsferatu 2016-05-03 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ But did he live through it? ]

I suppose I've known more varied types, then. I've probably known more who didn't have super-strength than did. And at least one who wore it did so as an expression of a terrifying superiority complex.
superposition: (So what difference does it make?)

[personal profile] superposition 2016-05-03 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, you could even say he survived. You oughta see what the other guy was wearing, though. And uh. yeah Qubit frowns a bit.]

That is... not altogether inaccurate on my end, either, now you mention it. [Cary and Tony had a distressing amount in common, and none of it was the good things.] Maybe there's even a pattern there.

I'm reluctant to make too strong a generalization. While my distaste comes from their use by the worst sort of people, I've also known good people to wear them.

Have you met Power Girl?

[ Does he realize she's their boss? ]
superposition: ((what are we talking about?))

[personal profile] superposition 2016-05-06 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[He straightens, folds his arms over his chest.] A handful of times. Wouldn't say we're well-acquainted.

[He has, of course, been keeping an eye on her public activities. And having the Modeuses keep an eye on them as well. Power Girl doesn't remind him of the Plutonian in the same gut-wrenching way that Superman did, but she's his cousin (she says) and apparently has the same powers. On the one hand, it's for her own good - if Modeus did turn up, she'd very likely be one of his targets - but more generally, it's for the good of everyone.

That said, he's stopped short of actively spying on her. She's got a secret identity, he's sure of that much, but he's made no real attempt to find out what it is. Losing "Dan Hartigan" had been the beginning of the end for Tony, he doesn't want to risk the same happening here.

So yeah, he has no idea he works for her.]

[personal profile] glowsferatu 2016-05-09 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ Kanaya is among a handful who know her identity, and it probably had a fair amount to do with her decision to join Starrware. She's never spared a single thought to how dangerous she could be, outside of her concerns about how dangerous imPorts in general could be. ]

She's one of the good ones, I trust her more than I would most of them, even despite her cape. At least hers isn't quite floor length, it has a nice asymmetrical cut to it.

[personal profile] superposition 2016-05-09 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You've known her a while, then? I know you were both at Earth-Alpha, but I didn't want to assume.

[Earth-α veterans - those who survived the destruction of the City - may be rare birds two years later, but still...]
glowsferatu: glow, wait (Who Wants To See Things Blinding White)

[personal profile] glowsferatu 2016-05-11 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, Earth-Alpha?

[ When she thinks alpha Earth, it has a totally different connotation. She's never even been to that Earth, though she knows she'll die in the session it started. ]
superposition: ((william hartnell eat your heart out))

[personal profile] superposition 2016-05-11 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, uh - the universe where you lived just prior to this one, I mean. I've taken to calling that one Earth-Alpha and this one Earth-Beta, for lack of a better name.

[He picked up that term from Thomas' big report like three days after he got here, and might have forgotten that he is literally the only person who calls it that.

(His own world, for the record, he's been calling Earth-♇, and the one with the Kaiju is Earth-K.)]
glowsferatu: smile, thought (pic#6878154)

[personal profile] glowsferatu 2016-05-12 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'd usually just call it The City, since the one metropolis contained the whole of the imPort population. We actually encountered enough other imPort worlds while there that this might qualify as Earth-Zeta, anyway, if we follow that designation.

[ Though she's only vaguely spoken about one of them since coming to this world, and that was over two years ago. Though New Vesuvius has always weighed somewhat in her mind, as the only one of them that had a distinct Porter she interacted with. ]
superposition: ((the implications))

[personal profile] superposition 2016-05-13 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Did it really not have another name? I can't imagine the folks who built it just called it "City," that'd be like naming a child "Child."

[But hey, parallel universes with imPorts? That's new information (that is actually relevant).] Really. So interdimensional travel wasn't as restricted there, was it?
glowsferatu: smile (pic#6287945)

[personal profile] glowsferatu 2016-05-13 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There were many jokes made about it, but that was its name, all the same. And people think Heropa is bad, at least its a name!

[ She shrugs, though she isn't quite sure where the etymology of Heropa is from, if it was some attempt at a pun, or whether it could be considered funny. She has theories, though. ]

And no, interdimensional travel was much the same as it was here. But, in the final year, Lachesis sent us to other Earths for brief stays, in some attempt to derail the plans of our enemies.

We didn't ultimately succeed, obviously.
superposition: (I'm so sick and tired)

[personal profile] superposition 2016-05-16 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Now that he thinks of it, he's unclear on the how and why of Earth-α's destruction. That'd be good information to have, but... he really wants more details on Power Girl, first.]

Ah. [sympathetic-] I'm sorry. That can't have been easy on anyone.

Power Girl was around for that, too, though, wasn't she? If even she couldn't stop it...

[A) it must have been incredibly serious, B) or maybe she was de-powered or otherwise incapacitated, which is also serious, and C) it doubly can't have been easy on her. Imagine, hearing all the screams of a dying world, unable to save them... that's the kind of thing that scars people for life, human or no.]

[personal profile] glowsferatu 2016-05-18 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
She arrived later in the planet's cycle. I think she was only present for our final daytrip. [ They were generally closer to a week long, but they never felt more than temporary, so it always seemed like a legitimate enough term. ]

It isn't the first world she's lost, though. Which is the same for us both. [ If even she couldn't stop it, though? That's an odd statement to make. ] But you have to remember, Lachesis has bound gods many times over, and she was the lesser to Atropos.

No one could have done anything to stop it.
superposition: (Flying bullet for you)

[personal profile] superposition 2016-05-25 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mm. He won't argue the point, but Qubit doesn't believe in hopeless situations. Off the top of his head, he can already name one entity that could stop Atropos - that being Atropos herself. But no imPort had that kind of power, or they'd have been able to overcome Lachesis. So she's probably correct, he reluctantly has to admit. He nods, frowning. After a few seconds, though:]

... You said you've both lost other worlds?
glowsferatu: sad, rude (I Cant Help The Way I Feel)

[personal profile] glowsferatu 2016-06-15 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Kanaya's all too familiar with hopeless situations, she's lived through too many of them to count already. Even now that she's started to open herself up to hope again, she hasn't forgotten that. It's a subject she's still very cautious towards. ]

It's something we have in common, that we were orphaned by a dying homeworld. And then, other Earths after.

I know the broader strokes better than the specifics, and it probably isn't my story to tell, anyway. Perhaps you might ask her directly.
