[He knew what those were, in theory, from stories and things, although he'd never actually interacted with one at home.]

Are you saying that someone would have to be born non-human to count?

Well, alright, let's talk about vampires! I'm especially well versed in the subject.

[ She gives him a grin to shoe off her fangs, not a terribly subtle hint. ]

I consider vampirism a condition, not a species. I'm no less of a troll for being a vampire, perhaps more so now that I'm the only troll here. But our similar condition doesn't give me a true biological affinity with vampires born of humans, even if I have more in common with them than other humans.

I can't say unilaterally that no one born human could become something else. But I don't think vampirism is how.

Uh huh.

[That... made sense. He was pretty skeptical about the idea of fairy vampires at home, but here— well, nothing seemed to be impossible. Like a troll vampire... not that he'd ever seen a depiction of a troll that looked like Kanaya, anyways.]

Well, you probably know more than I do.

Oh, you know, some things just aren't as easy to speak to until you find yourself sucking blood.

[ Not that some people aren't going to try anyway. She's met so many people who take evil for granted from any vampire, that Leon doesn't seem to is to his credit. ]

[He doesn't know enough about vampires to be particularly prejudiced. He didn't really take any of those stories all that seriously after all, and it wasn't like people didn't make up malicious stories about fairies too. He knew all about those. But then again, Kanaya didn't know he was a fairy.

He snorts.]

Right... you make sucking blood sound so casual.

[ She shrugs. She's always been pretty open about her condition, in some hope it might help normalize it. Of all the things someone might find her weird for, she'd rather it be something she can control. ]

Well, I've been doing it for years, I was still thirteen when I first awakened. To treat it as some ugly thing that must be kept discreetly swept under the rug, that does me no favors, and it does no one who regularly deals with me any favors, either.

I think transparency is a more prudent approach to the whole matter.

[He snorts. It probably was sort of what he meant, if he was being honest with himself.]

You're probably right about that.

I just think that it's better to get it out in the open, than let them discover in the worst case scenario, like if circumstances emerge where I have my teeth sunk in someone.

[ Plus, hey, if she's really delicate with it, maybe she could see about a donation to the cause. Then hope no one walks in on her with her teeth sunk in them. ]

[He snorts. He can't help it, really.]

That would be a little awkward no matter what, probably.

[He imagined so, anyways. It didn't matter whether you were aware of it or not, it was one thing to actually see it taking place. He wasn't really sure he wanted to see it either.]

Well, no. [her lips curl, imagining the scene. ] You aren't wrong, it's sure to be awkward anyway. Like walking in on your roommate making out with their partner.

[ Especially since many times she directly feeds from anyone is in that context, which only reminds her how long it's been since she's actually bitten anyone. ]

But awkwardness is preferable to sheer terror.

[He just ... frowns a little.]

That's true, it is. If you can't avoid it, I'd rather that over someone being afraid of me ... if I was a vampire, or something like that.

[He fiddles with the hem of his hat a little.]

Or something like that.

[ She repeats it with a cocked brow, the statement a little curious. She figures it's just nervousness, which she proceeds to attribute to something else entirely. ]

Sorry if all the vampire talk is making you uncomfortable. Even if I like being honest about it, that doesn't mean it won't take some getting used to for others.

[He really wasn't anything like a vampire, after all.]

It's better to be honest about those kinds of things.

[Except he wasn't being honest right now?? But whatever, it's not like being a fairy meant that he had any particular urges, or like it impacted literally anyone else.]

[ She nods, and then takes a glance at her watch. She should probably get back to her booth. ]

Anyway, I hope the panel gave you something to think about for the future. Perhaps we'll speak again some time!

[ Ah, wait. She extends her hand. ]

[He extends his own to shake Kanaya's.]
