[ A gentleman with shoulder-length hair could be found among the refreshments -- the cane in his hand might belie a seeming younger age. He doesn't appear to need it so much as prefer to walk with it in hand, but the rest of him says well-to-do: a finely pressed suit, nice shoes, the glimmer of a fine moonstone ring on one finger, etc. He may have been spotted browsing but never seeming to stay long at the panels. His uncertainty speaks to his identity well enough: a new arrival, but not one keen on announcing as much. ]

[ Francis is in his three piece suit - the one he'd come in. He had been attending a formal unveiling when he was brought here, so they're technically well made, black with a white shirt.

He does have others, equally well made, but this he tends to bring out for ImPort functions and it's likely the one that was featured in any fan art to be found of him.

Francis does notice him: it's a function of his job to keep an eye on new imPorts and he's a curious man besides.

When it's a good time he buys himself a Strawberry Francis, quietly amused that they replaced 'Fool' with his name and faces him with a smile. ]

[ Gold is by nature a carefully polite person unless his mood has taken him so low as to snap at the slightest bother. Whatever his thoughts have been since his arrival, they are his to keep; whatever brought him here knows too much already. As such, while not quick to smile, he is gentle enough to respond when directly spoken to -- the odd nod or acknowledging greeting. Beyond that, direct questions were few, and he asked none unless he was certain he could not find an answer himself.

He didn't take the stranger for anyone connected with those responsible for placing him, no one selling anything directly in front of him, but that question was an opening for more. He would stay a while and see what doors opened up. ]

I tend to be consistent company. [ A sharp retort. ] But beyond the literal sense, I am...diverted. Yes, I think that word works better.

[ 'Consistent company'. Francis is tempted to laugh. The grumpy correction certainly doesn't help. But he stays the course like a good English politician. ]

Ah, may I help return you to your preferred path? [ Who doesn't enjoy a play on words? ]

For what avenues are available, I think I've come to accept the one I'm on. [ For the time being. Though with a cautious wit, his voice is gentle, the careful turns of a Scottish accent smoothing some of the rougher edges. ] I meant only to say this is as acceptable a distraction as one can hope to find in this place, I'm sure.

[ "You're incredibly boring." is rude to say, so he puts that aside for the moment. Honestly, if you can't make your own distractions, you deserve to be grumpy. But he remembers his role. ]

That depends entirely on what flavours you prefer your distraction.

'Enlightening' would lift my spirits considerably. [ Glancing up, around. ] This place moves at quite a different speed from what I am used to.

[ He doesn't speculate the speed he's used to. ] Well, I shall be delighted.

[ He offers his hand. ] Gold. Craftsman. [ Artisanal broom maker, his ancient, preternatural ass. ] What knowledge do you have of the means used to bring the people here?

[ He takes it in a politician's handshake. ] The Porter. Brings people, apparently randomly, to this world and 'gifts' us with powers. It's... possessed, it would seem, by an entity that is uncommunicative at best and tended to by the government.

[ He prefers a politician's handshake, really. Intent but impersonal. He doesn't much care for anyone that touches him too long anymore. ]

Fascinating. And is it the machine or the entity that opens the way?

[ Nothing said of the faces he's seen, names he's heard or read since coming out here. ]

Open to debate. Perhaps the unique mixture of both.

I've heard of neither such things before, as far as I know. Always interesting.

[ Perhaps a little too telling, plus that odd glance at nothing, as though the words "I can work with that" are waiting on his lips to be spoken. His eye wanders over the refreshments -- the ones with names, which still perplexes him. How will he feel if his name ever appears here? ]

You must have been here a while, to have the position you do.

Of course. [ But interesting doesn't get the job done, so to speak. ] Actually, I received the nomination in my first month here. Though, I have been here since last year, which I gather is about average, for an imPort.

Yes, indeed. [ Possibly he would have been more effusive if Gold was more sharing, but as he wasn't, nor was Francis ]. Some.
