[ Bruce arches his eyebrows and nods slowly as if in understanding, but he's still smiling through all of it, evidently not the least bit discouraged by this piece of information. ]

For what it's worth, I like the tall one with the frills. [ Fair enough, he might not be his favorite, but it's impossible for Bruce to say there's even a Doctor he doesn't like. ] I like all of them, actually. I'm sure it'll be no different with you.

[ Now let's pretend he said that in a completely normal and not at all fanboyish and possibly slightly creepy way. ]

[ 'I like all of them actually.' Waaaaait a moment. On statements that make the Doctor a bit suspicious, that's one of them, especially because he knows some of his incarnations (War & Long Scarf) weren't as fond of Earth as others (Converse and Bowtie). ]

...you're not UNIT, are you?

[ He's American, so probably not...but the Doctor just secretly kind of hopes he is. He misses UNIT terribly, ranging from the Brig to Kate (though, of course, he's never going to tell anyone that). ]

[ Oh, great Bruce. Good job, that's just the thing to say to the guy, you really are a genius. He cringes inwardly, his expression still somewhat mild, even if there's a hint of confusion and surprise at the question. ]

What? Oh. Oh, no, not... nothing like that, no. Sorry.

[ Great, now how is he going to explain knowing them all? Oh screw it, may as well lie his way out of this one. ]

Well, I did some consultant work for them, a couple of times. Nothing major or anything. I'm a nuclear physicist, so sometimes that came in handy for them, I guess.

[ Did he just insert himself into this canon, yes he did. Apparently now he smashes his way through fourth walls too, great. ]

[ The Doctor can't help but perk up a little bit, giving Bruce a wide smile. Nuclear physicist! How interesting! He is 100% believing Bruce's lie for the moment, great job buddy. ]

Considering how many times we've had to deal with nuclear whatever in the 1970s, I can see that! Here's hoping you helped keep everybody in line—I imagine Kate needs a hand every now and then.

I just helped a little bit, really. I don't know that much about the organization overall. They're kind of secretive anyway, so...

[ Which is the truth, kind of, so he's safe on that regard. He thinks. It shouldn't be too big of a problem if he can't remember some small detail. God, Bruce, you're so getting in way over your head here, but play it cool. ]

But you're... well, everyone there knows about you. Kind of... you know. The Doctor. Wow. [ The 'wow' is 100% genuine, for the record. ]

Careful, [ the Doctor remarks, with a small little smile. ] I'd hate to destroy that image of me you've built up.

[ Because he KNOWS that Bruce has built up some form of an image and he KNOWS that the cracks are going to start showing one way or the other. ]

[ Except Bruce knows more than the Doctor realizes, probably. His image of him includes a lot of less good things, slightly bad things, and some pretty terrible things too. That hardly stops him from admiring him, even if he was just a fictional character until a short while ago.

Everybody's flawed like that, Bruce knows that better than anyone. It hardly changes anything. ]

Right. I wouldn't worry much about it. I'm not so delusional as to think anyone's perfect.

[ He can't help but raise an eyebrow. Well! Bruce you are just rising further and further up in his book, the fact that there's less of a pedestal that he's going to break (or that Bruce knows the pedestal's going to break at some point) is refreshing. ]

It's less of me being perfect and more of me being grumpy, [ the Doctor teases, not one to let this be too serious for too long. ] I'm a bit of a grouch.

And you think that's enough for me to not like you or get disappointed?

[ An eyebrow raise because really, he was around for those first reincarnations. Come on. ]

It probably works for this look you have going on. With the... eyebrows and everything. [ Vague gesturing at his own face, pulling an amused expression. ]

[ And the Doctor can't help but griiiiiin. ]

It's a good look, isn't it? These eyebrows are so cross.

Yes, absolutely. I'm sure it works in your favor sometimes.

[ Looks like this Doctor got a trait he appreciates, that's nice. ]

Sorry, I never introduced myself. I'm Dr. Bruce Banner. [ He'd offer a hand but he's not sure if this reincarnation is the handshaking type, so. ] Just Bruce is fine.
