It's not necessarily about mercy, Tetsuo. It just wouldn't be effective. I convinced Mr. Edgeworth because I didn't think being in prison would help you, or make you less likely to attack anyone. So there's no reason to put you through that.

Killing Crane if it wouldn't accomplish anything is pointless.

[The worst kind of logic is the kind that makes sense even through Tetsuo's anger. It wouldn't have worked until that extreme example caught his full attention, forcing him to really listen instead of reflexively argue.

He can't shake that need for revenge against someone he's never met. What Crane did to him was unforgivable and terrifying. The thing he started broke everything down into a chain that ended...]

What if it DID accomplish something?

That's more complicated.

[ Minato sounds highly reluctant to say anything at all (augh, ethics) but he does drag himself to some kind of clear statement, because ambiguity and Tetsuo are not friends. ]

If it's in self-defense or because they're hurting someone and won't stop, then it can be okay to kill someone. But it's not something that should happen because you feel badly.

[Tetsuo's experienced Minato's way of viewing the world, and it's an alien, unsettling thing. While being there was enough to make him quit questioning Minato's motives towards him, it's not enough to make him understand what he saw in there.

I don't usually have any personally... But if there's someone bothering one of my friends or teammates, I try to help.

If it was personal, you'd get it... You can't choose one day that you don't want to have enemies anymore. So, befriending someone like Amada, or being in that house at all... It isn't supposed to work like that.

[he rubs at his head, trying to think how to phrase this.]

That doesn't make sense. If your feelings change, the way you act with someone should change, too.
