BETTY ROSS

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-04-24 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Continued from HERE. IMAGINE WHAT POWERS PACO MIGHT HAVE THOUGH ...or don't. the blood beetle thing sounds too sad :c]

[Is porting around really that easy? That's such a solid advantage to registering, at least. Also, the idea of jumping around from city to city visiting friends: adorable. A solid advantage for tech in this universe.

Teasing,]
Is Heropa your favourite, or do you just not want to move?
khajidont: (Jaime - Mild)

no blood beetle! just magic sticks!!

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-04-24 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He laughs.] Okay, probably the second one. Florida's not really anyone's favourite place in the world, but that's where I've been since I got here, so... it's home.

[The weather kind of sucks, though. He misses the dry heat of home, and it's been replaced with a heat that's just a little more oppressive, more unpleasantly damp.]

It's cozier than the other cities, though. We don't get hassled as much.
catalysmic: (you think so)

paco would rock magic sticks. i saw that jaime's hot girlfriend is around too. *eyebrow waggle*

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-04-26 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Florida weather may not be the most fun now, but maybe in another half-year, it'll appeal more. Betty's getting older, and winters in Virginia are less and less charming. It's still home, though, even alternate-universe Virginia.]

Really? Why is that? This isn't the one... the original imPort city, is it?

[That was in Florida, though, wasn't it? Now she's confused.]
khajidont: (Default)

INDEED SHE IS bein magical all over the place

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-04-26 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think it is. I mean... Heropa. But it's also a suburb, so you don't have as many people on the street hassling you, y'know? Just a lot of soccer moms.

[Which isn't a terrible thing. Jaime's always gotten along with soccer moms.]
catalysmic: (no no but listen)

and now a pack of teen titans esp with the new arrivals...

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-04-27 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you get hassled by soccer moms often? [What a nice kid. Seriously, come visit.]

I mean, if you live in imPort housing, your neighbors must know you're one, right?
khajidont: (Jaime - idek I'm running out of words)

yesss which is DELIGHTFUL

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-04 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well... all my neighbours are imPorts, so that makes things a little easier. And I get a surprising amount of soccer mom in my life. A kid I'm close to is on his team, so I go to all his games.

[He cups his hand around his mouth, as if telling a secret.]

Janice is really mean to the coach, 'cause she wants Alexander to be put on the field more often, but everyone forgives her 'cause she always brings all the snacks.

[He's acting like he's joking, but sadly, he now knows the politics of elementary school soccer moms.

Janice is a bitch.]
catalysmic: (revision)

i can't believe it's been a month already

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-05 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[The names don't mean anything to her - he could be inventing them for humorous effect - but she laughs anyway. She's not going to remember this gossip, you're safe Jaime.]

It's a solid tactic. A kid you're close to? [, she prompts instead.]
khajidont: (Default)

god I KNOW... TIME MOVES 2 FAST 4 ME

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-06 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah -- Ken. He's another imPort here -- my roomie's technically his guardian, but I got a feeling I'm a little more strict than him.

[He's such a buzzkill. Ken, bundle up before you go marching against an army. Ken, don't spar with the scary clown. Ken, step away from the homicidal telepath.]

He's twelve, and about this big, [he says, waving his hand in mid-air.] Totally tearing up the soccer field too. I'm not a bad coach!

[Or he chose to train a kid who's already in peak physical condition. Little column A, little column B.]
catalysmic: (regards)

actual soccer mom jaime reyes

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-07 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Those all seem like very reasonable things to demand of small children, however superpowered.]

You weren't kidding about Janice, huh? Your Ken sounds like a great kid, but I didn't realize imPortes could be that young.

[What is continuity? We just don't know.]
khajidont: Made by me (Jaime - Threw up in the bugsuit again)

it's true... he has morphed into his True Self

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-09 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
He is a great kid!

[Don't get distracted, buddy.]

But yeah, they can come in here pretty young. I haven't met any babies yet, and I'm pretty sure the youngest are usually around twelve... but even that's kind of a stupid age to be grabbing people at, right? It's not like they give anyone guardians here either. They even give them jobs.

[He makes a dismissive sound in the back of his throat, because this of all things is the one thing he'll never get used to. If he got brought here as a twelve year old, he probably wouldn't stop crying for his parents for the better part of a few months, let alone manage to take care of himself.]
catalysmic: (observation)

unlocked all the coaching skills, maxing out the parent points, SPEAKING OF PARENTS

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-10 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Haha, that was some restraint.]

That's definitely a stupid age to be grabbing anyone. What's an enhanced child going to do for them? [She'd be aboard the crying boat, although it's been way too long ago for her to really relate to that side of things; she's mostly disgusted by the incompetence of her fellow adults as someone who spends a lot of time with clueless young people.]

But you mentioned your roommate was Ken's guardian, didn't you? So there's an unofficial system in place?
khajidont: (Jaime - idek I'm running out of words)

he had to learn how to BE the parent before he got them...!

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-10 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, not really. My roomie knew Ken back home, and he needed someone to sign some field trip forms, so they figured it was more convenient for Minato to just become his guardian. He doesn't even live in the same city as we do, so it's not like he's the guy taking care of him.

[Jaime shrugs, smile a little sheepish.]

Most people just go for legal emancipation instead.
catalysmic: (bus error)

everything about this wants to be a soviet russia joke.

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-11 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
But then... who takes care of him? Or the others? There can't really be no system in place here.

[This is actually Terrible.]
khajidont: (Jaime - Aw come on)

russia jokes in mom are always appropriate

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-12 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
I meet with him a few times a week, and so does Minato. And his housemates look after him too, but not because they were told to -- because they want to. Look, imPort kids are usually kind of...

[He grimaces, shrugging.]

They don't like being bossed around. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a system in place, but I'm not sure any normal person would be able to take most of them in.
catalysmic: (midtown)

in mom, your parents... arrive after you? something like that.

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-13 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Because of their powers? Or the sorts of children the Porter tends to pick?

[It's good to know the imPort community (or the part of it Jaime has mentioned) is responsible and decent and impactful, but it's still... hard to picture a kid that independent. Bucky Barnes had been written as a little kid in the comics, but that was fiction, and not fiction like flying cars. ]
khajidont: (Jaime - sheepish)

I got nothin, I GOTTA WORK ON MY RUSSIA JOKES

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-14 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Because of the kinds of kids they bring in. Usually they've been through a lot. A lot of them are better off here than they ever were at home, too. Of all the kids I've met... most of them didn't live with any guardian at home either. [It's a little sad. It makes Jaime sad, anyway; he had a great childhood, and wishes he could say the same for everyone else.]

That's the case with, like, everyone here though. Nine times out of ten? The people you meet will have had pretty tough lives.
catalysmic: (observation)

don't worry, there's no need to... russia...

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-14 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Considering and discarding the obvious personal question.]

It would just set my mind at ease if it was more of a case of opt-out than opt-in, you know? You've been here a bit - any idea about where I should start if I want to make that happen?
Edited (random capitals + de-wording.) 2016-05-14 01:58 (UTC)
khajidont: Made by me (Jaime - Threw up in the bugsuit again)

you got so close

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-14 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
You probably won't be the most popular person for bringing it up, y'know. Someone tried to start up a team here and wouldn't let anyone below the age of sixteen join, and... [He whistles.] Not pretty.

[Not that it had mattered to Jaime; he was above the age limit, and besides, he wasn't interested in joining.]

But if you really wanted to do it? You'd probably do best going through one of the imPort Ambassadors.
catalysmic: (how long)

i just couldn't, um, land(war) it.

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-16 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'll see. Thank you. [Since when are sixteen-year-olds deciding things? Since... they're setting themselves up to fight and get hurt and potentially die for civilians, maybe. She's a little pensive now, and quiet, still mulling this over.]
khajidont: (Jaime - idek I'm running out of words)

it's okay. this whole time I've just been stalin for time EYYYYY

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-16 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Jaime offers her a little smile.] Maybe get used to the way things work here first, and work on changing the world second? I know this isn't exactly normal for any of us. I mean, in most worlds, superheroes don't even exist.
catalysmic: (flat)

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-16 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[He is probably right. She'll at least consider that, especially considering the source, thank you Jaime. ;;;] Yeah... yeah. That makes sense. [She... visibly tables the whole child-soldier thing.]

I would have thought... most of them would have them. Didn't yours?
khajidont: (Jaime - cut your hair young man)

[personal profile] khajidont 2016-05-17 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
So yours does too!

[He looks fairly delighted by that fact. Go Team Superheroes!]

My world has tons! But, like, 90% of the people I talk to are like, those just exist in comic books, but where I'm from, superheroes have been around my whole life. It's really, really weird.

[Then again, people here come from worlds that he thinks sound pretty fantastical too.]

What superheroes does your world have? Maybe I'll recognize a couple of the names.
catalysmic: (revision)

[personal profile] catalysmic 2016-05-18 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
[It's like imagining a world that's just as advanced as hers, but astronauts are imaginary. Engineering beyond the limits of what a single body can do seems like such a basic thing; why wouldn't there be at least some success in the field of human enhancement? If not superheroes, at least super-professionals - soldiers, spies, secretaries, students... Life inspires art inspires life.]

That is really weird. Maybe they just don't know about them? Or their worlds are extremely peaceful. [In which case she feels sorry for them, coming here.]

Mine doesn't have tons but they've existed for as long as the technology has. Our most iconic superhero is definitely Captain America, and Iron Man is a big name back home too.

[Maybe Jaime is from Megan and Santo's world of extraordinary natural and unnatural mutations.]
