Get out your microscopes
WHO: Kang and Newt
WHERE: Newt's lab
WHEN: Some time back in January
WHAT: Beginning research on nanites and neuroregeneration, Newt getting distracted by xenobiology
WARNINGS: Some language, blood (in a medical/scientific setting), uncomfortable questions?
Both of them had finally found time in their busy schedules to meet. Kang still wasn't sure if the improvements in his hand were all in his head, and he still didn't know quite what to think of Newt. The human was excitable, almost like a mix between a gnome and a kender, and he'd never had much love for either, though the former were at least somewhat useful at times (when they weren't blowing things up).
But, he'd already accepted the offer and all he could do was hope for the best, and that he wouldn't be poked and prodded too much.
He squared his shoulders and entered the lab, careful not to touch anything lying around.
"Dr. Geiszler?"

"Dr. Geiszler?"

"Dude! You're right on time. Hermann's gone for the day, so we've got the place all to ourselves." And he couldn't help circling Kang, checking him out. Wow. Yeah, bipedal reptilian sentient being who was totally going to let Newt do a little poking and prodding scientifically. Oh man, oh man! He really wanted to get some Draconian cells under a microscope like yesterday and he really needed more info on their culture, but that was totally for another time. Deep breath. Kang was so cool. How tall was he? Would he consent to a full-body x-ray? How many teeth did he have? How thick was his hide? Did he have a nictitating membrane? Newt had no idea where to start--everywhere, all at once.
Right. The nanites and the hand.
Newt remembered his manners belatedly and held out his own hand for an enthusiastic handshake. "Hi! Call me 'Newt.'"

When the initial inspection is over, he returns the gesture, taking Newt's hand in his own scarred one and being careful of the claws.
"Newt. Alright."

But...wow. Just. Kang is really awe inspiring.
"Right! So. Okay! Have a seat!" He spins around to wheel over a desk chair and skids it to a halt just shy of Kang. Then brings over a high stool, unsure if sitting with wings would be more difficult with a chair back. Ah! More things to ask about--holy shit. So many things he takes for granted. Lastly, he retrieves his recorder, turns it on, and grabs a clipboard for notes. "So where do you want to begin. Where SHOULD we begin? Tell me about your hand, about the injury, and how the nanites have been doing so far. What did you first notice that told you it was healing?" The barrage of questions begins.

"It's difficult to explain how and why I injured my hand without telling you a bit of my kind's history. On my world, magic is very real, as are gods, and it was magic that created us by the bidding of one of said gods. We were to be her shock troops in her latest attempt of world domination."

That story of being created by the god to serve as troops was eerily Kaiju and Precursor-like and Newt paused in his scribbling uneasily.
"Annnnd? So it's a battle wound? Did you, uh, serve her? Or did you guys rebel?"

A pause. "We gained a very nasty reputation. I don't deny any of it, and I don't claim to be what most humans consider good. Many of us turned to mercenary work and banditry after the war; I chose instead to take my regiment into the mountains. We shared a valley with a village of hill dwarves in relative peace for nearly thirty years, raiding back and forth in a sort of game. At the time, we believed we had no chance of a real future, without females having ever been created to keep better control of us."
