[Mexico City had been amazing so far. Sure the car trip and plane ride had been kind of long and hot and everything had smelled weirdly of Fritos? But now they were all settled in and it was time to explore.

Luckily, Dipper had done extensive research. He had a bullet-pointed list. With subheadings. Dipper Pines was ready for anything.

The Island of the Dolls felt like a good first choice. Mabel would get to see the canals and a floating garden! Dipper would get to look for ghosts and maybe start off his MeTube channel! Ford gets to take apart the TV to make ghosthunting equipment! It's pretty much perfect.]

Okay okay, did you do all the reading I gave you? There's a lot to see, so we have to be efficient! Obviously there are like, some must-see sites, but there are some other less well-known dolls that we should take a look at, too.

Yeah! Yep definitely did the reading.

[She did not do the reading. Mabel is not here to read stuff, Mabel is here because gardens are pretty and canals are cool and Dipper needs his camerawoman. Plus there are dolls involved? Which-- okay if they're actually haunted then there's no way this is going to go well, but she's always been a stuffed animal girl anyway. If she develops a complex about dolls it's not like they'll have a ton of stuff to clean out of her room.]

Since we're being efficient does that mean we're not gonna hide and wait until it gets dark to record everything? 'Cause the camera on this isn't as good as the one we have at home. Plus I don't think it'd survive an exorcism! The plastic case is all loose and stuff.

THE PLANE and possibly more misadventures

[ALRIGHT. Edgeworth had his laptop and his communicator. He had a wallet cash and a knapsack of clothes. And most importantly, the twins were safe and sound. Now that Thing #1 and Thing #2 were united with their... uncle (that old man was their uncle, right?), his job was done.

Or at least that's what he thought, until he found himself squished right between them. Right between them, on a long, crowded flight to another country.

...maybe he should have taken his chances with the Soviets...]

[Throughout the plane ride, Dipper keeps himself busy with his frankly absurd number of books. When the flight gets rough, he starts looking a little green and resolutely looks out the window until it's over. It feels kind of weird to sit beside Edgeworth and not say anything for however many hours they're going to be trapped on the plane, so he feels it's polite to at least try to start up a conversation.]

So, uh... do you think Maya and Ken are going to be okay?

[That is not small talk, Dipper.]

[Such a long flight. A long, long flight, with Mabel sitting right next to him in the aisle seat. For the first ten minutes she keeps herself occupied by chatting up the person across from her, the flight attendant, and the other flight attendant doing the safety demonstration. New pen pals obtained! And then she turns her attention to her seat buddy.]

Can you speak Spanish? Do you know what you're gonna see when you get there, 'cause Dipper's guide book says it's not by a beach but like all he talks about is libraries and there's gotta be more to do than see libraries--

[It's like she doesn't even realize this is an evacuation or something.]

[Did Wash make the right choice bailing when the seminar started to look even fishier? Maybe, maybe not. But what he knows is: his immediate team is all okay now. That's worth it. Fuck the rest of 'em.

But trouble still exists outside of the American borders. Wash did promise Mabel to see how much their aim had improved in exchange for that Valentine. Now seems as good a time as ever, with nothing but free time and crammed into the same dorms. So here he is, knocking at their door. Even took off his armor for the occasion.]

[The door opens a crack and two pairs of eyes peer out, before the door is fully flung open. The younger Pines are very good at security.]

Wash! Hey, man!

--You are Wash, right?

[Oh god are they already getting solicitors, they just got here!]

Whatever it is, we probably don't want it. Unless it's really good, in which case maybe. ...Make it quick.

[The younger Pines are just the best at security. At least Mabel recognizes Wash right off the bat without his helmet.]

Wash! Hi Wash! You're staying here too?! That's awesome! Do you know any Spanish?!

[Whenever Wash does make it in the apartment, it's not long before he's being handed something that looks like it could be... maybe some sort of casing? It's hard to tell. Unfortunately, nothing else on the counter Ford's repurposed as a work bench looks any easier to identify.]

Hold this. I need both hands to finish wiring the interior.

February 18, the apartments

[After enduring the commotion that had been coming from the apartment next door for a few hours, Alison had finally had enough. What everyone needed after their "escape" to Mexico was some relative peace and quiet! Was that so much to ask?! Not that any she has any qualms about asking - no, demanding! - that their neighbours respect that need. Marching over in her slippers and housecoat, her trusty pepper spray in her pocket, Alison knocked angrily on the door.]

Hello? Excuse me! Some people are actually trying to get some sleep here!

[An old, strangely familiar face opens the door. He seems entirely unfazed by both her anger and whatever nonsense is going on behind him.]

Yeah, good luck with that. They don't even cut it out when I do that, and I live here.

Mabel and Pacifica's Excellent Adventure

[Pacifica had spent more time than she wanted to admit looking through the travel brochures for Mexico City after they had arrived. She had never been to Mexico before (she had never been a lot of places before) and even if the circumstances were awful, they should take advantage, right? Which meant seeing things.]

[The Natural History Museum had seemed like a good idea? She'd basically figured she'd be going on her own though, but when she'd suggested it, Mabel had actually agreed to come along! Which was why the two of them were standing in front of a display of large, oddly shaped rocks that contained a few bits of bone that were supposed to be from a dinosaur. They had been part of a tour group but had wandered off about ten seconds after the guide had started talking. Oops.]

I thought this would be more interesting.

[She conceded after a minute or so of silence.]

[Mabel had agreed to come along mostly because Dipper and Ford were going really hard with the nerd things and Stan was out making local friends of s suspicious nature. And there's only so many times a person can go to the pool or bother the other people living in the apartment complex, really, before even a museum starts to sound appealing.

So here she, standing next to Pacifica and turning her head from one side to the other while trying to figure out what the big deal about the rocks was.]

Yeah... I thought there'd be, you know, giant dinosaurs preserved in amber or something! Or at least a giant skeleton. Do you think they keep all that in the back or something?

(this is easily the best plan wendy had. tag along with the pines family for a much needed weird vacation type thing in mexico. it's a whole other country to have teenage adventures in.

but it wouldn't be fun without the twins, so wendy walks up to the two of them and






blows silly string in their faces.) Okay, dude, I get you're having fun with your nerd adventures, and I'm sure Mabel is having the time of her life listening to you and the other Mr. Pines go on about more nerd stuff. But.

(this is where she grabs a bag of spray paint.) There's an old building a few blocks down that doesn't have any graffiti on it. This is an injustice to unreadable and weirdly shaped art.

[She sneaks up on them so fast that there's barely time to chant WENDY! WENDY! WENDY! before there's silly string all up in everyone's business. Mabel's too busy giggling and trying to gather the string to throw back at Wendy in retaliation that she misses all the nerd adventure talk, but she picks up on the word art. It's her time to shine.]

So we're gonna paint all over it!? [Because graffiti isn't accurate for what she does. What she does is so much more.] Like, anything we want!?

[Oh god the silly string is in his mouth!! Dipper spends a few seconds desperately spitting before he recovers enough to understand what Wendy is saying.]

Hey, it's not nerd stuff! It's like... culture! And the ghost adventures are totally cool.

[The best (and worst) thing about the Pines is that they're never too hard to find. Between the wacky antics, pigs, glitter, shouting—it doesn't exactly take a super sleuth. All the same, it would look suspicious if they ran into Gideon right off the bat. After a couple days, just long enough for a false sense of security to settle in, he makes his move.

And by "move" I mean he's methodically making his way down the row of apartments on the Pines' floor, trying each and every doorknob.]

[The door swings open, showing Dipper Pines. He'd been expecting some kind of solicitor, but this.... this is even worse.]

Ugh.

[After getting one look at that pompadour, he immediately shuts the door again.]

[Pacifica was on her way back from somewhere, buying soda who knows, when she stepped quietly into the hallway in time to watch Gideon a bit further down trying all the knobs. Oh great.]

[She did not follow him, she just happened to be heading in that direction, but after ten feet or so she silently caught up. You didn't live with parents like hers without mastering the silent footstep trick.]

If you want people to think you aren't creepy, maybe stop doing creepy things?

[Maybe she shouldn't be answering the door when it's clearly somebody who isn't even trying to knock, but the likelihood that it's a friendly face is pretty high. The likelihood that it's a friendly face who doesn't deserve to have to meet Ford first is even higher.]

[Wow. Wow, she was so wrong. She was so so so wrong. Ugh.]

[luckily, the evacuation system is fairly well established by the time bill realizes that he should probably get the heckity hey outta dodge. even MORE luckily, all of the guards he seems to encounter are predisposed to be extra gentle with a larval human. so bill manages to breeze through and across the border, and spend the first day just scoping out where he landed.]

[boy OH BOY, is he glad that he did.]

[with the pines our of (somebody else's) harm's way and within arm's reach, bill finds it necessary to stock up. what little cash he had available IMMEDIATELY goes towards Supplies.]

[most of these, unfortunately, are some form of glue. it turns out that he's not actually TERRIBLY creative.]

[Dipper hadn't even considered that Bill might go to Mexico. It seemed more chaos demon-y to stay and cause trouble with the Russians for some reason. So he is completely unsuspecting and thus ripe for pranking.]

[Asher is apparently "all about this Mexico thing," or so he's said numerous times on the way over here. This might also be because he's had the desire to flee from anything familiar and upsetting as of late, and this change of pace is just what he needed to get himself up and and out of the dumps.]

[Dipper looks up from his nest of books, uncapped pen wobbling behind his ear.]

Dude, we're from Northern California. We know what Mexican food is like.

[ So sometime during seminar hell...Glitch is contacting these two via mental network. Having not seen or heard from them while at the seminar he's checking in with all the encryptions. ]
