[He wanted to pull away from Kel's petting and wallow in his own self doubt and anger. But the he couldn't pull away from the nice gesture she was giving him. And honestly, it's been a long time since he's been petted by some stranger who just thought he was a cute animal.

So eventually he leans against her, trying his hardest not to start crying again.]

[She stays quiet and pets him, with slightly more pressure once he leans against her.

She can feel the anger bubbling up inside her at Russia and America too. Neither of them had ASKED to be put in the middle of this war. Not even by living there intentionally. And yet....here it all was.

But all that was for later, right now she has only the ability to offer some comfort to the first person to help her on her arrival here.]

[Perry laid like that for a good while. There was still an anger surrounding Perry as well. And god he knew that if he got to see his family just once a month he could tolerate this situation, but at this point he wonders sometimes if he will ever see them again.

But at the same time, remembering his family did keep him strong during hard times, and he had to admit he did have some friends here now. Things aren't perfect and they probably will never be perfect and he's still angry at everything, but he needs to remember the good in life, no matter how tough things are.

Like Kel petting him, which was so warm and comforting that if Perry didn't force himself awake, he could probably just fall asleep right there. It didn't feel quite right to fall asleep right now though; he owed Kel something of what's going on.

So slowly he pulled out his pen and notepad to write her a note.]

If you asked me they had terrible food service there.

[Well he couldn't immediately go with the horrifying stuff that's going on.]

[She grins, lopsidedly]

Seems like the least they could do, too.


[She stopped petting him when he moved, but she goes back to resting her hand on his back, just in case]

[Perry is still leaning against Kel but, slowly, he feels himself becoming less and less tense.]

Yeah, you think if they wanted us to join their side you think they'd at least provide us with nice refreshments.

[Kel makes a noncommittal noise and just keeps light contact. From what she knew of defecting to new countries, you were either courted by that country's spies or captured as a slave. This seemed a lot more like the latter, and slaves were given just what they needed to stay alive.... Maybe.

She was suddenly very glad Perry hadn't stayed, and suddenly very worried for everyone still back in the Import cities....]

[Almost as if he was reading her mind, Perry was hit by a pang of guilt for all of those still in America. Maybe if he had stayed there he could have helped stop this whole thing.

Perry shakes his head, reminding himself that, with how affected he was starting to feel by the brainwashing, he was probably at high risk of becoming completely brainwashed.

Still, the guilt was still firmly anchored into him.

Suddenly he realized something. Maybe they could both use a distraction from this right now. After all it's not like they can even do anything right now so finding some way to not worry would do them both good, right?]

Hey, how much do you know about movies?

I...don't know anything.

[Are those like the videos posted on the comms...?]

[Perry's eyes light up a tiny bit.]

They're basically likes plays, but in a video form and you can watch them whenever you like.

Some varieties also use moving pictures so have these "plays" too. It's a pretty popular form of media here actually

[Plays in different formats, music in different genres, there is just so MUCH ALL THE TIME]

You'll probably just have to show me, then.

[That gives Perry a pause. Well he can't really just show her any movie that comes to mind since, for all he knows, he could be giving Kel a horrible first experience even if he likes the movie.]

What kind of stories do you like?

[Kel thinks on that one carefully, and when she does speak, it's a little hesitant]

Are there...stories with women fighting in them?

There are a few actually! I haven't seen a lot of them since action movies aren't my thing, but I can think of a few you might be interested in.

Well, if it's tradition then it's been thought up by older people much older than us and must be correct!

[The words are slightly sarcastic, but her tone is sincere]

[Perry gives a tiny laugh before jumping off the couch and heads towards the kitchen area, returning a few minutes later with a bowl of popcorn. He sets his laptop on the coffee table and gives Kel an expectant look, wondering if she's ready or not.]

[Uncertainly, Kel follows and gets her own chair. After a pause, she takes a piece of popcorn and tries it.]

So what's the story?

It's about a woman who disguises herself as a man to join the army, basically.

[And he searches his computer for the movie before playing it, now completely curled up on the couch.]

[Kel's eyes widen, and she leans forward, waiting for the movie to play. From now on there will be no talking, this is too important]

[Perry makes a small sound that sounds like a laugh before settling in to watch the movie, periodically looking over at Kel to evaluate her reaction.]
