WHO: Klarion and you!
WHERE: Maurtia Falls, pretty much anywhere except Heropa
WHEN: early February
WHAT: Catch-all log for some February downtime while Klarion's on probation! PM me or hit me up on plurk (
sonopants) if you'd like a starter, or feel free to make up your own!
WARNINGS: none, will edit this if anything comes up
a) Maurtia Falls - somebody please save this mugger from his bad life choices
[ The thing is, when seen from behind with the hood of his sweater pulled over his pointy hair, Klarion looks like a normal teenager. The sort of short, scrawny kid who'd probably be doomed to spend his high school career getting shoved into lockers. An easy victim, in other words, and certainly one that shouldn't be wandering the alleyways of Maurtia Falls after dark ( though not too late after dark, his curfew is still 10pm, after all!).
The mugger who has Klarion at knifepoint is starting to reconsider his choice of targets, and Klarion's are glowing with a dim yellow light as he grins. His powers are severely dampened, sure, but he's pretty sure that he can make this guy regret some life decisions anyway (or at the very least, creep him out), and who could hold it against him? This counts as self-defense, surely! ]
Really now. Are you sure this is wise?
b) Out in the snow
[ Klarion spent the last year or so in Heropa, and the Florida heat left him unprepared for an actual, legit east coast winter. The cold and the snow have totally thrown him off guard, and while he has jeans and a hoodie sweater, his buckled shoes aren't gonna do anything against the snowdrift that's blocking off the rest of the sidewalk. He glares at the snow as if it personally offends him, then turns to the nearest person wearing a pair of sturdy, tall boots. ]
You! Hold still for a moment. I want to try something!
c) Just hangin' out
[ Ok, so he may be on probation, his powers might be dampened, it might be too cold outside... but life isn't all that bad, because Klarion has a giant cup of hot chocolate, topped by a mountain of marshmallows with caramel sauce drizzled over the top, and his best furry friend is curled up around his neck like a scarf. He can be found hanging around in cafes, or just wandering the streets and admiring the snowfall while he warms his hands with the drink (and ok, maybe a little bit of magical energy when nobody's looking). ]

vidya games
He'd managed to get his hands on one of the newer systems once he'd managed to budget properly, and was swiftly becoming a pro at this weird new three-dimensional gameplay that had become the norm in the last twenty years, and was so stoked to introduce someone new to it. Everyone else was better at it than he was.
Once he invited Klarion over, he got some chips, soda, and pizza ready and straightened up the living room — Duncan's presence had been a godsend for getting Max to clean up, though he'd never admit it.
Any second now, his friend would be arriving. His friend who, admittedly, had a history of turning people into stone. Max makes a note to hopefully prevent that from happening this time. ]

No, seriously. He's standing on the front steps to Max's place, seconds away from knocking on the door, and wondering how the heck this happened. Max seemed like a nice enough kid, even if he was friendly to an almost foolhardy extent, and he had helped him out during the whole power swap fiasco, checked up on him afterwards, tried to talk him down during the even worse Pan fiasco, and...
... and at some point, Max had invited him over to play video games, and Klarion had finally relented against his unwavering friendliness. Klarion hesitates for another second, and then finally gives the door a sharp knock. If nothing else, this will be a change of routine from Maurtia Falls and probation. ]

Come on in! I'm glad you could make it. I've got it all set up!
[ Aaand he's already leading the way to the living room. ]

The slow grin is replaced by a confused look as he sniffs the air. ]
Is that... did you order pizza?
[ He follows Max in, Teekl on his heels (the cat has been here the whole time, shhh), and keeps glancing around the house, trying to take everything in at once. ]
I've never played one of these before, I may not be much competition at first.
no subject
Of course I ordered pizza! My friend needs to eat and I'm an awful cook, so I figured this would be a good compromise. I got a couple kinds, hopefully you'll like one of them. If not I'll order something else.
[ Because, you know, swear jar money. THANKS DUNCAN! ]
It's not about the competition, don't worry. I mean, things might get a little heated while we're playing, but in the end it's all about having fun. I'll go easy on you while you get used the controls.
[ He bends down in front of the TV, fiddling with the controls. ]

Klarion just sits down cross-legged in front of the TV, and lets the cat settle in his lap. He's staring at the video game console as if it's some kind of mutant cabbage; he clearly has no idea what the hell he's looking at. ]
It's kind of you to supply the food for this little venture, though I'm hardly fussy about flavours. With this much pizza, you'll have enough leftovers for weeks.
... What sort of game are we playing? [ he's eyeballing the system again, raising an eyebrow at it like it's going to bite him or something. ]
no subject
Max hands the second controller to Klarion as he gets the system going, and a catchy little jingle plays as the game starts up. Then there's a sound of revving motors. ]
It's a racing game. I figured we could start with something simple. If you've never played before, I'll show you how!

... Okay, he can do this. He once rode a giant flying bug, how hard could driving a virtual car be? ]
Surely you only need two buttons? Steering and acceleration?
no subject
This - the joystick - is for steering and stuff. And there's other buttons you can use to brake and shoot weapons at the other cars. I'm still trying to figure out how the drift works, too.
no subject
[ Ok, clearly he couldn't use regular driving as a reference anymore! ]
What sort of madness is this? And... [ he squints at the screen, raising an eyebrow in disbelief. ]
... Is that a mushroom wearing a vest?
no subject
He gets a stage loaded up, opting to start him on a one-on-one battle instead of a race. "This way, it'll let you get a handle on the controls and the weapons and stuff. Once you figured all that out, then we can try an actual race."
