welcome home feast!

WHO: OPEN MINGLE
WHERE: Xavier School Dining Hall
WHEN: January 29, 30; all day both days
WHAT: Cass and Callaghan opened up the school's dining hall for ALL imPorts, -- prisoners, diplomats, military, rescuers, even people who were uninvolved and just want the food -- to come in and recover from the ordeal with warm, free food, blankets gathered from god knows where, and each other.
WARNINGS: This should be relatively tame! But please mark your own warnings in the necessary places.

As announced here, Cass and Callaghan have opened up Xavier School to offer food and a resting place to ALL imPorts! The room is kept warm, and there's food and drinks -- non alcoholic! -- and enough space for a bunch of people to sit around and fill their stomachs. The buffet line is stocked with all sorts of food, and Cass is keeping pots of coffee ready for the people who would prefer that, too. There's no junk food, but she stress baked enough to feed a small country while everyone was gone, so there's plenty of pastries and bread to go around as well.

...Well, I'm glad I could help!

[She does seem genuinely grateful for the thanks, smiling wide and even pausing her consumption of this feast to pay more attention to Fuu.]

It's kinda hard to find him, though, right? What's up with imPorts and secret identities?
monster_san: Thoughtful look (I've been wondering)

[personal profile] monster_san 2016-02-13 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Fuu is glad to see that reaction, because she really does mean it--Maya is, well, inspirational. And she really is encouraged that there are some people here who share her desire to not kill, not even in dangerous situations.]

It does seem to be the style, to conceal your true name while doing 'heroics...' I'm not sure how much good it does when the government has us all digitally recorded.

But I have thought--if there is a Fuu Hououji here, I wouldn't like to complicate her life by turning up on the news. Maybe that's why people don't like to tell.

--Oh! You're right! I never really thought about it like that.

But I guess, technically, at least some of us have to share names with the civilians, right?
monster_san: Embarrassed/explaining/casual smile (Well it made perfect sense to ME.)

[personal profile] monster_san 2016-02-15 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
That's sure to be true as well. [well, at least for people with names like Maya Fey and Ken Amada--some of the first-time-on-Earth crowd might have to do a little legwork to find a nametwin.] There could be a Fuu Hououji--or Maya Fey--who doesn't have anything to do with us at all. I expect they would probably get unwanted calls from journalists and the like.

[or worse. or hey, maybe better, if some grateful citizen misdirects an Edible Arrangement.]

...It's still strange to think of myself as not being in the 'civilian' category anymore.

[strange and deeply uncomfortable, but her smile doesn't let on.]

[Amused, Maya nods, listening to Fuu for a moment.]

Right? I really didn't do.. anything like this, back home. It still feels pretty crazy.
monster_san: Chibi going oh dear (How very awkward)

[personal profile] monster_san 2016-02-18 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Fuu is secretly pleased to hear Maya say that; she doesn't seem like someone who ought to be fighting in a war. but then she doesn't give the impression, so far, of having been accused of murder three or four times either]

It is--being called a 'weapon,' numbered and registered, superheroes with secret identities? It's like we've been tossed into an American comic book and a sci-fi show and a spy drama, all at the same time.

But what did you do, back at home?

Oh-- um, I was a lawyer's assistant!

And a spirit medium. What about you?

[it's fine it's fine none of that's weird]
monster_san: Shock! Also got an umbrella (Good gracious heavens above!)

[personal profile] monster_san 2016-02-19 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? [At this juncture, Fuu isn't at all disinclined to believe that Maya is the real deal.] I would never have thought to hear those two things together. I'm nothing so interesting, I'm afraid--just a student.

[She won't get into the actual MAGIC KNIGHT thing here.]

Mm, you'd be surprised. I'm starting to think being a student mighta been kinda cool.
monster_san: Cheerfully holding book, no doubt a strategy guide (Now we can escape the goblin lair)

[personal profile] monster_san 2016-03-02 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's certainly interesting to catch up with everything that I've missed in the past twenty-three years. I had no idea just how ubiquitous computers were going to be!

Man, I still don't know how to use a computer! I've never had to use anything but my cellphone.
monster_san: Polite surprise! (Suddenly discovered the CLAMP multiverse)

[personal profile] monster_san 2016-03-07 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not surprised. [Fuu takes out her own and looks at it. She's still astonished that this palm-sized brick can do more than her father's top-of-the-line computer tower.] The models of the 21st century are amazing... and to think I used to think of a phone as something you only used for talking to people.

--Wait, 21st century?

You're from the past?
monster_san: Awkward smile (Smile defensively)

[personal profile] monster_san 2016-03-11 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[THE... THE PAST.......

she smiles brightly to cover it.]

Only from a couple of decades back--it was 1993 before I arrived here.

I take it that you're from this century? Or... ahead of it?
missleadingquestions: (new077)

[personal profile] missleadingquestions 2016-03-11 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, ahead! I mean, the year I left was 2019, so I keep thinking it's 2020 now instead of 2016...

[a gentle sigh.]

But that's crazy... I guess you're more used to the old computers they still have in Gumshoe's police station!
monster_san: Chibi cupping face in hand (My my)

[personal profile] monster_san 2016-03-12 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It must be difficult to write the date on papers--like when it turns to the new year, only backwards. [goodness knows she kept putting 1992 on her homework until the end of January.]

I haven't been to Mr. Gumshoe's police station, but if you mean the big, boxy monitors? Oh yes. It's hard to get used to a computer that you can barely see when you look at it from the side!
