WHO: All diplomatic imPorts that have signed up HERE.
WHERE: The capitals of Mexico, South Korea, and France. UN-attending imPorts will be placed in Davos, Switzerland.
WHEN: January 26th.
WHAT: Democracy in motion as imPorts attempt to use their skills of persuasion to convince each government or organization to lend the imPorts - and America - their help. Players may also use this log to play out the long flight over, planning, and other associated activities.
WARNINGS: None anticipated; let us know if we should change this!



Depending on their assignment, all imPort diplomats will find themselves either in Seoul, South Korea; Mexico City, Mexico; Paris, France; or for UN attending imPorts, Davos in the Swiss Alps. They will be housed in the American Embassies and regardless of their Registration status, will be treated as American citizens. UN-attending imPorts will be housed in a hotel close by. Their accommodations will be that of an extremely luxurious hotel, and they will be provided with anything that they should require, be it books on the art of rhetoric, access to state of the art computers and laptops, food or drink. They will also be provided with boardrooms in which the teams may convene to assemble a strategy. Don't be distracted by the free drinks; this is a task that will require clear minds!

After one night of preparation, on January 26th, each team of imPorts will meet with either the government of their assigned nation or the UN. They will be placed at a podium in front of a room full of politicians and diplomats, and will be expected to state their argument. They will be allowed to have an opening speech before each assembly asks each group three questions.

When either the opening speech has been concluded OR the question has been answered to each player's satisfaction, please put QUESTION NEEDED in the subject title of your comment, and we will deliver the next question.

Just remember: an invasion is coming! Even if acquiring the alliance of these governments and organizations do not help with the imPorts' immediate predicament, it will impact the future of the game at large!

[Saint Walker's mainly kept to himself as he continued his exhaustive history on Earth's world history, but once he looks up and sees Gregor, he feels moved to go and say hello. They should all be collaborating here, after all, and he has a rather good impression of the young man after their solitary meeting. Saint Walker is dressed plainly, in clothing meant more for camping than diplomacy work, but he has little else.]

Good afternoon, brother, [he says, inclining his head towards Gregor, though Saint Walker's own visage is uncharacteristically solemn.] It is good to see you here, among our numbers.

[It's not like anyone else will realize it's for camping, given how un-Earth-like it looks. Gregor himself has been leaning on that-- his black-and-silver suit is something only the Emperor would wear on Barrayar. They're his house colors, the leaves his house symbol, and he's the only Vorbarra.

He's happy to run into Saint Walker, though he prefers to see him warm and inquisitive to this solemnity. Gregor doesn't look much different, so he can't say anything about that.]

You, too. You're going to the UN as well, aren't you? I'm hoping to convince them that planetary origin-- or species [and here he nods at him]-- doesn't make a difference in the rights we should all be afforded.

[He's rather deep in his planning and so wrenching his mind off of that topic might take a bit of doing.]

I am, yes. And I believe that we are well prepared to speak for the more... unusual looking among us. Perhaps seeing goodwill straight from the source itself may help assuage their worries.

[Gregor may be from another planet entirely, but that doesn't make the same statement as an alien and a skeleton showing up to speak with them, when it all comes down to it. Sometimes, Saint Walker does not believe it's being from a different planet that breeds animosity, but the differences in biology.

He folds his hands on top of the table, recalling their last talk, about politics and its virtues and failings alike.]

We will be able to do good here. I have faith in that much, [he says, voice plain and honest.] And you, brother, have been very quickly thrust into the spotlight shortly after your arrival, have you not?

I can only hope. Though you've done a good job persuading me of your good will, and I am also a human politician. [ In other words, used to duplicitous bastards and not easily fooled.

Gregor smiles briefly, dour and self-deprecating. ] Yes, unfortunately. It was my hope to lay low. Being so close to the Imperial family, I'm often in the spotlight on Barrayar as well. But I couldn't in good conscience do less here.

But of course. I understand why there are those who decided that they must take more direct means to rescuing our fellows, and I do not condemn their actions, but our actions will be just as necessary in the long run. This predicament that we have found ourselves in... it is far larger than just us.

[Saint Walker looks concerned, and rightfully so. War is a wretched thing, and it will tear apart more than just their small community.]

Do you have friends among the kidnapped?

... Miles. The person who came with me from home. [ He speaks quietly, in a way that makes it obvious this is the real root of his worries. ] We've been able to communicate via comms, at least, so I know he's alright. He's been passing me information.

That is fortunate indeed. I am sorry that one of your own has been taken. It is... difficult, when loved ones are in positions of peril.

[The look Saint Walker shoots his way is deeply sympathetic.]

Have faith, brother. There are many able bodies here, and many inquisitive minds. We will find them. It is only a matter of time.
