STRANGE, WHERE WERE YOU WHEN WE STARTED THIS GIG?

WHO: All diplomatic imPorts that have signed up HERE.
WHERE: The capitals of Mexico, South Korea, and France. UN-attending imPorts will be placed in Davos, Switzerland.
WHEN: January 26th.
WHAT: Democracy in motion as imPorts attempt to use their skills of persuasion to convince each government or organization to lend the imPorts - and America - their help. Players may also use this log to play out the long flight over, planning, and other associated activities.
WARNINGS: None anticipated; let us know if we should change this!

Depending on their assignment, all imPort diplomats will find themselves either in Seoul, South Korea; Mexico City, Mexico; Paris, France; or for UN attending imPorts, Davos in the Swiss Alps. They will be housed in the American Embassies and regardless of their Registration status, will be treated as American citizens. UN-attending imPorts will be housed in a hotel close by. Their accommodations will be that of an extremely luxurious hotel, and they will be provided with anything that they should require, be it books on the art of rhetoric, access to state of the art computers and laptops, food or drink. They will also be provided with boardrooms in which the teams may convene to assemble a strategy. Don't be distracted by the free drinks; this is a task that will require clear minds!

After one night of preparation, on January 26th, each team of imPorts will meet with either the government of their assigned nation or the UN. They will be placed at a podium in front of a room full of politicians and diplomats, and will be expected to state their argument. They will be allowed to have an opening speech before each assembly asks each group three questions.

When either the opening speech has been concluded OR the question has been answered to each player's satisfaction, please put QUESTION NEEDED in the subject title of your comment, and we will deliver the next question.

Just remember: an invasion is coming! Even if acquiring the alliance of these governments and organizations do not help with the imPorts' immediate predicament, it will impact the future of the game at large!

Get ready, our silver-tongued imPorts, and good luck!

Benton Fraser - Team France

A. [ He'd mostly been patient, watching everyone murmur and mingle, and while it was true that he wasn't a wholly confrontational sort of person, he did know the meaning of a deadline. They would all be taking off soon, they wouldn't get much sleep, and it would be a good idea for all of them to address some of the topics at hand.

So he found his place at the conference table, and turned on the mic, tapping it gently with his fingertips to check that it was working.
]

Ladies and gentlemen, I'd just like, if I may, to establish our prospective talking points. It's obvious that we shouldn't dwell too long on things that our prospective countries already know, given our limited time, but we should see that we don't, as groups, overlook any of the topics that will most endear our host countries toward us. The human rights topic is of course paramount, naturally; the question of whether or not we are commodities or people in our own right--what else should we be addressing?

B. [ Fraser's sn is goodie2shoes, and he didn't choose it for himself. He is available to his fellow diplomats most of the hours of both days, on account of that old motto: I'll sleep when I'm dead. Between stake outs and running around harebrained, he's done worse than stay awake three days in a row, here and there, so two isn't so bad.

But he can also be found in the corner of the French diplomatic suite, an hour or two before they're to be seen on the floor, his his thumb and forefinger pressed hard to the bridge of his nose, mouthing rehearsed words soundlessly.

[ 'I'll sleep when I'm dead' can have it's merits. It can also cause one to push themselves beyond a reasonable point when trying to burn the candle at both ends.

Charles had been keeping a quiet eye on his fellow diplomats, along with making efforts to introduce himself to the team he was working with. Those introductions might have been extremely brief, at least in the hustle and bustle to get from America over to France, so now seemed to be a good time to do a better job of it.

The manual wheelchair was silent, as Charles rolled over towards Fraser, one small benefit over his motorized one back in his home world. ]

You know, there is such a thing as too much preparation. [ He offered, in a low tone, hands folded into his lap. ] When was the last time you took a break?

[ It says something about his tiredness that he hadn't noticed Xavier's approach, and so he starts a little in his chair, before lifting his head slightly. For a moment he dwells on the answer--when was the last time he'd had a break? When was the last time he'd been at peace? It felt like weeks ago, and at once the feel of a warm cabin in Alaska springs to mind, Ray asleep on his shoulder while he reads - rereads - Gulliver's Travels. An enormous white wolf is asleep on his feet, and a half grown husky is curled up against his other side, curled with his nose under his tail.

And then a pang. Ray is among the kidnapped, and Fraser is here, planning to make a speech about it, rather than storming the Kremlin with an army of ice creatures. Ray would say that that was typical of him.

He gathers his nerve, though, and smiles with sad optimism at Charles.
]

I don't want to be caught off guard, when we go before the commission. This is hardly the longest I've gone without sleep.

[ Well that was one, about the only, benefit to the manual chair. It could be very quiet. It was difficult for Charles to miss the other man's surface thoughts, especially given the emotional intensity behind them. Ray felt like an important friend, the same sort of passion that Charles had felt from Erik, on the subject of Billy.

His expression softened to something more empathetic and he nodded. ]

I can understand that sentiment and that it must be difficult to sleep, given the already reactive nature of our missions here. [ You know, as opposed to chasing after the people who had done this.

Or ... chasing after the man who was chasing after the people who had done this with a desire to raze the Earth behind him. Charles was having his own struggle at keeping concern for Erik and Erik's actions out of his head. ]

But what we do here, could help ensure nothing like this happens in the future and we're going to need to be at our best. A meal, at least?
