I have faith in medication
WHO: John and Skye
WHERE: A walk-in clinic
WHEN: 8th December
WHAT: Moonlighting in urgent care, John comes across a familiar face with a dodgy elbow
WARNINGS: Not that I can foresee
At this time of the evening, the walk-in clinics in the states are usually littered with patients who have failed to secure an appointment at thei GP surgery and medical students looking to reduce their student debts. For John, they present an opportunity to break up the tedium associated with normal clinic work. There are only so many colds and rashes he can deal with without feeling bored and unchallenged with his workload.
Not that the past couple of days have been particularly easy – the attacks on downtown Heropa still resonate and the service has been stretched to its limit. Although it was two days ago, victims are still trickling in with minor burns and fractures they sustained in the attack. Triaged by a nurse practitioner while he was with another patient, John is reading through the details of his next patient when he walks into her cubicle, closing the curtain behind him.
"Evening. My name is – oh." Looking up from the clipboard, the surprised exclamation parts from John's lips before he can stop himself. There's a face he hasn't seen in a while.
"Hello."

"Hello."

Skye was never that big on doctors offices, but here she was after putting it off for a good portion of the day. If he hadn't reacted in a way that hinted that he knew her, Skye probably wouldn't have realized she had seen his face before.
"Uh, hi." Skye forced tiny smile on her face. "John, right?"
no subject
His smile comes easily. Although he doesn't know Skye very well, he does remember they chatted a bit on the network. If John tried to keep count on how many people have come back without their memories of this place, his tally would look like it belonged on the wall of a padded cell. For now, it's unimportant to why she's here and he focuses on the reason instead.
"Uh, so you told one of the nurses that you broke your elbow yesterday evening." The makeshift splint earns a curious, if not reproachful glance and his tone adopts a disapproving note.
"You really should've come to see us after it happened."
no subject
"Didn't think you guys were open that late." Skye shifts on the bed so she's sitting up a bit straighter.
"It's not as bed, managed to get it back into place." She just left out the part that it wasn't her who did it. Although he might assume she had help, as surely setting a bone wasn't something you could do on yourself.
"I switched powers with someone who has healing powers, but I haven't really figured out how to use them."

"Do you mind if I have a feel?"
no subject
"I barely know you." She knew what Simmons' reaction would've been to something like that, but maybe not all Brits had a crappy sense of humor.
"Go ahead."

"I don't know if you've spoken to them or not, but there are some kids that post to the network every so often. Twins. One time, the boy was sneezing out kittens and they wanted to find them a new home for them. It was pretty mental."
He removes the item currently subsisting as a board and examines her arm: there is slight swelling around the injury but no break through the skin. Considering this only happened yesterday, it doesn't look that bad. Maybe this was the healing power she was talking about. Now to determine whether there is decreased feeling by touching areas of the arm.
"Right. Let me know this feels."

Skye isn't too thrilled that he's taking off the only thing supporting her elbow right now, but she doesn't complain. Instead she just tenses up, preparing herself for the pain to grow. It was already always at the very least a dull throb. Once her arm was free there's a sharp shooting pain that runs up the rest of her arm.
This was like those hairline fractures all over again. Although instead of being spread out from her arms to her collarbone, it's only in one specific area.
"I don't feel any-!" Skye cut herself off when he pressed on one particular spot. "Okay that hurt!"
no subject
"Sorry, but it's actually a promising sign. You haven't got any decreased feeling there. Now, let's see what your arm mobility is like."
no subject
"Do we have to?" It was meant to come out as a joke, but she honestly didn't want to move her damn arm. Still, Skye waited for him to instruct her on what she had to do exactly.

"You can swear at me if you want. I've heard it all."

"Shit."
