[Perhaps it had been noticeable to others-- or perhaps they'd been too focused on the demeanor Maya tended to put forth. After all, she did have a habit of presenting herself as silly and excitable.

...At least, no one had ever said they noticed. A bit pink, Maya starts returning to her task.]

Well, the best thing to make to feed a lot of people is rice, right?

[She asks, looking at Kururu over her shoulder as she reaches up to grab the rice cooker off the fridge.]

Oh yeah, you're doing a really good job on that, by the way.

Oh, like, hamburgers and ramen-- [her two favourites] -- and daifuku and pizza-man....

...Well, basically, a lot more Japanese food than they have here.

He doesn't look like a statue though.

The best thing for any meal is rice.

Not that others are bad, it's just . . . not the same. Not when it's days at a time.

[ Digging into her pockets, she . . . comes up with a wrench, putting it absently on the counter beside the tea pot.

And then a caliper. A pair of pliers, another wrench . . . her brows start furrowing. They had been right here, hadn't they . . . ?]

Right? Rice you can have like, any time...

[It's easy to make, too, which means even when everyone is tired, the whole house can have a meal.

As Kururu starts laying things on the counter, Maya turns to look, curious.]

...Whatcha doin'?

I guess that makes sense . . . It's the closest to Japan after all.

[Maybe if he focuses, he can get across a mental image of impressive, powerful looking beasts with curled, cloudlike manes and giant eyebrows in a against a small bit of building still standing against general rubble. One's probably half-shattered.

Or maybe he can't get it across. But he'll make that extra effort just to bitch about dealing with youkai.]

< Listen to me - you see it, right? That thing? He's supposed to be one of those, but he's some tiny youkai freak version. >

My hair clips . . .

[ She smooths a hand over her hair self-consciously. It springs up again as soon as her hand passes, fwippy and rebellious and nothing at all like Maya's respectable multi-hued rainbow. ]

They were here . . . here?

[ A socket set joins the pile. Two screwdrivers. Some band-aids. ]

Oh-- weren't they on the couch?

[At least, that's where she'd thought she noticed them. She'd notice little things like that-- things she'd otherwise have to pick up for Pearl. But to her Kururu's flippy hair was cute, and she'd figured it was more of an aesthetic thing than super necessary.]

Want me to go look?

[And he leans closer, eyes locked on hers. It's a challenge now, and he's not going to lose THIS one. But his chest shakes with laughter, hands reaching up to grab her wrists playfully.]

Not from where I'm looking...~

You must be looking from the wrong place!

[She laughs just a little, bracing her wrists against him now that he's taken them, and leans just as much closer to him. She has a smirk on her face like she's got plans.]

[The sheer conviction just adds to the awkward feeling around the whole situation. It's an odd duality- the desire to take center stage but only in instances he specifically sets out to get. Right now, a spotlight is turned on him without him expecting it.

This is what he wanted, some small voice whispers; that attention, that belief. He looks back to the open door, then to Kaneda. His eyes find the floor, shifting around oddly.

Whatever this song is, it has an easily findable beat.

With Kaneda watching him, it's hard to even start. It just gets more awkward the longer this goes. But he can tell now that this won't end. Kaneda's determined. So.. He shuffles a little bit more side to side in the most halfhearted attempt at appeasing whatever demon's gotten into Kaneda. Then he can go. Right?]

It's . . . it's okay.

[ It's really not okay and being stuck under Ikki as a boy is very. very different from being trapped under Ikki as a bird (not that she's moving to get free), and Ikki as a bird dropped half of his feathers and is he moulting? and

buries her face in the couch, for a moment. ]

[Kaneda looks over his shoulder as he inspects the udon, silently waiting like a big, dumb puppy for the verdict. The question was enough--how DID he poach the egg so nicely? Who knows...he just...did his best, was all.

He doesn't have an answer, really, rubbing the back of his neck trying to search for one.

But thankfully, Ken asks that second question. One he has an answer for.]

Yeah! It's for you, you know!

[And that...practically melts Kaneda right there. For all his confidence and belief in himself, his natural talent at any physical activity and skill, cooking was the one thing he had to work at. It didn't come easily to him, and with that came the nervousness of failure.

Prepared for it, obviously, but nervous all the same. But her face softens after that first bite, and his own does too. Hell, even his voice is more gentle as he sits down, leaning his elbows on his knees.]

There's not a lot of places to eat Japanese food around here.


You pretty much have to do it yourself.

[ Two more handfuls of tools, her communicater (that's where it went . . .), a phone that looks like it's about ten years out of date, and—]

Aha! I knew they were here.

[Oh yep suddenly mental image there. Sissel's ears flick back, and then forward again, and then back and forth a few times as he tries to process the fact that there are images in his brain now. More cool powers!]

He doesn't look that scary. But how did you do that, I can see things!

[Wait. Shit. He was talking silently.

Ordinarily, Tetsuo's personal space is an important thing, practically sacred if he wants it. But this is a cat. He's grown fond of cats in general. Its paws are allowed wherever they generally want to be, as long as claws aren't involved.]

< That's how. It's telepathy. >

But how does telepathy work? I've talked to lots of people in their heads but I never could show them things.

Kaneda notices the shuffle, his feet kept in time with the beat pretty well for as...minimalist as it was. Black eyes glitter, his whole face lighting up at the motion as he hurries over, no longer acting as a 'judge' but as a partner, going up right next to him and attempting to copy that footwork.

It didn't matter how tiny it was, Kaneda's doing it with the same amount of enthusiasm as he would with the fuckin' Tango.

There's a little arm movement from him where Tetsuo doesn't, but that's more their own styles differentiating it.

But that was just it, it was Tetsuo's dance. ]

Yeah? Why don't you tell me where I should be looking then? Because all I see is a sooooreee loser~

[He supports her as she leans in, those hands holding firm as he leans just a tiny bit closer, their faces merely inches apart now.]

[Perfect. He's fallen for it.

Predictably, Maya leans those last few inches in, and quickly, too, but not to kiss him.

Rather, like a true adult, she sticks her tongue out right before her lips hit his nose, intending to gross him out.]
