That, or reminding him that in time, absolutely everything dies. That got a reaction out of him. [Although what he'd said afterwards had been... unsettling.]

[ And that is, sadly, the best she can do. As it is, there are so many more people going through, in and out of Nonah 05 that it's a little troublesome for someone as secretive as Kasumi. ]

Have you considered maybe getting out more, once in a while? I feel like I'd go stir-crazy if I spent most of my time in here.

[ Truth to tell, Kasumi doesn't need anyone to let her into any place. Knocking at the window is simply a courtesy for someone who's currently dealing with a lot, like Tetsuo is; Kasumi can't even begin to imagine what must be going through the kid's head.

But now that she's got his attention, she can at least hope that her letting herself in won't come as a complete shock. She waves at him just to let him know it's really him she's trying to see, here, before she steps back and promptly disappears into the shadows... only to emerge inside, teleporting in thru a dark corner of the room. ]

[Ikki doesn't stop him, merely watches, one hand still outstretched and a clearly surprised expression on his face. The punch barely even registered, for Tetsuo he might as well have punched drywall. A little give, but not enough...

He gives Tetsuo another long, odd look before simply leaving without a word.]

[Which probably would have been great if the asshole had stayed gone. Instead some four hours later or so, he drops back in - thankfully fully dressed.]

You know, I don't know what's going on, but that's an annoying look you've got. It's been pissing me off.

[Exactly against the tone of his words, he actually has rustled up enough for a cheap ramen bowl from one of the small markets nearby. Better than the American excuses for ramen cups, it's the standard 3 minute boiling water.]

It probably tastes like ass, but hey. What do you expect in America?

[STAGE ONE IN HOW TO TRAIN YOUR IKKI!]

[The impact leaves little spiderweb cracks in the brick wall between the two of them. Ikki's grip loosens as a little reaper swirls down for his punished soul.]

[His hair is more flat than usual. That aura is gone; had Inuyasha met him now, he'd smell just like a human.

As for Tetsuo, all he's doing is staring at the window intently, trying to gauge what's out there. It doesn't look like he can actually tell.]

[Part of the reason Inuyasha had gone to help Kaneda in the first place was knowing Koromaru and Ken would be in the forest with him.]

[As comfortable as he'd gotten with them, he didn't figure himself to be any kind of hero. Humans always had their problems and he preferred to stay out of them - unless someone he kinda liked got involved. Or a lot of someones, in this case.]

[So although it didn't quite seem like it, with the way he naps quietly next to Ken, he was glad to see them both safe. He winks back to wakefulness as a familiar nose pokes his knee. Sitting up straight, he holds Koromaru's face in his hands and bends forward to meet him.]

You want something?

[Yeah. Inuyasha may not seem like the sharpest guy around, but he knows an excuse when he sees one.]

Can't sleep, huh?

[By the time Ikki walks back in, Tetsuo's moved up to 'messing around with a gameboy advance' - looks like some pokemon knockoff. He's still largely expressionless... right up until Ikki shows up, announcing his presence.

His face darkens instantly, deepening as this guy - who the FUCK? - wanders in further.

To offer him ramen?]

[About time. Yayoi shifts her grip on Kazu slightly while Kururu's tucking the blanket in, adjusting for the change, but her main focus is on Kaneda now.]

Thanks for subduing him. He never calms down as quickly as he should.

It's . . . Kaneda-san, right? Can we go with you? I can't do much for Kazu-kun's legs here.

[ A completely ordinary question, asked in a completely ordinary tone—as if Kaneda and Ikki hadn't just been on the edge of a serious fight, as if she had no reason at all to worry about the kind of person he might be, or doubt his intentions.

She didn't, though. It had been all through his run: whoever Kaneda was, whatever had happened, he cared about Kazu. That was enough. ]

Ikki-kun, Kazu-kun needs to go home. Can you carry him?

[Oh well. That's how it is.]

[And back to the Iron Chef competition, suddenly; a tone gets Tetsuo's attention. He listens for a moment, setting down communicator to try this cocoa stuff. And, miracle of miracles, he remembers he's the super important one who understands anything being said here for a second.]

By the way, that's the one minute warning.

[For his part, Rocky just sort of dangles there, blinking slowly at Inuyasha like this is the most normal thing in the world.]

[After a moment or two, he just starts purring.]

... that's all I can ask, then.

[For both what's been said, and left unsaid. Forcing other people's decisions isn't something he wants. It never really has been.]

[He smirks a bit, but there's nothing amused in it.]

I will. Eventually. Sort of feel like sticking around here is best for now... in case...

[Guilty as charged. Kaneda walks over, sitting on the armrest of the couch with the ice pack on the back of his neck.]

Guess my brain's still in battle mode.

[She does as instructed, turning the comm around to show off Inuyasha's DASHING NEW LOOKS, despite the fact that wasn't what she called about. She's totally concerned, okay, Inuyasha, there's just many ways of handling problems.]

[But he went down. When everything rode on him him not to, when it mattered most that he prove that he could survive despite what Kaneda said, he couldn't. Maybe Rick knew he would..Rick was the one who told him people return, wasn't he?

Maybe Tetsuo wasn't sure he wanted to. Not if he had to be like this.

His head presses in harder against Rick's shoulder, curling downwards further as his shoulders hitch. Failure burns in his throat, tinging every word. He tried so hard to prove his worth. For a while, he thought he had.

What use is someone who died to a survivor?]

To do what I couldn't.

[His voice is barely above a whisper, thick with emotion. Not 'didn't.' Not 'should have'.

Couldn't.]

[It'd been a long two weeks since everything happened, since Kaneda brought Tetsuo home from the Nonah Porter, dead and cold in his arms, and then out to Heropa into Pan's jungle to take him head on. It was tiring, and no one probably left the house for much of anything. The comm, mostly silent.

Everything was quiet in Nonah 05 for awhile. People shuffled in to see Tetsuo, sure, but it wasn't really widely discussed outside of the house. After all, what do you really say to something like that?

But when Qubit approaches, Kaneda's quick to answer the door, peeking his head out ever so slightly in case it was a government official. He had no idea if this country would put any fault on Tetsuo for what happened, and he's convinced America's lenient to a fault (Crane, for example), but the instinct is still there.]

...Huh.

[The door opens wider, seeing Qubit.]

Didn't expect you to drop by.

[rassera]

[With the action doing just what it was supposed to, Kaneda frees himself from Ikki's grip, giving one more smack upside the head for good measure.]

You mean he's always like that? Mmm mm...poor girls.

[And when Kururu addresses him, the sudden sincerity kind of hits him. Girls always had that tone when they meant it, and when they didn't, you sure as hell knew. But there's no threat in her voice, only concern for a fallen...friend.

Kazu was their friend.

He nods, gaze going from them to Kazu, who looks...well, he's definitely looked better.]

You guys need a ride?

[There's a snap of his fingers, his bike appearing next to them, parked and ready to go. An offer, especially if he's going to be keeping up with people on rollerblades.]

[A head jerk to Ikki.]

He can walk, though.

[He stands up, pizza still in hand as he walks around his room--the walls are mostly bare, painted over in white and almost...suffocating in how empty they look.

One free hand rests against the wall, raking the primed wall with his fingers.]

I'm gonna paint something there. Any ideas what it should be?

Yeah, can't remember the last time I slept that much. I think it was...school.

[Kaneda you didn't sleep for that long in school, you dumbass.]

Time passes so slow, you'd think I was there for days.

[He shoves some of those noodles in his mouth, using the chopstick to scoop them in. ...Sorry, Riku, he's like an actual garbage disposal.]
