WHO: Shinjiro Aragaki, and others! WHERE: Quite a few places! WHEN: Mid to late December WHAT: Just a quick catch-all log for the end of December! WARNINGS: None foreseeable. Will update should that get changed.
[Sure, he doesn't exactly plan on being in De Chima over Christmas- but he's got the day free, and there's still a box shoved in a crawlspace full of random cheap decorations. The Hamadas will likely be in Heropa with Cass, he and Akihiko will be going out of town through Christmas and New Years…
But he needs an excuse to hang out with Ken and Koromaru before he leaves- and neither of them are particularly good at just sitting around and talking. As much progress as they've made over the year, it's still easier to have a distraction, or something else to focus on when it's just the two of them. Be it making dog treats for Koromaru or cutting Ken's hair, or making a lame attempt to justify the time spent by decorating the house that no one will be around to enjoy.
(Except maybe Jacob. Who knew, with that guy.)
But he's attempting to try and make more progress with Ken Amada and their burgeoning sort-of-friendship. It's so easy to stagnate and claim that it's good enough that Ken doesn't hate him, that they can talk and cooperate… but that won't exactly make progress, will it? And it wouldn't be fair to Ken, who had clearly put forth effort of his own.
So he pulls a length of scratchy, green-plastic garland from the box, nose wrinkling at the dust kicked up by it, and moves to offer it out to his younger teammate.]
I think we got this for the stair rail? I don't really remember...
And it wasn't as though Shinjiro didn't have time. School was out on winter break, and he still only worked mornings at the cafe. There had been nothing stopping him from getting started on Christmas shopping or compiling a list of things to get for people before leaving town for the holiday… but it had also required mustering up the effort to get out there and get things.
And that had just never happened.
So now here he is, in the final stretch, after sending out a few desperate texts and agreeing to meets Minato at the mall to finally get everything done and packaged and given before he and Akihiko set out on the trip. He has a scribbled list with names on it and large blank spaces next to each one, having had no luck at trying to figure out what to get for anyone. (He's always been terrible at giving gifts.) He's hoping the leader will have some advice, if nothing else.
For now he's waiting outside of the Cinnabon at the mall, thumb passing over his phone screen a few times as he scrolls through something, brows creasing even further. Maybe if he even knew where to start, this wouldn't be such a pain.]
[It's hardly late, but the sun is already coming down, the last patches of light subtly dying down behind the light cloud coverage, turning all the snow and woods outside a shade of bluegrey. It means the slopes will be closing down, people returning to their rooms or cabins or maybe even just the bar in the main lodge, discarding wet and frozen gloves and shoes to finally warm up.
Unless, of course, you're like Shinjiro and are already inside.
They've been here for a few days- and hell, he'd even been talked into attempting to ski. Succeeded some, too. And then got a bit cocky and fucked it all up, meaning one of the evenings halfway through their trip was spent at a local ER, getting his right arm re-located and secured in cast and sling. But he doesn't seem to mind, at least.
Really, he prefers this- sitting cross-legged on the carpet in their small, one-level cabin, back to the fire growling and snapping in the large stone hearth. The only windows and small and few to keep warmth inside, especially with the dusty snow still fluttering down and frost creeping up the grass in thin branches.
Staying in means less exertion and embarrassing himself out there, after all- and without Akihiko nagging him, or issuing challenges he feels the need to rise to. He loves the time spent alone, detached from the ImPort world and community, as well as any shit from back home, sure- and definitely doesn't need space away from Akihiko... it's just that they have vastly different hobbies.
But this? This works. Akihiko can still go out and tackle slopes in the morning, return when the sun starts going down or the snow gets too bad, and they can just... continue their lazy vacation through New Years. Broken arm be damned.]
Decorating with the kid and the dog!
