[... This is new. Ken blinks at the weight on his head, but it's only seconds before he relaxes into it, leaning back against him.]

But I swear I'll make you grow out of calling me that. We're only a few years apart!

Uh-uh. Five years apart.

[Jaime's a cheater. Biologically speaking, it's more like four years apart; he's actually going to be turning seventeen instead of eighteen, but it's so much more convenient to just roll with what's listed on his birth certificate. He'll take being legal sooner.]

That's more than a few. So that means I'm never gonna stop calling you that, 'cause no matter what, I'll always be that much older than you.

[amadaman]

That's not fair. Then I can never beat you -- even if I'm younger I'm almost thirteen!

[Yes, kid. "Almost." Because "in six months" is "almost."]

Yeah, well, life isn't fair.

[They both know that... but in this case, Jaime says it much more playfully.]

Which means that no matter what, you can never beat me. Give it up; this is a fight you're not gonna win. Call it a perk of being old.

[That immediately gets from Ken a long, exaggerated groan and he leans back more against Jaime.]

I hate being told to give up. Why would you do this, Jaime-san.

Because I'm the worst, [Jaime says, comfortably. He's satisfied with that assessment. It's every older brother's job to be the worst, in some way, shape or form.] You found out too late, though, 'cause now you're in it too deep. You're stuck with me.

I am. I'm running out of options, and this is an unavoidable battle.

[He reaches over to try to mess with Jaime's hair. He's gonna ruffle it as much as you do his!! Try not to get poked in the eye, Jaime.]
