WHO: Kaneki, Touka and Hinami
WHERE: Cannibal house, De Chima
WHEN: Dinner time
WHAT: Cannibal family
WARNINGS: well. cannibalism.
[ Kaneki wasn't born a ghoul and in all honesty, he still doesn't know much about ghoul society. His short lived life as a ghoul was, after all, all about chasing Aogiri Tree and consuming it, rather than learning how ghoul society works. But one of the things he did learn, was that, in a normal situation, female ghouls usually don't like to be seen eating and they eat alone if possible; it's also considered uncivilized to watch a female ghoul eating.
However, he and Touka have reached a stage where they eat together without much of a problem on Touka's side. Like a family, they have dinner, and they do cook, they share their meal, they use fork and knife - it'd be very normal if their food wasn't... well, human parts.
At least they cut everything so it won't look like any specific part.
Hinami doesn't accompany them, however, this time around, Kaneki has asked her if she'd like to join them. Though she was a bit reluctant at first, the girl agreed and that means today's dinner will be extra fancy, as fancy as a ghoul can make their food. Roasted food, even those ridiculous little cubes Kaneki used to join all his drinks to curb his hunger (Hinami can join it to the water to give flavor. Like tea he supposes), and blood wine - he tries to figure out how to make it and hey. It doesn't taste bad!
With all set for dinner, Kaneki washes his hands one last time, before his head peeks out from the kitchen ]

Hey- dinner is ready!

And one day, she'd decided- fuck it. Why not? She knew Kaneki would never bring it up, so she'd asked him first, and she hasn't regretted it. Even after that first meal, it'd taken a bit of getting used to. But now? She doesn't mind it at all.
She's even being helpful at the table again? Setting up silverware? What is this?
Ok, to be fair, the main reason she's being extra nice is because of Hinami. Touka'd noticed her friend's reluctance too, even though she'd agreed to try it. And Touka wants to do any little thing she can to help make things more comfortable for her.]
Bring it on out! [Smiling, she turns towards Hinami.] You ready to eat, Hina?
sorry for the wait!!
[ to non-ghouls, it might seem ridiculous to worry so much about eating in front of others, especially people she knows and trusts (has trusted) with her life.
there's just something uncomfortable and inherently dangerous about a ghoul being seen eating.
but, in all honesty, she's been jealous of kaneki and touka's ability to sit down to a meal together. it's so...human and family-like. so when kaneki had asked, hinami had agreed to it despite her reservations.
it's safe to eat together here. ]
Is there anything else I can help with before we do?

Kaneki knows perfectly well this reluctance. In all honesty, before he didn't want to be seen eating - in fact, Touka knows quite well Kaneki's get away's in the forest so he can eat alone like a voracious wolf and this is also something Kaneki doesn't want others seeing. But he enjoys this, acting normal and being normal and he hopes Hinami will eventually feel comfortable about it. ]
Thank you, Touka-chan. [ he places at the table the tray he just took from the oven and shakes his head ] It's alright, sit down. [ a pause. ] -did you wash your hands? [ OK SO MAYBE GHOULS DON'T HAVE TO TO DO THAT but Kaneki does it, maybe it's a human eating thing, you gotta suck it up, Hinami. ]

Touka smiles as she rolls her eyes at Kaneki's comment- plopping down onto the closest seat now that the table's been set. Why is he such a mom.]
Wash your hands? Really?
[At least he hasn't made comments like that to her before.]
That's what we've got forks and knives for anyway.
[The regular old banter between them helped Touka relax the first time they ate together. Maybe it'll help Hinami too. It's great, because she doesn't even have to try to make fun of him- it's so easy.]

[ because she is a good daughter mom!!!
hinami takes her seat, feeling odd not having her workbooks in front of her. that's the only other thing she's sat down at this table for. ]
Onee-chan, you should still wash your hands so you don't get sick.
[ do ghouls get sick??? who knows, she's just repeating things she's heard. ]

dman right cannibaby is well behaved and totally not like her onee-san and worries about these things.
Kaneki glances back at Touka once he hears Hinami's answer and her statement about Touka getting sick, and he might be a bit amused ]
Touka-chan should learn with Hinami-chan. [ of course. ]
[ Kaneki won't sit down yet, and instead he will grab Touka's dish to put some food on it - he figures it'd be better to serve Hinami after Touka, so she won't feel so nervous. ]

[Touka's grinning at Hinami...but not at Kaneki. SHE SAW THAT LOOK. Don't think she'll forget it either.
Hand-washing isn't happening anyway, since Kaneki's starting to serve her the food. When the plate's set in front of her, Touka'll start eating- a little more slowly than usual. Mostly to make sure Hinami doesn't seem too uncomfortable from it.
Another benefit to fake-eating around humans? Aside from helping her get used to the idea of sharing a meal, it'd also gotten Touka used to the usual atmosphere of it too. After a few bites, she looks back up to Kaneki.]
Not bad. You're getting better.

And once their parent duties are done, Kaneki returns to the kitchen. They have to tidy up the place and since he is never tired nor sleepy, he decides this time is as good as any to do it. The food that wasn't eaten is put back again in the oven, and he grabs his still half full glass containing blood wine, which he decides to drink since it'd be a waste.
it's not bad, not at all. he remembers drinking some when he was at Iori-san's bar, and of course that was a lot better, but for someone who just figured out how to do this, his first try at blood win went pretty darn well. ]

As far as she's concerned, chances are still pretty good that she's not going to end up stumbling drunk on wine though.
...but given her plate-breaking record at Anteiku, maybe they should put away some of the nicer/delicate glasses. Whatever. Touka doesn't need to be fancy about this. It's just the two of them in their house, after all.
She grabs a plastic cup out of the shelves, and marches over to Kaneki with her hand outstretched. Classy]
Alright, pour me some. I'm ready.
no subject
When Touka comes closer and hands him a plastic glass, Kaneki pauses, blinking. Of course he takes it, and adds a smile right after, and per request he will reach for the bottle of wine and pour himself and Touka some.
After he puts the bottle down again, Kaneki rises his glass. ]
Bottoms down?
no subject
[Touka swirls the liquid around in her glass and peers down- eyeing the contents. Maybe downing something they've never had before isn't the best idea...But it looks a lot like the same stuff she's seen other ghouls drink. It'll be fine.
Besides, she can't back out of it if Kaneki's the one who suggested it.
She rises her own cup too.]
Are we supposed to toast to something?
no subject
Toast...? [ toasting to Aogiri not being in this world, toasting to people not dying all the time, toasting to Kaneki being able to keep his sanity for a while longer... ]
aha, to what, exactly?
