- Cape Canaveral. It's no longer the heat of the day and in January the temperatures will be livable; not too hot and not too cold, either. A pleasant change from the City, perhaps. The sun is on its way to setting but the last light of the day still fills the sky, bursting the city into color. The air smells like ocean.
The locals are friendly and smile and wave, looking on at you in awe. They'll approach if you ask for help, or a question, but they don't want to interfere, either; if you want to be left alone you probably will be. American flags can be seen in many windows and restaurants are rolling out their dinner menus. There's no parade, no big banners, but many storefronts have handmade signs and posters that read:
The woman at the Porter told you what to expect: You know what your tattoo means, you've been given your file, and you know in a few hours they're going to be here to answer more of your questions and see if you'll stand with them or if you'll go off on your own. "It's your decision," one of them had said, but you were already told what you get if you agree and what you don't if you don't. After that's done, she told you, you'll be driven to your new homes.
In the meantime, enjoy the area, or try to. It may not be what you're used to, but after the apocalypse even Florida might seem like an improvement.

Once she pulls back she smooths her hair down and nods.] As alright as I'm gonna be. You?
[When Sharon is mentioned she shakes her head.] No, sorry. I'm sure she's around somewhere though.
no subject
Fine... [ He shakes his head now. ] R-Right... she shouldn't be difficult to spot in these surroundings.
no subject
Yeah... Sir Apple can help, can't you buddy? [The dragon is immediately interested and no longer trying to perch on Gil.] You remember what Sharon looks like right? Think you can find her? [Even if he understands he settles on Kenzi's head.] So not helpful.
I'm sure we'll find her, I'll help you look.
no subject
Of all the things, really? What a strange turn of events... ]
Thank you.
[ A measured pause. ]
This is still the United States, isn't it? They call this place Florida, but the flags are the same as the ones I've seen in the City.
no subject
No problem. [She smiles, a smile that only grows wider.] Yup! Isn't it great! Beaches and sunshine! I can so, like, work on my tan and relax on the beach and watch high guys in surf! Although...it's doing terrible things to my hair...

Lachesis never sends us anywhere without an objective in mind. Then what... [ Gold eyes flick over the locals passing by and the ones who point excitedly toward him and Kenzi. ] What are we to do here?
no subject
True... And the last time we ended up in a world where they were ready for us like this... [They were treated like animals and she died. But that's going unsaid. Her voice lowers as she continues speaking, well aware of the attention they're receiving.] I'm more worried about if we can trust our new friends. [Sure, they haven't corralled everyone together and forced them through any kind of evaluations or anything but she's sure they're keeping an eye on everyone.]
As far as what we're to do here...I guess keep living? The City is gone and I'm guessing Lachesis is too.

[ He lifts his arm, pulling back his sleeve to look at the strange tattoo on his wrist. He rubs at it, but it remains where it is; embedded deep within the skin.
He bristles listening to the words "the City is gone". ]
Do you really think so?
no subject
no subject
I don't know.
[ He answers honestly.
But they haven't seen the City for themselves in a few hours now. It could have been restored.
Right? ]
no subject
Well, we're here now, might as well make the most of it. Right?
no subject
[ He doesn't sound certain this time when he answers. He can't wrap his head around any of this, but he knows this much: they have now had to leave behind a dying city.
A dying world.
Who knows how many innocent lives are lost to that world? While he has to remember his priorities, a huge part of him is sickened that he could turn away from people in need so easily. ]
no subject
You're not going to get all depressed on me are you? Because you might be, like, my best friend here but I really can't deal with depression right now.
no subject
He sobers up, gazing back at Kenzi apologetically. ]
I'm fine.
[ He's being selfish, isn't he? They're going through enough as it is, so it's best not to aggravate their situation. ]
I'm going to look for Sharon.
no subject
She nods slowly and coaxes Sir Apple back to her before pulling out her comm.] Splitting up might make things easier, I'll let you know if I find her. [She waves her comm at him before stuffing it back into her pocket.]
no subject
Alright, just be careful, Kenzi.

Call me if you find her.
[ He heads off in the opposite direction, trying to push past tension and ignoring the nausea in the pit of his stomach. ]
