Shake things up [OPEN]
WHO: Skye and open
WHERE: Residence #031 and around Hereropa
WHEN: First week of November
WHAT: Skye is adapting to the area.
WARNINGS: Cursing
Skye has been trying to figure out how on earth she had gotten here. With everything happening in her life at the moment, this was just adding more stress onto it. The fact that she has yet again left her team, against her will no less, was making her feel sick to her stomach. Still, she tried to adapt to being here. Meeting people in various places, trying to get information on 'Hereopa' and, well, everything. The tattoo especially bothered her, and apparently it wasn't just her. Everyone was 'branded'.
At the least the weather was nice?
Skye is uncomfortable with the fact that some people seem to know her, when she has never seen them before. This just added more questions in the long list of questions she has made in her head.

"Why?" It's the only thing she think to ask.
no subject
"It's a long fucking story," he sighs, backing away from her. "Look, if we're gonna talk about this, we gotta go somewhere private. Like... Really private." And he's not sure she's ready to be alone with him in a secluded location. Which is why he told her to wait a while.
no subject
"Fine." If he tried anything Skye knew how to defend herself, and she was sure he knew that too.
no subject
Instead of doing that, he rolls his head back and growls in frustration. "Okay," he concedes through gritted teeth, and turns to lead the way to his car. It's just up the road up ahead, and no less subtle than those hundred-dollar bills in his wallet: a banana-yellow convertible sportscar. Of course.
no subject
"You know, you're not exactly subtle about what it is you do." She had thought him being a drug dealer was a possibility the moment he left that tip, only further suspecting it when he got all vague about it.
"And that just makes it more obvious. Seriously?"
no subject
"It's on a lease," he sighs, hopping into the driver's seat without bothering to open the door. "And - It just helps, okay? Nine times outta ten, throwing money around makes people like you, not send 'em running off to the cops."
no subject
"How are you even getting away with it? Don't you realize the government is watching us?"
no subject
"I been at this for a long time. I know how to cover my ass. Plus I'm a good little boy and I do everything the government asks me to. Look me up on the internet real quick. They think I'm a saint."
He donates blood. He volunteers at the hospital. He cures cancer. There are photos of him working relief at every disaster that's struck in the past year and a half, healing people even when he looks half-dead himself. It's perfect, really. But when he says the word saint, he sounds disgusted, not proud.

"Everybody here's at the mercy of the government, right? They give us our houses and our paychecks and our healthcare and all that other shit. You know how you get outta that cage? Money."
He glances at her. He knows she's going to be skeptical. "I'm not Tony Stark. I'm not some kinda genius who can walk into a world and build a tower and get people throwing cash at me from every direction. This shit is what I know how to do. I do it because I gotta do something. I can't just stand by and let the feds own us."
no subject
"Uh, the yellow car says differently." Yeah, it didn't look that way. At all.
He's got a point though, but it still bothers her. "And what happens when they find out? Eventually it's going to happen." Maybe not by her, because really, it's not exactly her business, but someone will.
no subject
"I know it will." In no small part thanks to Skye's previous efforts to unmask him. "I don't care if I get caught. I'm gonna get what's coming to me, I know that, but this shit is more important than that. It doesn't matter if I'm in prison. The money's gonna get where it needs to go."
no subject
"So you'll just be in another cage and you're okay with that?"
no subject
"I made my choice a long time ago. All the things I've done, Skye... I deserve what happens to me."
no subject
"What do you mean?" Sure, being a drug dealer was pretty fucked up, but so was Skye. Her past was hideous.
no subject
"I'm not a good person," he says as he turns to face her. "And I'm not saying this to scare you. Even if I - Even if I could, I'd never hurt you." Oh yes, he's very aware of her strength and prowess. No part of this is meant to be intimidation, despite the setting.
"I've hurt a lot of other people, though. A lotta people. Some of 'em by accident, some of 'em on purpose."
no subject
She isn't comforted by his reassurance that he wouldn't hurt her because she didn't know him. Still, it's hard to believe he could be lying about that.
"So have I." More so emotionally than physically, but still.
"If we were as close as you say we were, you would know just how fucked up my life was before SHIELD."
no subject
It's strange to be confessing like this. He didn't say a word when she had a gun to his head. Even when she sent Loki after him, he'd only given the vaguest responses. The secret seemed to matter so much more back then. But now... All the money he's amassed and all the suffering he's endured because of it... It's hard to imagine things can get worse if he gives her the truth she always begged for. Especially after having faced the possibility he might never see her again.
"See, the difference between you and me is I kill innocent people. People who beg for their lives, you know? People who didn't have to die, but they did, because I - I decided to do it."
no subject
" How can you sit here and tell me that you do this for people, to help them, and then turn around and say you kill innocent people?!"
no subject

"You're psychotic." Skye hissed out as she undid her seatbelt and reached for the door handle. Pushing the door open, Skye quickly got out of the car and slammed the door shut. Of course he had driven them out into an area she was not the least bit familiar with but if he tried anything, he would regret it.

Jesse stays in the car, though, and doesn't look like he intends to chase her. They're not that far from town. She could get home by foot, if that's what she wants to do. But... "You don't have to run. I can drive you back."
