Haha, I know. Maybe it's less that I'm fighting and more that I'm just not casting magic.

[He shrugs -- it's never really made sense to him either.]

Then I guess resting would have the same effect, yeah? It'd be pretty easy to test -- see how much stronger you feel after you fight versus after you rest.

[A beat.]

...not that it really matters, I guess. It's just the kind of thing I would do.

[He also wanted to see how fast he could go, lost control, and flew directly into the ground during his first months as a superhero. He destroyed an innocent brick wall trying to figure out his claws, and discovered the hard way that fire hydrants need to be operated in a very specific way.

Don't be Jaime, Riku.]

Yeah. Guess I could... write it down or something.

You know... maybe it's a part of the Keyblade, too. When it hits something, maybe it absorbs some of the energy from the opponent or whatever.

[He can't say he's ever done anything of that caliber, but he's seen Sora do some stuff that might be parallel with how dumb that is.

After a moment Riku sits back in his chair, tea cupped in both hands. Now that his thoughts have kind of tapered off, he's back to the original reason he came here.]

... I'm going to change the subject here for a second, but... I'm a little concerned about Minato. Have you ever noticed him just... go to sleep for days?

He likes to sleep a lot.

[He doesn't know it as well as someone like Gogo would, particularly as she lives in the same house as him. And while Minato's professed his affection for sleeping, Jaime hasn't known him to ever be too busy sleeping whenever he's decided to call or text him.]

But for days at a time? That's not so great. Has he been doing that lately?

[He nods. He isn't sure how to feel about this -- Riku goes out of his way to avoid sleep, so the way Minato operates is totally foreign to him. But even he isn't so silly as to think it's normal.]

I mean, not for... that long. I'm pretty sure he still goes to work most of the time. But I've stopped in when it's school hours and he'll be there.

[Minato may have skipped something like three days a week lately.]

You ever talk to him about it?

[He'll have more to say on the matter later, but he wants to know the level of Riku's involvement first. Sometimes it's hard talking to Minato about things like this - there's nothing quite so demoralizing as the blank stare you receive when he doesn't realize why what you're talking about is important - but it's a necessary evil anyway.]

... Yeah, sort of. He kind of just looked at me. [He smiles quietly.] But he does that a lot, so I should have expected it. I've just been kind of... going over and checking on him when I go by. I do a trip through each of the cities at least once a week for work, so. Sometimes, though, it'll have been a couple of days, and it's hard to tell whether he even got up in between visits.

Checking on him seems like a good idea. I dunno, usually when someone's sleeping that much, you gotta wonder if they're staying healthy, but for Minato? I think he just has a lot on his plate. Between school and work and the fifty kajillion things he signs himself up for...

I'd be sleeping forever too!

[Jaime feels as if he has hands full with his two jobs and his friends, let alone a whole host of others.]

But if you can, it's probably good to get him up and moving whenever you're over.

Yeah. I can't even imagine how he manages to do all that stuff. I'd get tired after like three things.

[He does, too. He can handle fighting for hours and needing to survive and all that stuff, but give him anything interpersonal and he wants to leave an hour in. But then, Minato seems to care for all of those people, and with the people Riku likes, it's different. They don't make him feel tired. So... maybe it's in the middle.]

Mm. I do wake him up, so I'll have to start insisting a little harder that he gets up.

Probably not a bad thing letting him get some rest -- you could always just wake him up and sit around with him for a while, see if you can get him to talk. Whenever I lie around all day, it's 'cause I feel like crap.

[And not necessarily physically. Jaime has a bad habit of choosing just to lie around when he's feeling depressed. If he's upset, you can expect there to be a marathon of some background noise on TV with Jaime draped inelegantly on the couch.

Minato has so much to look forward to when they move in together.]

Mm. ... I get like that, too.

[He doesn't watch a whole lot of TV, though -- Riku kind of has no idea what to do with himself in those sorts of situations. He can't sleep like Minato does, because he'll dream. So he just stays up and powers through it.]

Guess I'll have to bring him a treat or something.

That, or you could just ask him what's going on. He'll never tell you unless you actually ask -- and ask directly.

[He shouldn't be saying that like Riku of all people doesn't already know that, but, well... he's so quiet about it that it's hard to cotton onto it. The more people getting in his business, the better.]

Yeah. I... try not to force him, though, either. Sometimes I feel like it's really uncomfortable for him.

[He nods, looking down at his mug, which is more or less empty now, and then back to Jaime.]

Uh -- I'm sorry what I told you wasn't what you would have preferred to hear about me. But... thanks for listening, either way.

Hey, you don't hafta thank me for anything. I'm the one who was prying. And, I mean...

[He can't say that he was happy to hear what Riku had to say. It complicates things. It does, knowing that he's ruined the life of someone that Jaime knows and likes, of some kid who deserved miles better than he got.

Eventually, he says,] I'd rather hear something I didn't want to than hear a lie, anyway. But you know I'm always gonna try and look out for Roxas, right? And Minato?

[Which is to say, at the present, Jaime's loyalties don't lie with Riku. Give it time. He's easy to win over.]

[He nods -- he can understand this, naturally. If he were on the other side of this conversation, that's what he'd be saying, too.]

Yeah, of course. I... would prefer it that way, anyway. They're important. They can both protect themselves if they were in danger, but... some things are harder to protect yourself from.

Okay. Okay, good.

[He doesn't want to be mean -- and he doesn't want to make it seem like he's saying it in a threatening way either. It's just that he's got priorities, and his list of priorities is mainly comprised of people.]

It's not like I'm expecting you to do anything, it's just -- someone's gotta look out for them. So long as you're cool with it, we're on the same page.

[Jaime glances down at his cup of tea - mostly empty by now - then turns to glance at the door. Minato's taking longer than he'd expected.]

And I know you'll be looking out for him in your own way too.

No, I'm fine with that.

[Jaime doesn't even really have to like him -- it's not something he wouldn't see coming, with the information he's just shared. It's not really an issue for him whether people like him or not, honestly, though it's easier when they do. The problem is when he tells them these sorts of things, and then they have to reevaluate their opinion of him. Maybe it's best that they're starting from the gate with it, instead.]

Mm. I'm going to do my best, anyway.

[He watches Jaime for a moment -- he looks like he's waiting for something to happen, and he lets his eyes focus on the middle distance rather than on him for a moment. Now that they're just sitting here, he feels weird.]

Good.

[Jaime stands up and stretches his arms out in front of himself before rapping his knuckles against the table, having decided that this conversation's run its course.]

Minato's taking way too long, and I gotta get back to Heropa, so I'm gonna hit the road. Do me a favour and tell him that I said goodbye. And... thanks for being honest with me. I'll see you around.

[Riku sits back in his seat, then nods.]

Okay. And... yeah. I don't want to be dishonest with this kinda stuff. It'd just bite me in the ass anyway.

[He gets up too, as Jaime goes, collects the mugs and runs some water into them. He's not sure what he wants to do now.]
