[He lands nearby, looking around.

He still has a coffee in hand.]

Yeah, I think so?

Phew. Good. The cops are on their way now - [Khaji had helpfully called them while they were fighting, just as Jaime had instructed him to do in cases like these] - so I guess all that's really left to do is wait. Thanks for the assist!

[Jaime regards Billy curiously. He's clearly a guy who's done this kind of thing before.]

...this feels like the superhero equivalent of do you come around here often, but, uh... do you do this often? I don't think I've run into you doing this street-level stuff before.

No, I don't...anymore.

I mean I used to but that was a long time ago.

[He looks a little bit anxious at the prospect, actually.]

I guess I'm supposed to start up again?

There's really no 'supposed to' involved with this kind of thing, is there? If you don't wanna do it, then you don't have to do it.

[He tilts his head.]

Let me guess: the first time round went kinda badly?

I don't know. Does it count if I had been superheroing for like a year before it went badly as "the first time around"?

[Billy shrugs.]

The second time around went fine, I guess. I mean, we saved the world, so, you know. Go team.

Well... congratulations on that, anyway!

[Jaime sounds a bit blase about it, though; if Billy's from a world with superheroes active enough to quit twice, then saving the world is just par for the course.]

But yeah, I'd say it counts. You get guys who take up the gig for years before, you know... things get messed up enough for them to quit the first time.

[The first time, he says, because the superhero gig seems to be something that people rarely quit, even if things going wrong meant that they died the first time.]

So, uh, if you saved the world the second time 'round, then why'd you stop?

Depression?

[That's right. Depression. Billy's depression is off the charts.]

Oh.

[He winces, regretting having asked the question in the first place. It's not that he hasn't dealt with depressed people before - he has, and people he suspects may have it worse than Billy just through virtue of how fabulously bad they were - but it's always a little awkward to talk about with a virtual stranger.]

Well... that's a pretty good reason to stop. [He rubs at the back of his neck.] And to stay stopped, until you're feeling a little better, honestly. Nobody's been pressuring you to get back into it here, yeah? Most of us seem to just leave each other alone.

Well, no, it's fine.

[Really, it's fine.]

Does this happen a lot? You'd think with all the heroes around here people would be more careful about it, wouldn't you?

[Though the only thing they don't need is careful thieves.]

Well... Okay.

[He doesn't particularly believe Billy - talking about having to get back into the game after quitting because of depression doesn't sound fine - but he doesn't exactly know Billy well enough to say otherwise.]

Anyway, it still happens sometimes. I don't do as much with the muggings as I do other stuff, but people don't stop just because there are heroes around. They don't back home either.

What other stuff are we talking about, here?

[This is an important question.]

Back home? Supervillains and stuff. But here, I'm mostly talking normal disasters. You know, housefires and car crashes and bad floods and stuff? It's small stuff, but I'm still pretty useful.

[He doesn't mind being used as a human tool to yank doors off their hinges, or even to go and save someone's precious belongings. A good deed's a good deed.]

Why?

I think we're starting our team back up.

[He means the Young Avengers.]

And I've been kind of out of the loop.

Oh. So, uh, who's 'we', then? I might know a few of the members who're gonna be on your team. I feel like we all run into each other eventually.

[He hasn't quite cottoned onto the fact that he means the Young Avengers. He'd been familiar enough with Kate to have heard of the team, though he wasn't inclined to do any more than offer his occasional assistance.]

Young Avengers?

I thought-

Oh, yeah, I'm a member.

[A founding member, to be sure.]

Oh! Kate's team!

[Sorry, Billy. Kate was definitely the loudest among you, and she's the one who's really stuck in his mind. He rubs at his chin.]

Man, I was really sorry to see her go. It sucks when your friends get ported out, but, well... I'm sure she'd be glad to see you starting it back up again. You got many members yet?

Well, she was our leader, but it's not really her team.

[Just to be clear.]

We have some. Would you be interested?

Right, sorry!

[As for the invitation... Jaime smiles, a little apologetically.]

Thanks for the invite, but I'm not so sure about that right now. I'm... sort of part of another team. It's complicated.

[Which is to say, they don't do a lot of teamwork, and their numbers are incredibly sad. Nevertheless, he has an unspoken loyalty to Wally, and he won't go joining any team without him, or at least without talking to him.]

But if you guys ever need an assist, you got my number. I'll never mind helping out.

[He raises a fist, clearly for a fistbump. Bros, right?]

[He grins, and completes the sacred fistbump. Bros.]

Hey, one more thing before I get back to patrol -- d'you have a name? I mean, is there some codename you like to be called while you're doing the whole superhero thing, or...?

[He doesn't wear a mask, but a lot of people don't, and they go by codenames anyway. It's weird, but Jaime sure doesn't mind rolling with it.]

[He shrugs.]

My codename is Wiccan, if you like.

[People are pretty bad at calling him that, though.]

If I like? Then you must not be all that strict about it, huh? You never know with you guys who go without any masks at all.

[Wiccan's a pretty good name, anyway. Catchy. Jaime jumps off the ground on the balls of his feet and hovers in mid-air for a second.]
