[ Hiro is DEFINITELY not going to enjoy this. He was already sideeying the "gym clothes" comment - does he even have any gym clothes? no, he doesn't - so the outfit he actually shows up in is his rattiest t-shirt / hoodie / pants combination. Said hoodie is a bit too short for him (finally) and hella bloodstained. Probably best not to ask what happened to that.

He approaches reluctantly, eying the exercise equipment with nothing short of dismay. ]

So ... I'm gonna practice controlling these with my powers, right?

[Jaime laughs, and reaches out to clap his hand on Hiro's shoulder. The way he laughs suggests that Hiro's in for a treat -- or more accurately, that Hiro's about to enter Jaime's idea of Superhero Boot Camp. He's gotten training from Robin, Kaidan, and Peacemaker already, which gives him a pretty good idea of how to handle this. He may be new at treating others, but he himself had entered the long, arduous process of getting into shape.]

Just remember you signed up for this. I'm gonna lay it out for you, okay? You never know when we won't have our powers or our tech, which means that you're gonna get fit. Look at it this way: you might wind up impressing Ellie once I'm through with you.

[Jaime hasn't exactly impressed Traci with his physical prowess, but that's different. Traci's in the cape community, which means she's used to men of a larger stature, with visible abs.

Stupid abs.]

First we're gonna get you on the weights so you actually have something to put behind your punches. Then we're gonna get you on the treadmill to work on your cardio so you can book it if that's not enough. Then we're gonna work on sparring. How's that sound?

[ He does brighten at the thought of impressing Ellie does make him brighten. All that radio silence is desperately worrying ... But if he hops in the network, he can still find her comm, so he knows she's still here. (Just texting her like an adult hasn't quite worked its way past his awkward teenagerness just yet.)

But the rest of that ... It sounds suspiciously like a lot of work just to get to something cool. ]

How long is it gonna take?

[Oh. Oh, no. Hiro thinks it ends. Jaime can't help but laugh a little bit, rubbing at the back of his neck.]

Uh, forever? C'mon, Hiro, think for a second. You don't just wake up one day with muscles and go, oh, okay, I'm fit now. I can stop going to the gym forever. You gotta keep working at it for as long as you wanna stay fit.

That's how people get old and fat.

[microbrobotics]

Being old and fat is sounding better all the time.

[ He eyes the machines reluctantly, unsure where to even begin. ]

Old and fat means retired, buddy. C'mon, we're gonna start easy. A little treadmill, a few weights, and then we'll hit the mat.

[He walks over to the treadmill and thumps one hand on the handlebar.]

Hop on! Once you start doing this one your own a little more, you can go ahead and run outside, but this'll make for a good start.

I wish I'd brought my MP3 player. Or my tablet. Or ...

[ Reluctantly, he hops on the treadmill. This is going to be fun. ]

Just play it on youtube or whatever through your phone. I know you wouldn't be showing up here without it. Or you could just listen to... whatever it is that's playing in here?

[He leans over the front of the treadmill with a little grin, turning it on and toggling with a few of its settings.]

Theeeere we go. Prepare to be bored for a little while. You go slow at first to get warmed up, but then it'll start speeding up. I'm gonna keep on turning it up this first time to see where you're already at, but you can use one of the presets every other time.

Prepared to be bored forever, you mean ...

[ He'll whine less eventually, really. For now he hops up on the treadmill warily, like it's going to just snap on without him touching the buttons. ]

Okay, let's do this. I bet I'm pretty fast.

We'll see about that.

[For the first couple of minutes, it is boring. He starts Hiro up slow until he's certain that he's warmed up - and if Hiro protests, he'll get an unsatisfying response of, it's important to get warmed up so you don't hurt yourself in return - but after that first little while, he starts to pump up the speed. He does it two at a time, standing back each time to see how Hiro does before increasing the speed any more.

The goal here is to see what Hiro can't do.]

Khaji, [he says, a little absently as he works,] Do me a favour and monitor his heartbeat? Thanks.

[He jacks up the speed a couple more levels, and looks at Hiro properly.] How's this speed?

He can - do that?

[ Now he's starting to huff and puff a bit, his gait getting clumsy as he struggles to keep up. Just - a little faster - ]

I-I'm fine. Totally fine.

[ Except in the next split second he trips, nearly landing flat on his face. Fortunately(?) he catches himself on the handlebars and ends up smacking the console instead. Utter grace. ]

[Jaime bursts out laughing.

Should he, as Hiro's new personal trainer, be laughing at his distress? Probably not. Does he do it anyway? Heck yes. It's too familiar to what Jaime himself has done in the past for him not to get some sympathetic glee out of it, but at least he leans forward to bring the treadmill down to a much more manageable speed.]

Sorry, sorry! [He doesn't sound that sorry.] I think we've found your limit, though. Honestly, most of your running is gonna be on endurance, not sprinting, but...

[He wanted to see how fast Hiro could go!]

Just five more minutes, and we'll move onto the weights.

[microbrobotics]

[ Hiro just pouts for a moment, rubbing at his face. Stupid treadmill. Stupid exercise. ]

H-how long have I run so far? Wait, how long are we doing weights too?

[khajidont]

Ehh... maybe twenty minutes or so? Not that long, honestly; you'll wanna do it for a lot longer if you want to get your endurance up. We're gonna do weights for longer, though, just so I can show you all the different exercises.

[He jerks his thumb towards all of the machines, lurking in wait to wreak havoc on Hiro's muscles.]

Unless you'd rather save those for next time and skip straight to the sparring?

[microbrobotics]

[ He's pretty tempted by it. No, scratch that, he's severely tempted. And exhausted, without even getting to the fun parts ... ]

Next time, please. I wanna do at least one thing that's actually cool today.

Okay, fine. But you have to promise me that you'll get your mind in the game for next time! C'mon, let's grab one of the rooms before someone else does.

[Jaime picks up the backpack he had brought with him and slings it over one shoulder before gesturing for Hiro to follow him. Once they close the door, he proceeds to take out folded up prints of the human body from out of his backpack and starts to clip them to the wall.

Peacemaker never did it like this with him, but Jaime's always had a slightly more scientific brain than Peacemaker, whose major method of defeating something was to punch it or shoot it.]
