Well, then, take a card. [Jaime hands one of the businesscards over which is, predictably, stamped with the garage's logo, phone number and address.]

Everyone who works here is pretty quiet, so if you like a lot of noise around you while you work, you might not wanna apply, but... I like it. It's kind of peaceful. You still gotta deal with customers sometimes, but not as much as when you're working retail.

That sounds perfect. What are the hours?

[ Since, you know, sometimes they just sort of ignore his requests not to work at a certain timeslot. Ugh overnight stocking. ]

Normal? Officially, we open around 8:30 and close around 5, but sometimes we stay a little later, or come a little earlier. It usually depends on how backed up we are, but that happened at my Dad's garage too.

[He rests his elbows on the table, propping his chin up on the heel of his hand. He got lucky, working in garages all his life; no matter what, he feels like he's at home.]

But they've been pretty good with me. Even if I wanna leave a little early to catch a date, they say okay so long as I make it up the next morning.

Do you need my... resume?

[ 'Cause like, he'd have to type one up and also he's really just good at assassination, and multilingualism. ]

Um... well, I mean, I guess it wouldn't hurt. We're kind of in a weird place with resumes, though, aren't we? It's not like we have proof for anything that we've done -- which was fine for me, not so fine for the, like, savant fourteen year olds.

[Stupid geniuses and their stupid, high-paying jobs.]

What did you do back home?

[ Uhhhh... uhhh ]

I worked in an intelligence agency.

[ Like, he was technically employed by the CIA. ]

[Jaime can't help but raise a brow. Not out of disbelief - he's heard weirder - but out of his new choice in occupation.]

A garage seems a little outside your paygrade, then.

[ Hmmm... Maybe if he tries: ]

I can lift a few tons of metal.

[ But um yes, that is the only job he can put on a resume anyway. Besides retail. ]

...definitely a perk at a garage. So, what do you have, anyway? Superstrength? Power to make stuff weightless?

[He hasn't quite drawn the connection that Erik may only be talking about metal, but he's content enough to speculate. The nice thing about being here for some is probably the fact that any and all superpowers tend to be treated with the same blase nature that's usually reserved for discussing eye colour unless their power is well and truly outlandish.]

[ That is rather nice; Erik enjoys that a lot. He could get used to it. ]

A magnet, actually. Very useful for garages.

What's yours?

Oh, sweet. Did the porter give it to you? [He thinks, immediately, of Gogo. Her power went a little haywire, she knows, but she couldn't help it. And besides, even some pretty destructive powers are still interesting, both in concept and in execution. Jaime just prefers it when they're not actively killing anyone.

And as for his power... Jaime, of course, lies.]

Mine's boring, [he says smoothly, wrinkling his nose like it bothers him.] I can do, uh, body scans? Like, I can see if someone's gonna get diabetes, or if they're pregnant, or what percentage of their body is fat. Stuff like that.

Wouldn't you be more useful at a hospital?

[ Like maybe mechanics is his passion but... he should at least volunteer or something. And that must get exhausting, but then again, Erik thinks there are a couple powers he knows of that would get tiresome. ]

And no. I've had this power since I was a boy.

Only if people wanted me to do general bodyscans all day long. It's not really something I've ever wanted to do.

[Hospital work is his mom's domain, and when he spends his nights saving lives one way, he doesn't want to spend his days telling people about their various maladies. It would get draining on the soul quick. Medicine's never been his calling.]

But at least you got plenty of time to get used to it! It's sort of weird for a lot of people to come here and then suddenly it's like, surprise! You're a metahuman now!

At the very least, here, there's a support group.

[ Of. Like. Everyone else. That would've been nice as a kid. ]

I would've hoped at home to create a community like the one we have here.
