During the days since the last Swearing In ceremony – or disaster, whichever you prefer – Ed and Winry had mostly stuck around the house. Winry kept a close eye on Ed, not wanting him to be alone after everything that happened that night, and everything else, leading up to that night.
She hated that Ed had been subjecting himself to whatever Mr. Crane had been doing – Ed, not surprisingly, wasn’t exactly forthcoming about anything except for knowing the man. It left Winry with a lot of unanswered questions. Back home, she’d grown more or less accustomed to those questions being unanswered but in Briggs, Ed had started telling her things. Why he felt he needed to hide things from her again, Winry didn’t understand. It frustrated her that they’d taken steps forward in their friendship only to fall back to this web of secrets. Yelling at him probably wouldn’t work (it hadn’t in the past, after all).
She also hated that after all this time, they had a roommate who had to deal with the pair of them not talking to each other, not to mention the whole aftermath of the Swearing In ceremony. No one deserved roommates who spoke to each other in monosyllables if they spoke at all. And this one was a kid – probably Hiro’s age but without any siblings or friends from his world. She still wanted to move, but could they in good conscience and leave Max to any fall out from someone looking for them? Maybe this house should just be razed.
Winry sighed. This wasn’t turning out to be a good set of days.
