WHO: Junseo and Touka
WHERE: A mall. Somewhere.
WHEN: Today!
WHAT: Junseo literally running into Touka after he's gotten himself...lost
WARNINGS:Height difference of the century NO, probably none.
[Going to the mall for a day to herself had SOUNDED like a good idea. Getting some time to herself away from Kaneki, and away from her asshole cat was definitely part of the appeal. Because as much as she’s gotten used to hanging around Kaneki in these past few months? Living with him is still…well. It’s an experience. Let’s just say she needs a break every now and then.
But aimless window shopping in a bunch of stores is only gonna keep her occupied for so long. It doesn’t help that this mall has a really weird selection of shops. Clothes stores that’re somewhere between “way above her pay grade” or just “trying too hard” in one way or another. There’re some weird nick-knack shops and a small bookstore, but nothing that’s really caught her eye.
Hell, the food court’s probably the biggest section of the whole place…Lot of good that does her.
But by far the worst part of this whole trip is the goddamn public restroom she’s in now. It’s not like she’s expecting a bathroom in a mall to be pristine or anything, but damn. What is wrong with these people? LEARN TO CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF?
Pretty much the instant Touka’s done drying her hands off, she turns to speed walk towards the door. Get her out of this place please.]

Mostly anxiety makes people feel queasy. Mostly being queasy makes most people not want to each. Not Junseo, oh no, something feels off with his stomach so clearly the only solution is to put more on it. Nevermind the possibility he could throw it all up.
So he decided to look up a mall on the new phone (communicator) they gave him, and while it didn't take long to figure out how to use the basic functions of the new phone (... communicator), he isn't all that great at directions or reading maps.
Actually, scratch that. He's pretty solid at reading maps, and decent at directions, what he isn't good at is not second guessing himself, and paying attention to his surroundings. He's smack dab in the middle of the mall that he meant to go to, but he hasn't noticed a goddamn thing because he's got his eyes glued to the screen of his phone (communicator!!!).
He glances up only briefly to catch sight of the bathrooms, and having had to piss for a good fifteen minutes now, decides he might as well take a momentary break before he gets back to trying to find the mall. You know... the one he's already currently in.
Here's another problem with staring intently at your phone, and not really observing the world around him. Sometimes you don't look closely enough at things, and you don't walk towards the right bathroom. Like right now, how Junseo is heading directly for the women's bathroom, head still down, unaware of the social faux pas he's speeding towards. ]

Imagine a head-on collision with one car going full speed into another that's toodling around on the wrong side of the road. Except, you know, with people instead of cars. And this guy is tall. Like, absurdly tall to a point where she's actually a bit dazed for a few seconds. In fact, it'd probably be more like a car crashing into a truck with their size difference.
Even better? The impact makes her drop the few bags out of her hand- the contents falling everywhere onto the ground around them. Which...might not be that big of a deal, except it makes her drop her travel mug too. That was still half-full of hot coffee. And has now spilled onto her pants.
How's she even supposed to react to that? By glaring up at him with a look that says "you'd better have a good explanation", that's how. She doesn't even bother moving down to pick up her stuff.]
Hey buddy. What'dya think you're doing?
[There're other people nearby who all turned to stare at them the second she dropped her shit on the ground. Like that weird moment in a school cafeteria if someone breaks a plate and it goes dead silent for half a second.
Whatever. They can stare.]
no subject
He looks a little alarmed by her outburst. He looks even more alarmed when he glances around and for once takes enough note of his surroundings to realize that people are looking at them making a scene. Swallowing audibly and looking back at her like a deer caught in the headlight of those cars or trucks or whatever vehicle of your choice used in the metaphor, he scrambles to try to find an answer for a really simple question. ]
Going to the bathroom?
[ He's framing it like a question himself, like suddenly he's not so sure that's what he was doing. Like he was pretty sure he was going to the bathroom before, but now he has doubts, because she seems so angry at him.
She's probably angry because of the coffee, isn't she? A good fifteen seconds later it finally clicks into place that making someone spill coffee all over themselves in a thing that most people don't like, and might actually be why she's grumpy.
He still hasn't seemed to realize that the door with the figure in a skirt is not meant for his kind, even though those signs are pretty universal, and he knows what they mean. He just hasn't really looked at it that hard. He also hasn't stopped to consider that a girl just came out of the bathroom he was headed towards, which is a pretty big glaring sign that maybe that isn't the bathroom he needs. Should be a dead giveaway, but hasn't occurred to him at all yet.
So instead of apologizing for any bathroom related mishap that almost went down, he'll just drop down onto his knees and start to scramble to pick up her things.
If he picks them up she'll look less like she wants to kill him, right? ]
no subject
Touka, on the other hand, is definitely still staring at him. The whole "deer in the headlights" look isn't doing the guy any favors, because it's just making him seem guilty as fuck.
The tone in his voice throws her off though, since he actually sounds pretty...lost. It's enough to edge at least some of the initial anger out of her system, but she's still far from looking thrilled. Really though- what is there to be confused about? That he saw a girl coming out of the girl's bathroom??
Touka raises an eyebrow at him. The only eyebrow that's visible. It probably doesn't have the same effect that it would if you could see both.]
Well, I'll give you this. You've got some guts to be pulling a stunt like that in the middle of the day. In the middle of a mall. With people everywhere.
[She crosses her arms and tilts her head to look at the coffee stains...and after a pause, glancing back towards the bathroom. Not exactly jumping for joy at the idea of going back there to wash up.]
You didn't think anyone would notice? [It's not like he was being discreet.]
no subject
He'll even snatch up her mostly empty travel mug and hold it up to her, all while staying kneeling so she doesn't have to look up at him anymore. ... They're almost at eye level like this.
Which makes it all the easier to see his face and see how downright lost he really looks. ]
Notice me going to the bathroom?
[ ????? ]
no subject
Really though, is this guy serious?? It's kind of hard to tell. In fact, Touka looks back over her shoulder for half a second to make sure there's actually a sign on the bathroom door.
No surprise that there is, in fact, one there. And there's a good bit of space between this door and the men's one too, so??]
To the girl's bathroom?
[Less anger in the question, and more confusion for herself.
He really does seem lost, and Touka usually has a pretty good bullshit detector. At least he didn't brush her off and actually stayed around to pick up her things. She takes the mug from him, then leans to the side so he can get a better look at the door.]
no subject
It's about the only thing easy in this conversation though. Trying to get anything through that thick skull of Junseo's is some sort of nightmare, and even after she says the words "girl's bathroom" specifically, he'll be staring at the door for a good ten seconds in confused silence before he actually reacts. ]
That's the girl's bathroom!
[ Yes, Junseo, she just told you that. He does sound genuinely shocked by this fact. Like it never occurred to him until JUST THEN that this wasn't the right bathroom.
So hey, if it makes Touka feel better he's not a pervert. Not like this at least. ]
no subject
Sensing possible...oncoming headache. Did he just ignore her, or-?
...No. No, probably not. There is a sudden overwhelming urge to bury her face in one of her hands, but she manages to hold back. AT THE VERY LEAST, she can't even bring herself to feel mad anymore. (Maybe a liiiiittle for the spilled coffee, though.) But, yeah. Not the kind of pervert who waltzes into girl's bathrooms? Well, that's good at least. A few points in his favor.]
Uh...yeah. Yeah, it is.
[She taps his shoulder to get his attention again, then points over towards the door down to the left a bit.]
The one you're looking for's over there. [In fact, let's make there's no way he can go to the wrong one again. She gathers up the rest of her things and starts walking over to it and motioning for him to follow.] Right here.
no subject
For the time being he's also sticking to Touka, hoping up off the ground and trotting to catch up with her so he can follow behind at an uncomfortably close distance. ]
Why are they so far apart from each other?
[ They're not that far apart, it's so easy to spot the other bathroom that it isn't funny. ]
no subject
Either way, Touka still prefers dealing with a guy like this than one who WOULD'VE gone there on purpose.
Even though he is looming over her right now...Does he have to walk so close?? His shadow is...literally overshadowing her right now (exaggerating again, BUT STILL). Definitely feeling the start of a headache.]
It's- [It's right there is what it is.
Fighting back an exasperated sigh here.] It's just got a bit more space since there're lots of stalls. So more people can use them.
[And they're already here. Touka looks from Junseo to the door and then back to Junseo again. Enough to ask "aren't you going in?"]
no subject
Just like he has to walk right next to her like this, just in case she gets too far away from him. It could happen! What if he loses her on their way to the boys' bathroom? Or what if he just doesn't have a good concept of personal space? That one is probably a little more likely.
He nods at her comment though, like it makes so much sense, and now he's entirely appeased with that answer.
He stops when she does though, and stares back at her, making no move to go into the bathroom despite the fact that this was what he was trying to do in the first place. After a few seconds tick by he does suddenly look like he's hit with some thought, but instead of trotting along his way he pulls out his phone and shoves it into her face, too close to be able to actually see anything. ]
I'm looking for this mall. Do you know where I could find it?
[ And if she has a chance to get that screen far enough away to actually read it, she should be able to make out the words on the phone.
The same words that are on a giant sign just a little ways off behind Junseo. In lit up letters. That he somehow failed to notice before, despite the fact that he would have been facing them earlier. ]
no subject
Touka scowls as she shoves his phone back out of her face. Forget a "good concept" of personal space- does he know what it IS? Even people she's known for years don't get up in her business like this.
As soon as he'd said the word "mall", she'd had a sinking feeling in her stomach. Somehow...it's not hard to guess what's coming next. But once the phone's at a decent enough distance to read, she still gives the screen a long hard look- trying to decide if there's any way he actually could've missed the sign.
Not for the first time, she's thinking that this can't be real. This absolutely has to be a joke or...or some dumb reality tv show BS where they film random people for reactions. Because there've been too many things in the span of five minutes that've made her want to smack her forehead.
She can only bring herself to answer in one way. By walking up to Junseo, turning him around and clapping a hand on his back. Then pointing right towards the sign. She even stands on her toes to make sure they're both looking in the same direction. And if he's not, she'll give his head a bit of a nudge.] Look familiar?
no subject
Oh...
The nudge seems to do it. Junseo's head immediately jerks down to look at his phone before snapping back up.
That is definitely the same name as the mall he was asking about. But how can that possibly be?! They're already inside a--
.... Oh...
He's quiet for a long few seconds, biting the tip of his tongue as he tries and fails to think up a good response to this. ]
Uh... yeah. Thank you.
[ He's trying to sound chipper right now, but the defeated tone makes it pretty clear he's not exactly overwhelmed to have found what he was looking for like this. ]
no subject
siiiiiiiigh
....
Still, that defeated tone makes her feel a little guilty. There's a pretty good chance that this guy's a new import- it's about the right time of the month. And everything can be pretty damn overwhelming when you're new, even if you've got a friend helping you out like she'd had. So...]
Hey...listen- you're new here, right? Where're you trying to go in the mall?
[She might end up regretting this.]
I've been shopping around this place too, so. I could show you around if you want. [She scratches the back of her head a little awkwardly.] You know. Make sure you don't end up in the wrong place again.
no subject
A horrific thought considering his job involves him traveling around the world and finding specific important people in their specific important locations. Though to be fair they mostly find him, and that seems to work out just fine.
It's almost like the embarrassment of not realizing he was in the location he wanted to be in is immediately forgotten and he's shoving his phone in his pocket. ]
Yeah! I want that!
[ Pausing for a second. ]
Wait! I have to pee first.
[ And before she can even get another word out, he's dodging into the boy's bathroom. No chance to tell him what direction to go in, or figure out what he even wanted.
Poor Touka. What did she agree to? ]
no subject
At least...he doesn't seem too upset anymore. Or at all. Touka doesn't even bother hiding her "what the hell?" expression because he's already turned to move towards the bathroom.]
Hey- I'm going to go wash up! [Because she is NOT wandering around this mall for another hour with coffee stained all over her.
Hopefully he actually heard that, and won't go running of to wreak havoc on some other bathroom around the mall. She moves back into the nasty bathroom and makes quick work of cleaning the coffee off anyway...just to be on the safe side.]
no subject
Sadly her words are entirely lost on him, so by the time he finishes up taking a leak (he did not wash his hands... he's about to go eat, and did not wash his hands. Unpleasant) and stumbles out of the bathroom, he's a little lost on where she wandered off to.
Wasn't she going to show him around? Why would she leave him?
Making a quiet whining sound in the back of his throat, that isn't quite quiet enough to not get him a strange look from an older couple passing by, Junseo stands on the balls of his feet for a little more leverage so he can peer into the crowds of people slowly milling around the area. ]
no subject
She starts walking up to Junseo and- oh my god she was literally gone for TWO MINUTES, WHY IS HE WHINING.]
Not looking for me, are ya? [Because, surprise! She's actually still here...and somehow did not spontaneously decide to ditch him. Maybe try listening when people are talking next time. Just don't let her know you didn't wash you hands, Junseo. Or she might actually ditch you. At the very least, it wouldn't go over very well.]
Or did you pick somewhere to go? [Arms folded, she moves closer and starts scanning the nearby shops.]
no subject
By standing there whining until she came up behind him apparently. He starts slightly before twisting around to look at her, looking shocked for a moment before the relief floods in.
Not ditched after all! It honestly wouldn't be the first time someone had purposely left him in a crowded place like this, so there's some basis in his concern. Not a lot, she told him where she was going, but still some... ]
Uhm... no.
[ She asked two questions, he's not sure what one to answer, so he just goes for the second one and lets the first one drop. ]
Where is something that you can get lots of food really fast here?
no subject
Well. As long as he's going to be the one doing all the eating.
She gives a quick eyeroll (mostly to herself) and starts moving ahead- motioning for him to follow with a quick wave of her hand.]
You didn't just come for the food, did you? Because they've got fast food places pretty much everywhere.
[Not like there's anything special about mall-food.
She moves at a relatively fast pace- knowing they're not too far from the spot. The crowds make it a little more annoying to navigate though, since there's inevitably going to be a cluster of people blocking the way forward.]
no subject
[ Because it's inside? But the weather outside is fantastic today, so how does Junseo's comment even begin to make sense? It's simple, really. He wants to be inside when it gets dark, because despite the fact that they gave him a housing assignment he hasn't even started to look at any of the papers in the folder they handed him. He doesn't know where his house is. He's not even entirely aware of the fact that he has a house at all. He just knows that he did the sleeping outdoors on the street thing once, and he doesn't want to do it ever again.
So inside a mall seems good! If he can tuck himself away somewhere dark when it's about to close up he can probably spend the whole night sleeping there without security even noticing him.
Right now though he's hungry, and the mall was his first choice because there were lots of things to eat there. The thought about having a place to sleep came later when he was on his way there, and he was very (sadly) proud of himself for coming up with that idea. He shouldn't be, but he was.
And to think, he wouldn't even have to have this worry if he'd just look at the important documents people handed him. ]
I feel like im going to be using this icon a lot with him
Whatever. He definitely could've made worse requests than asking to find the food court. Too bad Touka doesn't know he's looking for a place to sleep, or she'd at least point him in the right direction. But it'd definitely earn him a few more weird looks. Not that he isn't getting plenty already.]
Uh...yeah. I guess it is.
[There's definitely a lot to choose from here, she'll give him that. The food court's pretty big with a lot of different types of food. And once they get closer, the smells hit her all at once.
Disgusting. What is it about fast food? She wrinkles her nose a bit but otherwise just looks a "regular" amount of cranky. After another minute or so of walking, the stores come into view and Touka stands to the side to let him pick where to go.]
Well? Looking for something in particular? [He should be able to find something he likes here. Hopefully.]
YEAH... probably
Or at least the plan he thought of first, which isn't always the best. Honestly, usually his first plans are pretty shit. Then again, his later plans are usually just as shit, because he doesn't tend to think on these kind of things for long. He doesn't like it, it's stressful and he'd much rather just go with his first thought.
As bad as his ability to formulate plans are, his ability to pay attention to the world around him is just as bad. So Touka's disgust with the smell of food doesn't get misinterpreted by him, because it doesn't even get recognized.
He looks excited though, turning this way and that looking at all the shops they have to choose from. ]
Uh-uh. Whatever is cheapest.
no subject
Even if you picked the cheapest, it'd only save you a few dollars. Might as well just get what you want. [Not that it really matters to someone who doesn't know what any of these things taste like.
Anyway. Time to get out of here before she gets wrangled into faking a meal. Tossing her bags over her shoulder, she starts walking towards the tables clustered in the center of the big room.]
I already ate earlier, so I'll just grab us some seats. [Please tell her he doesn't need hand-holding to pick out his own food.]
no subject
[ That isn't actually true. Chances are pretty high that any food that looks like it's going to be on the healthier side? He probably won't be eating it. Oily, greasy, junky foods only thanks. Especially without Jinseok there to regulate his diet for him.
He nods absentmindedly at her comment, and takes off towards the nearest looking chicken place he spots. Apparently that's deemed good enough for him, because he doesn't seem to be looking around all the other options he claimed he wanted to have.
He literally could have gotten chicken almost anywhere... ]
no subject
She takes the opportunity to roll her eyes, because it just feels like the appropriate response. Whatever. She's not in a place to criticize. Who knows what chicken tastes like? Not her. Maybe it's worth getting all the time. Not like any of the other food places are particularly...exotic.
And while he's ordering, she goes off to find a table. It takes a few minutes, since it's just about lunch time and the food court's swarmed with people. Eventually though, she finds an empty spot by the window...and tucked next to a few "hedge animal" decorations.
Malls have the weirdest shit on display.
It's a bit "far away" from the store he's visiting, but the pickings are slim. So tough luck. She hasn't left the food court at least, so he should find his way there sooner or later. In the mean time, she'll start taking a few of her things out of the bags- holding up a dress or two and laying them on her lap.]
no subject
He's not good at a lot of things, but he does eat well if nothing else. Well in the sense that he eats a lot, not that he actually eats healthily, if the fact that he gets himself a giant bucket of fried chicken and nothing else is anything to go by.
Still, he looks so happy with himself as he trots around the food court looking for Touka. It takes him a good five minutes for something that should maybe taken him half a minute tops, but he does finally spot her to the side and plops his giant thing of chicken down on the table in front of her. ]
Do you want some, noona?
[ Having helped him out she's already earning herself this title whether she wants it or not. ]
no subject
Even so, it's still nice of him. Not many people actually offer to share their food with her...so she always appreciates it, even if she can't actually enjoy it. But she shakes her head "no" at his question and waves a hand at the same time to emphasize the point. He can enjoy that all by himself.]
Ah..."Noona"?
[It's not like they'd actually introduced themselves yet, or anything. But...why.]
no subject
Actually the human flesh one isn't really the first thing he'd jump to... ever.
He nods his head at her question though, like it's obvious, then stops.
Was he being too familiar? Does she not like it? He should call her by her name instead--
Only he doesn't know what it is. So he sits up straight, and talking with a mouth full of chicken bows his head to her a little. ]
Jang Junseo.
[ Like that really answers her question as to what noona means. ]
no subject
The name hadn't made her upset though. Mostly because she's not sure what it means...But when Junseo says his own name, she blinks at him a few times- if that's what he'd meant? and gives a little nod in return.]
Um...Touka Kirishima. [It doesn't seem like he was dodging the question? So-]
But- Noona? What's...it mean?
no subject
Fake-eating may not ever be a thing she's got to do around him.
Getting used to conversations like this though? She will. Junseo stares back blankly at her, before realizing somehow she didn't understand him.
Which doesn't make a lot of sense to him, because as far as he's aware they're both speaking Korean right now.
They're not, but he really didn't read anything that was given to him when he first came here, and didn't even listen to the woman's explanation of the place.
So he tries hard to answer this question in English. ]
Uh... "sister"?
[ Though it's not really limited to your own sister. ]
no subject
The sudden english earns him a funny look...because why? But she decides pretty quickly not to linger on it. Probably for the best.
This isn't the first time someone else's called her "sister" though. Well, Hinami always calls her "onee-chan", at least. But she's also known Hinami way, way longer. And that's an easy accomplishment, considering Touka's only JUST met this guy.]
Why- [She cuts off, looking a little bit...embarrassed?]
What for?
no subject
The embarrassment doesn't even register on Junseo though. He's never been good at reading moods or emotions, and he's not about to start now when he's still reeling from the sudden changes that have been thrust upon him.
So he just shrugs casually at her question. ]
Uhm... you answered my questions?
[ It is pretty soon for him to be giving her that title though, considering they really did just meet. She's not the first noona to get noona'd by him after just having met him though. ]
no subject
Anyway, it's just as well that he doesn't recognize the embarrassment...it saves her the trouble of getting even more embarrassed. Except that's happening anyway, because she's not really sure what to say. She doesn't really mind it, at least?
But his answer makes a small smile quirk in the corner of her mouth too.]
Just for answering a few questions? You must have a lot of noonas.
no subject
He has to think about that for a moment, before slowly shaking his head in response to her comment. ]
Not really... I can't think of any.
[ Not a lot of women talk to him all that often. Certainly none of them talk to him more than once. The only one that did is long dead now. ]
no subject
Maybe he doesn't get help all that often? Are people not usually willing to?
Ugh...why does she feel guilty. She didn't do anything! AND YET...]
W-well...you can call me that. I don't mind.
[Even though she has no idea if they'll be seeing each other again either. At this point in time, it's hard to say...And Touka's not the type to go rushing off to talk to every new acquaintance she makes. But if he's an Import, there's a pretty good chance of them meeting again.]
no subject
He beams at her though at the response, it wasn't like he was really going to stop when he was talking about her to other people. And if he ever does manage to find Jinseok he'll definitely make sure to mention her at least once.
Only by noona, with a chance he forgot her real name...
Still smiling he goes back to messily eating chicken. Smiles are the same thing as actual verbal replies, right? ... No? ]
no subject
She gives him a small smile in return when he looks back up from eating the chicken- seeming slightly more comfortable than she has this whole time. Things are going surprisingly well, considering how their meeting had started off.
Touka crosses her arms and leans back in her chair.]
Let me know when you're ready. I'll show you wherever else you need to go too.
no subject
Mostly because he doesn't know what kind of stores he wants right now.
Still, he doesn't want to disappoint Touka by rejecting her offer, so he nods in agreement as he reaches for more chicken. It's like he's determined to eat this massive amount of food all on his own.
... He just might be too. ]
