i can't be assed for witty log text right now
WHO: Kotetsu and Godot
WHERE: A coffee shop!
WHEN: April 7
WHAT: Coffee metaphors and confused tigers.
WARNINGS: nope.
[Kotetsu's no coffee junkie like certain people in the city, but he's no stranger to getting a caffeinated boost to his day, either. He drops into a coffee shop sometime in the late afternoon/early evening, intending to grab a cup on his way home.
Coincidentally, he happens to run into a certain Toasterface while waiting in line, and recognizes him as that one dude who was really intense about coffee.]
Hey, I must've lucked out choosing this place, if you're here.

Hey, I must've lucked out choosing this place, if you're here.

That remains to be seen. They said it'd be just a minute.
[On cue, a harried-looking young man appears from the back room, holding a small paper cup of ground coffee. He offers it up to Godot as though he's afraid he'll have his arm taken off if it's extended an inch too far. Then he waits tensely as the man holds it up to his nose, sniffs it, then tilts the cup back to take a taste of the grounds.
Three seconds later, Godot grins.]
Much better. Still a little dry, but you turned down the heat just like I said. I'll take two pots.
[The young man looks immensely relieved, rushing back to prepare the percolators to brew.
Now Godot can talk, turning around to face Kotetsu.]
They've been burning the house blend roast the past four days I've been here. I had to make sure they took my advice.

Instead of just finding another coffee shop?
[It's not that he's judging you, exactly. Except that he's totally judging you. And oh hey look, he's reached the front of the line. Kotetsu picks the simplest thing he can think of from the menu, because he actually doesn't give any fucks about coffee as long as it is some form of potable. Harried barista gets a fairly generous tip for his trouble, as well.]
no subject
[He waits at the counter as Kotetsu finishes his transaction, and right about then the two pots of coffee are done. He takes both as well as a pair of clean mugs, trading them for the payment... and a tip. He's not unreasonable, see.
With all that in hand he goes looking for a table.]
Are you just passing through, amigo, or looking for somewhere to sit?
no subject
[At the question, he debates a moment. He was just passing through, but it's not as if he has anything to do when he gets home. So he might as well get to know the weird coffee guy.]
Eh, why not.
[With a shrug, he joins Godot in looking for a table.]
no subject
[They settle on a table close to the window, where Godot sets down both of his pots of coffee and sits down in one of the chairs.]
How are you settling in, Mr. Kaburagi?
no subject
You ever thought about starting your own coffee shop?
[Since it's clearly such a big deal to you and all. Kotetsu takes a seat across from Godot, sipping carefully at his single cup (it's still a little hot) before leaning back in his chair, pillowing his head in his arms.]
Eh, about as well as I can, under the circumstances. And you can call me Kotetsu, by the way. How about you?
no subject
[... arguably, being a lawyer already hasn't worked out for him. But hell, he can't seem to hang up his badge permanently.]
Kotetsu, then.
It's been strange, but one place is about the same as another to me these days.
no subject
[A vague shrug. He tilts his head a little at that last comment, though.]
You don't care about going home?
no subject
[Has he really never thought of that before?
He merely shakes his head at the question.]
There's nothing for me there. So this place is the same as that.
no subject
Nothing? What about family, or friends, or--your old job? Didn't they give you a different one here or something?
[He's a busybody, whoops.]
no subject
He just shakes his head and sips from his cup.]
None of those. My old job... [Well. That's a complicated story.] I wasn't all that interested in it, honestly.
So it makes little difference to me if I go back or not. I miss L.A., but there's nothing stopping me from visiting or moving back.
no subject
Would it be okay to ask why? [Beat] Er, why you didn't like your job before, not...the other stuff.
[Nosy as he might be, there are certain lines he doesn't consider himself to have the right to cross.]
no subject
I don't find I have much of a drive for it.
[Defense had been his passion, and it was one that Godot found he couldn't match. Prosecution seemed like the next most obvious choice... though he was almost entirely inspired by his urge to do battle with Phoenix Wright.
What else was there for him to do?]
What about you? What do you do?
no subject
Still, he's capable of taking a hint, and when the question is turned back on him, he gets the message about the topic being closed for discussion and backs off.]
You mean here, or back home?
no subject
At least someone knows when to shut it and change the subject. Good job, Kotetsu!]
Why not tell me about both?
no subject
The one I've got here's promoting registration. [You can see how very thrilled he looks about it. :V He huffs out a disgruntled sigh.]
They could'a at least waited till I agreed to register before shoving me into something like that.
Back home, it's basically what they're looking for here, with the whole registered hero deal. We worked with the government to help out during emergencies.
[Which he also does here (sort of, considering they don't have an actual system here), but well, that's Wild Tiger and he's Kotetsu right now.]
no subject
[Oh, now that's interesting. He looks suddenly quite intrigued.]
You mean you're one of those registered heroes where you come from?
no subject
Whether or not that's something you want to do with your life is your own decision. Really your own, unlike here.
no subject
[Even if he is registered.]
How annoyingly complex.
no subject
But there's still the pressure to register, and how you're pretty much on your own without it.
Who sucks? I SUCK
[Siiiiiiip.]
For some, that is not a choice at all. For others, life has left them slightly more flexible to persevere through hardship.
We all can make the choice serve the government in our own ways, without donning a super suit.
that's ok, i suck too
[For his part he's just sort of playing with his straw right now instead of drinking his drink himself.]
It'd be less obnoxious if registering was just about the hero/vigilante stuff and the benefits were more a 'hey sorry our freaky-ass machine kidnapped you outta your dimension' package for everyone than a bribe for working with 'em.
[Sigh.]
Even that I could deal with. I mean, it sucks, but I'm an adult, I can make my own choices and deal with the consequences. But then there are all those kids getting roped into all this, and what're they s'posed to do? It's not like they can put themselves through school and get a job without the government's money.
