They'd come from their homes to the military base in Cape Canaveral, and that was where they'd agreed upon meeting one another. The plan from thereon in was simple. (Maybe too simple to start with—Josuke had originally under planned, after all—but thanks to some helpful 'intervention' things were on course and running smoothly.) A hop, skip, and a jump away was the beach, but in order to be sure they were appropriately distanced from military property, those who were able and willing were to visit the garage and borrow vehicles that could be used to usher their small group a little ways down the coastline. And by the time they had all arrived at the designated location—an end of the beach decorated with bits of driftwood and only a very light dappling of footprints—the sky was already beginning to darken. The bands of color that had once streaked the horizon like the layers of a sedimentary rock were now fading to a beautiful blue-grey monochrome; the rippling waves looked less like glimmering silk and more like impenetrable velvet; and the sun was barely a glowing sliver, minutes away from disappearing entirely behind the skyline. It was cool, but not cold, and as the fire was struck, as it reached brightly skyward, flames dancing and crackling, warmth soon began to fan outward. Around the bonfire were blankets and towels for people to sit on. There were snacks of all kinds: marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers, chips, and hot dogs—and there were skewers with which to stab several of these foods. There was a volleyball, too, pairs of binoculars, someone's media player and headphones, and a small cooler full of drinks on ice: water, some selections of soda, and of course...the alcohol. In short, everything anyone calling themselves a 'teenager' might need to cut loose on a Saturday night. |

"Don't you? So a fair game then?" A laugh, and he'll do the same. One- two, still- laughing here and there. Three- four.
"Hor chubbeh buhhne."
no subject
Don't spoil the game this early on, Hisoka! Not unless you want to wear chewy gooeys.
Fifth marshmallow now. He attempts to say 'no' again, but this time it sounds a lot less intelligible. "Feh shubbeh buhee!"
He makes a gesture with both hands as if to say Forget rules, it's on, and reaches for marshmallow number six!
no subject
Please don't describe what chewy gooeys are to me ever. Or say it outloud because it may make Hisoka laugh even more.
"Feh shubbeh buhee!" He follows after, his eyes slim face- trying to smile but it's really not working out for him. Shouldn't he be drinking before this? This is so stupid but- rather fun.
Shit- takes his own six, giving a glance to the gesture before shoving that one in his mouth.
"Hikkhh huhhee unhee!"
no subject
Bounces it off Hisoka's forehead instead.
Which is both a great idea and a shitty one because it means almost laughing and losing his marshmallows, so in goes the new number six and seven just so he can keep what's already there from spewing out!
"Hikkhh ung fhehgn!"
no subject
"Hhrk-" A laugh that ends up being somewhat of a choke. You cheat.
no subject
Josuke, with cheeks puffed and full of overly soft and melty globs of sweetness, attempts to pry the marshmallow from his head...
To no avail.
"WHAGH GUH FUGG!"
Kicks sand at!! But you better believe that's just the distraction, because oh clown, he's pulling out Crazy Diamond for this! You got too close to his hair, this means war!
no subject
Crazy Diamond wha- he can't see shit and has no mind to use Gyo for it right now either. Just is sort of- laughing, and choking, and feeling his eyes start to water from the strain in his mouth.
no subject
It's cheap resorting to things like this, he knows it, but when you get too close to messing with a guy's prized do, you pretty well bring it upon yourself! So it's time for a hard lesson, Hisoka! In the form of a very pale blue and pink fist—
DORARA!
—smashing into that mouth of yours! Literally into, in fact. It'll feel kind of like a sudden pop, almost like maybe there should have been some pain but there isn't? If Hisoka's had any aches there lately, they'll ebb completely! But the real target? The marshmallows!
Which seem to react almost instantly. Saliva slipping back out of them one at a time, their shapes returning to normal as they seemingly squish and push around inside Hisoka's mouth with a life of their own!
Meanwhile, Josuke's picking up another marshmallow and pushing it into his mouth.
"Eaghff."
no subject
"Hrk--!" His jaw suddenly doesn't hurt which is- odd, but now his mouth is a LOT more wide and his eyes widen. The marshmallows back to their normal sizes and all the saliva seeping out, he can't stop himself from drooling and coughing, closing his eyes tight.
And yes- he- loses. Coughing and tugging out the marshmallows making it impossible to breathe for the time being only to see that they are- relatively dry...
And whole.
Slowly looks up to him.
Pouts. he doesn't really know how but-
"You cheated."
no subject
And when he can speak again? He says with a grin, "I'm not sure what you're talking about! Looks to me like you choked. Not my fault you...bit off more than you could chew!"
And besides, it's only cheating if you're caught.
no subject
Throws a marshmallow at.
Throws a few more.
Each one sticking to Josuke's front and not- falling off.
no subject
He swats at them as they come, but it's...not helping. Why isn't it helping! What the hell kind of crap is this!
"Hey, I said!! Quit that—Hisoka!"
Fine, you wanna play like that? Do you?? He's going for the bag! Try throwing marshmallows when you don't have any more left!
no subject
"Did you get hair gel anywhere else, by chance?" Whoa! Bag, no, balls back, holding the bag up in the air and away from him! Though- still sitting, so he supposes all he has to do is get on his knees- or stand, or something. But then things start to get a little awkward. Won't tickle him but you'll get up that close Josuke? Oh my~
no subject
The clown's slim-eyed stare is matched with a determined one of Josuke's own. He looks at Hisoka, then the bag of marshmallows all too quickly snatched out of his reach, then back at Hisoka.
Forget standing. Forget getting on his knees. Forget the marshmallows completely—why not—and go for broke! Better believe he'll get up close, this is personal. A large arm shooting out for Hisoka's neck! Put that clown in a headlock—sure, great idea! That's just what he'll do!
no subject
...
All right didn't expect that.
He is- definitely in this head lock now and despite a slightly annoyed expression for a few moments he smiles, glancing up, a hand braced on one of Josuke's before the other turns a hand, attaching Bungee Gum from Josuke's chip to- the ground, and activates, yanking his head down to the ground hard.
no subject
A. Thing.
Until he feels his face crash into the sand! Thanks, asshole!
Too bad he's not letting go, so you're going down with him!
no subject
no subject
"Guess I asked for that. But seriously! Sticking marshmallows to a guy? Not awesome."
Are they still stuck even? He's...checking. And ignoring a slightly sore jaw. At least the sand was kind of soft!
no subject
"And cheating is? Just what did you do?" A smirk, sitting with his hands up by his mouth, eyes sultry as they look up to Josuke. Yes, just what WAS that ability exactly? It- didn't quite make sense to him at all.
no subject
"Wasn't cheating, we never agreed on any rules!"
That's his story and he's sticking to it!
...but as for Hisoka's question...
"You unstick these and I'll tell you, how's that for a deal?"
no subject
Gestures to him, looking up with a bright smile.
"So?"
no subject
...punting them into the fire for good measure before pulling himself back into a proper sitting position. And throwing his chin into his hand, his eyes flicking in Hisoka's direction. Thoughtful.
He then says, "I can fix stuff." And, as if to prove a point, he polishes off the water in his bottle before holding one end to the fire. The plastic melts pretty quickly, but before the damage can get too bad, he puts the end in the sand.
Holding it up so Hisoka can see, the bottom of the bottle appears bubbled and charred, the plastic having curled in on itself, forming large holes in some spots.
If Hisoka decides to use Gyo...he might be able to see Josuke's Stand reach over his shoulder and run its hand through the bottle. For a second, it looks as though it might break apart further, but then...the plastic moves, bending and twisting on its own, reforming into its proper shape, bits that had dripped into the fire itself shooting back towards the bottle until—voila!!
It's whole again.
And Josuke tosses the empty bottle towards Hisoka to inspect for himself.
no subject
He WILL use Gyo this time, expecting it after all, and centers his Nen on his eyes, seeing the figure in full view finally. Almost feels silly not comparing it to Jonathan's vines... So they acted the same, the same sort of power from- their world. But in two very different forms an with drastically different abilities.
A punch and- the bottle's fixed. Hisoka's eyes go wide. That ability is useful and he's very much into knowing more. But part of him can't help but think- the ability is a sort of cop out. Something doesn't seem exactly- trained. More like it was given, almost like the powers the Porter bestowed.
He cocks his head, staring at the Stand, making it obvious he can see it before looking back to Josuke.
"Fix? Is it so simple? Those marshmallows weren't exactly 'broken', now were they?" Brows up. "Or I perhaps, restore is a word for it. Anything at all?" Catches the bottle, looking it over, sliding fingers over it, and glancing up to Josuke's Stand once again, meeting it's eyes.
no subject
No, it's not. Crazy Diamond moves, and the other man's eyes register the movement. Which is enough to startle Josuke into letting his Stand disappear again. 'Letting', as if it's not done deliberately so he doesn't have to deal too much with that strange fact. Or the attached thought - Jolyne probably reaming him out if she caught wind of this. And this time, he's kind of thinking he'd deserve it.
...not that it stops him from talking. Hisoka's odd, but he's not so bad. Right?
"Well, the marshmallows were 'breaking down'. I can spit you some science if you want." Somebody please, make him stop with the puns! "There's enzymes in your saliva and that breaks down food, so...technically I really was fixing them. But you can call it restoration if you want, too. In the end...it's all the same."
Josuke shrugs.
The ability isn't trained in the sense that Hisoka's thinking of, but...if he was curious enough to ask, Josuke would tell him more about how he had trained it. Or rather, trained himself to be able to use it. It was a flexible Stand ability, after all, best utilized by a creative mind. All the ways he's thought of how to 'fix' things since he was a kid and came into his power...well, he's lost count of them by now. Not that he was ever actually counting. But there were a lot!
In any case...he shakes his head after a moment. Eyes on the fire.
"Almost anything. For inanimate objects, as long as all the pieces still exist...I can put it together again. And as for people...as long as they're technically still alive, I can heal them."
Which spoke the obvious for him: that he couldn't bring back the dead.
no subject
A chuckle, sliding a hand up under his chin. "Bing bong- what I thought, 'fixing' more of a crude way of describing it then? You can do quite a bit with such an unspecific word." That's- really how the power appears anyway. As if the words 'you can fix things' were said, and all the possibilities with that were given to him. Rather than the other way around. How- silly, how impressive, and yet still not. Something still seems less- worked upon. Though he's unsure, still too much in unknown to him.
Then again yes- the potential there is still what keeps his interest. What Josuke can do now, only hints to what he could do later. With an ability that starts with 'fix things' and can literally be anything that stems from those words- the possibilities are quite expanse. It can be trained, learned, grown upon, just as his ability to flex and stretch himself given to him by the Porter. The potential is what has him staring like a wolf at the boy.
"How useful." A smile. It made sense then, why Chrollo had that meeting arranged. Of course the leader would want to take any ability made available. But ever since Josuke made it know that he was a healer- well, even more of a reason. And to know how extensive that power could be? Hisoka was even more excited for the Troupe Leader to have it.
A wider smile, one of his hands gripping a little tighter than necessary at his own thigh. But he's quiet about it. "I imagine you can do very much with something like that. And you're so young, Josuke." Eyes slim, lips curling. "I can't wait to see more of you here, not that I haven't been enjoying your company already."
