WHO: Kotetsu & Annie
WHERE: A Smoothie Place
WHEN: First week of January
WHAT: Wild Tiger keeps giving Annie gifts of giftcards to a smoothie place that she hasn't used yet; she breaks that trend. And meets Kotetsu.
WARNINGS: none
[ Annie stares up at the menu and wonders why the hell everything in the world has fifteen too many options. They're broken into sections here, so she looks for one that says "fruit and veggies" after spotting ice cream in half of them. She's not even sure what acai is, but it... probably is okay?
Even paying for this is weird. She looks at the gift card, at the register, at the gift card, then hands it over, looking faintly quizzical. The cashier seems unperturbed, running the gift card and reporting back what's left on it. Annie squints. There's still money on the damn thing? Yes, obviously, but she was kind of hoping the tiger guy was... not... spending guilt money on her. Or whatever it was.
Nngh. She really wished he hadn't sent anything for Christmas, either, having surrendered the pink animal thing to Rex. The dog's happy with the present. Annie took out the insides making sure it was okay and sewed it back up for him, so no beans are left inside, thankfully.
Now she gets to wait for whatever she ordered. Watching the making process is kind of fascinating; when did they get the juices into the big containers? Have they been there for days? The carrot juice and the orange juice is all freshly made, she just saw them do that. Magical smoothie place what are you? ]

Anyway, despite his claims to the contrary, it actually is rather warm in Heropa in the winter which means a smoothie really hits the spot in the peak afternoon hours. So he strolls on into the place and heads toward the line....just in time to watch her peering at her gift card in puzzlement. There's an odd sort of satisfaction in the realization that she's using them, despite their last conversation (with him as Tiger) not going particularly well.
He orders his own drink, something with mangoes and pineapple juice and vanilla yogurt, and once it's delivered, he falls into step beside Annie as she seeks out a table.]
Yo.
[Annie doesn't know him particularly well, but she's a friend of Barnaby's, which makes her by default someone to get to know.]

Sit, if you like.
no subject
It's Annie, right? You're a friend of- [don'tsayBunny] Barnaby's.

[ says someone who got him a birthday gift, yes, but she'd say more work acquaintances and comrades at times. ]
Kotetsu.
no subject
Whatever. He doesn't hang out with a lotta people, so it counts.
no subject
[ doesn't count... ]
no subject
Trust me, he likes you.
[How he knows that is his own tigery little secret.]

[ she's not fussed either which way, settling back and sucking on the straw. she's not sure what kotetsu wants, but settling into silence is her way of inviting him to direct this conversation he started, when he clearly knows her (or of her). ]

[Huffity puff, well that's fine, he can babble enough for the both of them.]
So, d'you come here often?
no subject
[ She just wants to clarify this. Real quick. ]
SHRIEKLAUGHS - 1/2
no subject
What?!
[That was definitely more high-pitched than a thirty-seven year old man should be capable of.]
no subject
[ not that she thought he really was, but he's bad with words, isn't he? either way, if he had been, he's too embarrassed at being called on it to do anything - and if he wasn't, which is what she actually believes, hopefully he'll... pay attention to wording now??? ]
This is the first time I've been here.
no subject
He sort of flaps an arm in flustered semi-indignation, which also happens to showcase his wedding ring.]
How--I--ohmygod, I'm old enough to be your dad!
no subject
And?
[ when did that ever stop people? ]
no subject
I'm not a pedophile!!!
no subject
[ Really, she's checked that word, it doesn't apply to people her age even here. But it's all she says, since it's not a subject that particularly matters right now. ]

Do you enjoy feeling outraged, or is this... how you choose to deal with feeling embarrassed?
[ her eyes flick over to the next table, where the group there keeps surreptitiously glancing at them. sigh. she'd be avoiding this particular location again in the future on the off chance these people were regulars. ]
no subject
There's nothing to enjoy about that.
[Sullenly sips at his drink!!!!!]
no subject
[ Though at least the other table isn't staring at them anymore. Small blessings! ]

He came out to have a good time and he's honestly feeling so attacked right now.]no subject
Mm. Maybe.
[ Then she starts to walk away - even without the people at the table over staring, this has entirely made every desire she has to not stand out feel uncomfortable with the attention... and possible loss of a location to hang around, if it lingered in anyone's memories. Being memorable was pretty much always the opposite of Annie's plans. ]

O-oi, you don't gotta leave...

See you around, Kotetsu.
