Legerdemain [OPEN]
WHO: Hisoka and OPEN
WHERE: Government Holding Facility
WHEN: December 1st - December 31st
WHAT: Visitors and fellow inmates chatting it up.
WARNINGS: None yet.
It's been an incredibly long time in this holding cell, in this- prison. Only three months and Hisoka can't handle being still for more than a few moments and his sleeping periods have shrunk smaller and smaller to naps of about two hours when they do happen. Even so- he's made to sleep, or well- lay there, in the dark, and those moments are the worst. He gets by by reading network conversations. Sometimes under blankets when hall patrols are happening, and he's only gotten caught once to which he lied himself out of and just said he checked the time upon waking up.
But for the most part- he's going a little mad. Especially now with Shade gone.
His cell neighbor, speaking to him was really what was getting him through the days, not that he'd admit it to himself. Hisoka was all for waiting but- being able to do things he wanted in the mean time helped. Years upon years he'd wait but only because he could best busy himself with other people and activities. Here it's just-
Jewelry, eating, "sleeping", wandering, re ha bilitation. And it's doing him in. Maybe that's why he- was starting to like Shade despite seeing none of his abilities or strengths. They spoke often in there, and the more they did, the more Hisoka was around someone generally just- enjoying speaking to him back and forth? It made it easier to stay cam and wait.
And then Shade left.
And now- if he doesn't busy himself he might accidentally snap a guards neck without- thinking about it. The bloodlust is there. He feels it in those long nights, waiting in the dark, his hands idle, knuckles white from how tight he keeps clenching them. He knows- he'd feel better if he could just- touch someone. Feel their blood beat under his fingers, their hot flesh against his, if he could just see a reaction in their face from his hands and a moment of taking everything from them. It- it wouldn't be nearly as good as a fight, or sex- but it'd make him feel less meaningless rotting away in here.
But he can't do that.
So instead.
Should a visitor come at any time throughout the month, or another inmate wander by- they will find Hisoka sitting amidst cards. Beginning of the month it won't be so impressive, but near a week into the month, and further on the castle of cards just- continues to grow and grow around him in his room. He supposes- he feels better doing it. Not that he's thinking while stacking. Infact, he's not thinking at all the entire time. Because thinking involves missing people, and needing things. Thinking involves wondering where Chrollo has been and why he hasn't visited despite saying he would do so. The same goes for Gon and his where abouts. Wondering about Jaime and what he's been up to and finding the thought mildly arousing only to once again work himself up and have no means of letting off the steam. And let's not even get started on that- Lunatic fellow he's been hearing so much about. So- no thoughts, no thinking, just cards.
So much of rehabilitation.

He quite likes how this man looks. Gorgeous, impressive, well kept- he feels a slight shiver run down his spin as his eyes run up him, over him. He'll stay on his cot though, for now, won't go to his 'gift', merely eyes the dropbox for a moment before staring at his visitor again, drinking him in.
It's normal for the mind to compare strangers you meet to those you're familiar with, and though this man doesn't look much like Illumi, he's who comes to mind. Impressive- and- there's a look about him. Something similar to how his 'friend' can look at times... The eyes of someone persistent, someone who knows exactly what they want, exactly what to believe in... Though on that note, there's- something very different between this man and Illumi.
"Hm- Thank you, and yes, I remember, how good of you to keep your promise, I'd say we're off to a good start, wouldn't you?" Said with a pleased, calm tone, and he'll lean forward and finally move to get off his cot. No heels, but he walks with the grace of someone quite experienced with them, and not cards move as he steps closer to the glass. Hips cock, a hand gripping at one side of them. Not once do his eyes leave Yuri, almost unblinkingly so. Slim, content to soak him in throughout every second.
"I regret meeting you here, you'll have to excuse my untidy appearance."
no subject
"I would say that, yes. It is a very good start so far, all things considered." He nods politely, arms disappearing behind his back, hands clasping together. "Your appearance isn't offensive, you needn't apologize."
If he's uncomfortable with the way Hisoka watches him, he doesn't show it. What does show, however, is a slight flicker of approval when Hisoka finally rises from his cot and comes closer. Better to converse this way. No need for raised voices. Conversations can be held a little more privately...if necessary.
"How long is the remainder of your sentence?"
no subject
"January first." A lie. But he says it in the same way he'd say the truth, keeping his same expression, cocking his head.
"You couldn't've come here just to ask that, unless you really did just want to see me for yourself." Eyes slim, jutting his chin out a little and splitting his lips to show a little teeth.
"Did you?"
no subject
"I came to ask a great many questions of you and hear your answers, whatever they may be."
If he wants the truth, he can always speak with the guards. And he may yet do that upon leaving, but for now...it's Hisoka's replies that he's most interested in. What the clown is willing to say, what he isn't willing to say...there's a lot to discern from such things.
He shakes his head when prompted with the second part of Hisoka's question, however.
"Is that why you agreed? Simply so you could see me?"
Answering a question with a question.
1/2
He had no reason to lie about his due date. It just- came out. Only when it could show to be a bother does he over think a lie, but when it doesn't matter? It's up in the air. He's told others the truth of when his release is, he doesn't doubt Yuri could find out easily. Infact, he wants him to.
"Yes." Plain and simple, his brows going up a little, a pedantic smile coiling on his lips. He really did just want to see him.

As for his smile...the answer is no. People never tell Russians they should be in pictures because they're bloody awful at smiling. Or rather, the reasons they smile are so vastly different from that of your average person. It's an expression that...says so much and so little, depending upon the circumstance, subtle quirks that may or may not be present, eye contact or no. All those little details. Yuri's? Most often they speak of a guarded politeness, resemble what is often referred to as a servant's smile, but that's not surprising given his position as a public servant of sorts.
As for Hisoka's smile...that prompts slightly raised eyebrows, but overall not much change in expression. There's a dangerous edge to it, to the way Hisoka's lips curve, the way his eyes narrow, but Yuri doesn't feel threatened. Because of the glass between them? Perhaps. But it has significantly more to do with the strength of his resolve. Fear is a thing that gets in the way. It's unnecessary.
"It doesn't take much, I see." Yuri sighs. Sounds disappointed, but says... "That's...reassuring."
no subject
"Hn-" Chuckles, slight, more near the back of his throat than in his mouth. "Do you usually sell yourself short?" Cocks his head.
Doesn't take much, but then, Hisoka has only ever needed a glance or two to know if anyone's worth the effort. Just a glance for Hisoka is so much more than that. He can't see an aura, and he's sure if he could he would be even more sure of himself. But from this short encounter alone, from what Yuri has said, how it was said- how he holds himself- Yuri isn't the only one with a keen eye.
His gaze stays as weighted as ever, lapping at him from behind the glass and it'd be a lie to say there wasn't something like pleasure knotting in his stomach.
He hopes he's right ah-- but if only he could see more.
"Not much at all-" Smiles. "All I ever need is a look. Infact-" A heavy breath, his nostrils flaring for a moment, eyes widening a little under his bangs. "Someone like you I might fall head over heels for." Might-
After all, in here, most everything remains a mystery to him till he can see some action. He doesn't mind if Yuri continues to believe he is that easily swayed. Either way it benefits him. Should he think it's so easy to gain Hisoka's approval, his attention, than he'll underestimate him. But should he realize that 'only a glance' really just means he's perfected reading people- at least to the point of knowing the meat there, if there's anything hidden, well-
Then he might just see a little change in that expressionless face. He likes feeling impressive after all, likes seeing realization on someone's face when they see what he can do- what he's capable of.
no subject
"Sell myself short? Ah...you thought that I was referring to myself." Yuri shakes his head. "I meant that you're a very responsive individual, that's all."
Very responsive indeed. But, at least in Yuri's mind, that isn't a bad thing. It means that, probably, if their paths do cross out there in the real world, where their powers won't be limited and there won't be people to stand in between them, or glass, should they encounter one another, killer-to-killer, clown to lunatic, it might actually be rather easy to provoke the other man. It's still too early to tell, of course. And people are always a little different restrained than they are when they can cut loose. Hisoka might demonstrate ten times more control in that case.
Hm. He...wants to see. But he can wait. He has as much patience (or as little) as he needs to have when it comes to such things.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you seem to have the wrong impression yet again." So. Dry. And quite condescending, in spite of (the lie) the words that are spoken. "In any case, we spoke the other day of rehabilitation. Has a regimen yet been decided upon? For your reintroduction to proper society, that is. I am interested in hearing what you plan to do."
no subject
He'd rather see them.
Himself? Oh- Yuri thought he was serious? He knew he didn't mean himself, tch-- heh--
"Ha--- hahahahaha." Laughing, sliding a hand to cover his face as he does. "I didn't realize you were so oblivious either." Cute though, and he puckers his lips in a small, cute smile, dropping his hand again. With that he'll move to the drop slot, open it, and quietly retrieve the deck of cards.
"I know you meant me," a glance up. "You're not the type of man to look down on yourself, infact, I'd say you think very highly of yourself, what you can do, and what you believe in." The way he presents himself, how he dresses, confidence in himself could easily be from confidence in what he can do- and just knowing he's/was a judge. It all points to a man that views himself highly, he should know. He acts relatively the same.
"Oh are you showing concern now?" Keeping his smile, opening the deck of cards. It's taking his attention, no longer glancing up to the other man.
The top slides open and he carefully removes all the cards from the box, even going so far as to pocket the box instead of merely drop it. With that, his fingers begin to thumb through the cards, taking every face in one by one.
"Get a job I can stand, a different wardrobe, getting myself more familiar with laws and my rights. Maybe some history, hm, why?" Glances up finally, picking up the five of diamonds and lifting it up, waving it back and forth a little with the skull facing the glass.
"Did you plan on helping me? Or were you curious?"
no subject
In any case, Hisoka is half right. Yuri has reason to think highly of himself. He is, in fact, a very capable man, one who has accomplished a great deal in his life. But he is also one who...is sometimes a little at odds with what he does. Or doesn't do. The mask he wears isn't just superficial. It bleeds into all areas of his life. And the mask of Lunatic - putting that on sometimes makes him feel like a completely different person. Or monster. Liberated.
He glances at the cards as Hisoka picks them up, opens the box and thumbs through the deck.
"Are you attempting to solicit a reaction by insulting me?" It won't work. Not that easily, at least. It'll take a lot more to get under his skin. "Asking pointless questions? You know the answer. I'm not concerned for you. I am concerned about the public and the effect your release will have upon it."
He unclasps his hands from behind him only to fold his arms cross his chest. His gaze wanders back to the card tower.
"What if I said I did plan to offer my assistance?"
no subject
He's- never fully understood this persona business. Being a completely different person- some masked man other than himself- liberated as someone else? He can understand it logically, ah- to be someone else would help in certain situations, yes. Useful. But he really can't imagine being anyone but himself, ever feeling more liberated than how he always has been- since he's earned the right anyway.
That said- he's certainly fascinated by the concept. Or would be.
"I was laughing because it was funny." Plain and simple. Cocking his head, he catches Yuri's gaze again, staring as he speaks. Of course he's not concerned for him, who is? Who ever has been? This is idle chat and he's amusing himself, but it doesn't seem like he'll get witty banter with this man. Not that he expected it.
A sigh, steepling his brows slightly.
"Then I'd say-" His mouth opens, jaw sagging for a moment before he brings up the card and drags his tongue along one of it's edges slowly. His breath drawn out, eyes slowly closing.
"I'd accept anything you'd give me." Smile- tilting the card away from his mouth, chuckling, eyes languidly opening and directing their stare at Yuri again. "Or the public, I suppose."
no subject
Of course, if you want something funny to laugh at...that would be as good a thing as any. Considering what Yuri's tattoo actually reads hidden beneath the tailored sleeve of his suit jacket. Criminal. How wretched. To have fallen so far, to be branded the same as the filth the other side of the glass, raking that tongue along the edge of a card, and Yuri finds himself idly hoping the man cuts himself. But Hisoka would probably enjoy that, wouldn't he?
Pity.
Though his eyes are absorbing every detail of every gesture, he replies impassively, "I don't deal in excess. That is to say, what I have to offer is...assistance in repairing your public image. No more, no less."
no subject
"Hm." Flicks the card, pointing it at him before twirling it into- nothing. Showing his hand the card appears to be gone, only to be seen, face up, ontop of the deck in his other hand. He shrugs up both shoulders and hands after that.
"I'm interested in hearing how."
no subject
"You're sharp. You must already be aware that you'll be monitored post-release. As part of your rehabilitation." He uncrosses his arms, brushing a lock of hair out of his eyes and behind an ear as he does so. "The better the impression you make, the less likely you'll be to have to endure an extended probation period."
Ideally, the better the impression, the more reformed the individual, but in the case of some (and Hisoka doesn't strike Yuri as someone who will change his ways too readily) reformation seems...out of the question. So, the goal here is to learn what he can from the arrangement. Providing Hisoka agrees. It is an added bonus that he'll be given an opportunity to try his hand at actually bettering the man (though the opportunities it will leave them alone are much, much more preferred).
...Such a shame death is transient here. And he frowns at that thought. There are some more willing to learn from the experience despite it being impermanent, and there are others...like Hisoka, surely. Who will undoubtedly be...resistant.
"You mentioned an interest in learning laws and rights. I can assist with that. I have several references at my disposal. The same can be said of this world's history, if you are being honest about your interest in it." His shoulders rise and fall with a soft breath, eyes focused somewhere else now. Not the card castle, not Hisoka, just...elsewhere. "I would also be happy to help with finding you a new job...but that means having to ask you, will you be registered then, Hisoka? Or will you be opting for an unsettled status?"
no subject
For the most part.
This place IS new after all.
"Upon my release I plan to register, should I be allowed. Showing I can make such a commitment is important." And he's done it before, for years in fact, without making much problems for himself. Well- besides a general tardiness of course. Everything else this man has to say is reasonable, as expected, Hisoka won't be completely honest himself though, and he expects the same of this man. Though he's starting to see an actual desire to help the public- in some way at least.
He could could be aiming for a few things. To assist his reform, to- if not actually change his interests, at least help him in hiding them and no longer indulging in his 'problems'. Or he could be putting up an entire front only to go after something else. His first thought is to kill him.
But then- that's because that's something he would do.
In the end, deep thought on the matter is better left for another time. He just simply can't get a good read in here, and besides, Hisoka is much more interested in living in the moment.
"I meant what I said. I was thoroughly aware of how my own world worked in many places and at many times, I'm merely unfamiliar with this one." And what he can possibly get away with. So many rules- fun for a while but he knows he'll grow tired of them soon... But he can play by them if it means not ending up in here again. He just... Really doesn't want to be in predicament again.
no subject
He's not a gambler, but he knows how he felt taking down certain criminals back home, and how he felt taking them down here. First-timers and accidents are but a pittance. It's those who have drenched themselves in the blood of others, who've tread roads paved with corpses, that he truly seeks to purge.
And he believes wholeheartedly, genius or no, all criminals will be caught eventually, will slip somewhere down the line. It's what they do. There is a pleasure in chase and resistance, in holding their accomplishments over others. Some are more outspoken about it than others, but in the end, at least in Yuri's eyes, that is the one thing every criminal has in common with each other.
"I don't think your vie for registration will be denied."
And he doesn't. Likely, the demonstration of such commitment is exactly what the government of this world hopes to see following the completion of a sentence. It makes things easier for them, especially as death seems to be impermanent here for imPorts. The only way then to clear a prison cell is to wait until the imPort within is ported out, or to put them on 'probation'. For those who've lost their jobs due to their incarceration, possibly even their homes, their friends, and other connections...having an opportunity still to register (or work from a 'clean slate' if they were registered prior) is something of a safety net.
Still a net, meant to capture, but...it definitely prevents any unnecessary falling. Enticing in its own way, the appeal undeniable.
Yuri's gaze trails back to Hisoka.
"Are you accepting my proposal, then?"
If so, he'll need to prepare the things he's promised. It won't take very much time, but he'll take all the time he's allotted. Even if his goal is, in the end, to kill this killer, to see true justice served, there is no harm in attempting to lay down a positive foundation before hand, especially if the clown will revive. And in order to do that, he desires quality material.
But that's Yuri...always taking his work very seriously.
no subject
Will they Yuri? By that logic, won't you as well? But you're hardly the only person to think so highly of himself. At least Hisoka sees what he does as what it is. Perhaps you're the one who needs to learn something.
"Neither do I." A slim, knowing smile that scrunches his eyes at the corners. Why would he be? The people that brought them here want all the "help" they can get, don't they? Even if it means allowing criminals to assist but ah- That's what reform is for. It looks good to be open and give second chances, doesn't it.
"Oh please. Mold me, Yuri." His voice slides from his lips, thick with and implication. Mold him, touch him, make him what you think he should be, yet knowing it'll do nothing, knowing he won't actually manage it. Just as Yuri will try to help as a foundation but desires to kill him as the main goal, Hisoka only sees this possible closeness as- just that.
Getting close.
Wanting to see more, see if there's something he really wants there. By his tone, even his gaze alone it's easy to see how hungry he is for it. Difficult for him to hide it these days too. There's always that glint in his eye, but he almost pours it while sitting in that cell now. Boredom, desire, an indulgent, ravenous man that's been given nothing for too long.
no subject
So, what's there left to learn? ...Perhaps how much time is left? Admittedly, that is an answer he both desires and dreads.
In any case, he's not going to give Hisoka the pleasure of a direct response to those words. Instead, he offers but a polite tip of his head and a softly spoken, "I will leave my business card with the guard, in that case. When you're released," and he's not entirely convinced Hisoka was telling the truth about the release date, but because he doesn't know, he's ambiguous with his choice of words, "you may contact me if you haven't changed your mind."
He turns as if to leave, but does not move towards the exit.
Asks instead, "Was it worth it?"
no subject
"Killing those people, was not worth this." And he means it too.
no subject
"What did you think would be your punishment if you were caught? Or...did you not consider that you would be caught at all?"
no subject
"I hadn't even considered it. Where I'm from, it's different- much is different." Unfortunately he can't go into details. It'd be bad to suggest he's killed--
many, many times over, while in jail here, with people watching. But Yuri's smart, he'll probably realize upon hearing those words that killing here- was nothing compared to what he's used to. And if the words don't suggest it right away, the smile spreading over his face might.
no subject
With little more than a nod of his head, the judge takes his leave. In the days to come, he'll need to learn what he can about Hisoka to prepare for...well, the inevitable failed attempt at trying to reform the killer.
