WHO: Killua & Alluka, Killua & Gon WHERE: Their respective houses WHEN: 11/11 WHAT: A catch-all for Killua dealing with some... family matters?? WARNINGS: None as of now.
[Finally, they were arriving at Alluka's place. Killua had taken it upon himself to pick her up at her school every day and walk her home, and so that's what he was doing now. Hand in hand, they headed to her door and up to her room where he could finally sling his backpack off from his shoulders and plop on the ground into a seat.
A lot of the time, Gon would meet up with them, too. But he'd specifically requested the day alone with Alluka today, just so they could talk. Gon's would come afterwards.
Smiling to his sister, he pats the ground across from him.]
[ Everything felt different, new, and exciting. Confusing, but she was honestly happier being in this situation than she was back at home. She sits next to him, staring upwards at him. ]
There's a lot to do here! I like being here with everyone. [ Everyone including everyone she's met. Of course, she enjoyed spending time with Killua, and she liked Gon quite a bit, too. ]
There's barely a beat when she speaks next. ] Big Brother, pat my head?
[He continues with his smile, but it's hard to ignore the way his mind is racing. He needs to find a way to protect both Alluka and everyone around her. But Nanika is who he worries about. What's he supposed to do about that? He reaches over, patting her head like she requests as he leans in a bit.]
Ah, Nanika has come out, then? [He had wondered about that. But no deaths were reported thus far... He wonders, dropping his hand from Alluka's head.]
Different how? Has Nanika requested anything, or granted any wishes?
[If Nanika won't come out on its own right now, he'll request it in a few minutes. He just wants to pass these questions by Alluka first. He's still planning and thinking. How to best protect his sister...]
[ She shakes her head. It wasn't anything like Nanika's requests changing-- but something else entirely. ] The rules changed.
Big Brother, do you want to talk to Nanika?
[ She doesn't really want to go when it feels like they don't get a lot of time together right now... At least, she wanted to make up for their time lost. ]
[It's hard to hide his surprise at that, but he at least keeps it brief. There's a muted smile shortly afterwards and he places his hands on Alluka's shoulders, looking her in the eyes.]
Yeah, is that okay? I just need to talk to Nanika for a few minutes, and then we can go back to talking, too.
[Nanika gets a greeting all to itself, separate from Alluka. They seem to be separate entities, and Killua can respect that. It makes it all the more painful that he's thinking of ways to solve this issue and it's involving telling one of those parts of his sister to disappear, but...
[ The second persona comes out - the expression the same as always. Nanika always seems rather stiff in comparison to Alluka - barely moving unless it's in response to something. She looks up to Killua.
She'd like to be praised for coming out - for answering Killua's questions. She'd demand for that afterwards. ]
[To Killua, Nanika isn't a monster or something creepy. He doesn't view this in the same way as the rest of his family. There are still some things he needs to learn about Alluka and Nanika, but it's true that he knows them best.
He knows Nanika will expect praise for this, and he doesn't mind it at all. What he wants to know is if this can be answered.]
[Once he's finished speaking with Alluka and explaining that he has to leave to do some other things, it's off to visit Gon. He doesn't bother with doors, simply jumping up carefully to the right window and sliding it open, hopping inside with a small noise.
Once he stands straight he finds Gon with a wave, tossing his backpack onto his bed. The plan was talk to Alluka and then come over here-- he'd let Gon know ahead of time, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he showed up like this. (Maybe that he came through the window, though.)]
Hey. Sorry it took so long. You ready, or are you busy with anything?
[Gon catches his backpack before it disrupts his homework papers scattered around the sheets. Setting the backpack down on the floor, he gathers up the papers in a neat stack and brings them to his desk, hopping back onto the bed before nodding.]
No, just homework. I'll do it later. Did you want to talk about Alluka?
Ah, sorry. I finished mine up already, but I can stay while you do yours.
[In case he has any questions. Besides, he likes hanging around, and he has some games on his phone/communicator. But right. Stepping closer, he refrains from pocketing his hands this time, instead raising one to rub at the back of his head as he looks away.]
But yeah, that's right.
[Another step, and he spins to sit next to Gon, angling himself so one leg is crossed over the bed and he can face him more directly.]
It might seem like I was trying to hide her from you, but the truth is... I think Illumi did something to make me forget about her. [He taps his own head with one hand, frowning as he gestures with the other.] I couldn't remember her at all until I saw her face here!
[He doesn't mention the homework, figuring that his setting aside of the materials was answer enough. Screw school, Killua's here.]
I was wondering about that. [Not to say that he was suspicious Killua was hiding from him, moreso that he was wondering why she was a secret. There weren't that many secrets kept from each other-if there were, it'd be an accident. When he hears the real reason he has to calm himself, fist clenching by his side. It takes some strength to keep his voice level and untouched by anger.] Why would Illumi want to keep her from you? You're siblings.
Her power is able to let her grant any wish after someone answers three requests from her. If you refuse the requests, you'll die instantly. If you answer the three, she's able to grant one wish... And depending on the size of that wish, the next requests she makes are more extreme. She could ask for a kidney or she could ask for a pat on the head.
It's even more complicated than that, but basically... [He sighs, leaning on his own knees a bit.] My family thinks of her as a dangerous weapon. They keep her locked up and try to control her that way.
[His eyes focus now on the clenching of Gon's hands, and he sits up straight again, reaching over to place his own calm hand on Gon's shoulder. A flash of a strange dream is briefly remembered then, but then it fades away.]
They think she's too dangerous to be out, I think. But I know her way better than they do.
[When he hears the reasoning, the clenching of his fist loosens. It's hard to deny that the power is a frightening thing. Instant death is never something to take lightly and against his better judgement, Gon finds himself painfully aware of his slight acceptance to Illumi's reasoning.
It scares him to the point of anger. With a tight frown, his fist tightens again as he forces himself to remember the injustice of it all. The unfairness. Even with dangerous powers, she should be taught how to handle them instead of hidden away. And using a person as a weapon? It was a heinous idea.]
Yeah. [Reaching one hand over to set on Gon's shoulder reassuringly, the other raises its index finger to make a point.] This is the part my family doesn't know yet, so are you sure you want to hear it? If they found out, I'm sure they'd want me to control her for them even more.
[It's not that he doesn't trust Gon, but that he doesn't want to place such a heavy burden on him without specific consent.]
[Gon knows what he means. Knows why he's asking, if between the lines. There's nothing degrading to it. Nothing suspicious or cautious. Simply a question that he answers bluntly with a nod.]
[He lowers his index finger, setting that hand on his lap.] There's a lot to this, so I'll break it up into the rules and standards. First, you need to know that the person who can grant the wishes isn't Alluka herself, but a separate entity that we call Nanika. Nanika is the one who calls me "Killua" while Alluka will call me "Big Brother". Their faces are different, too.
Now, for the rules. The first one is that if someone fails to meet Alluka's requests and is killed, the difficulty of the following requests are set back to level one. Meaning, they're easier things to be able to grant. Next, if Alluka starts making requests of someone, they can't transfer over to someone else. That same person will have to complete all three requests, so if they disappear from her sight, her powers are put on hold. But, if a person dies in the middle of those requests, it counts as a failure, and one more person will die. On the other hand, if that same person is able to complete the three requests, someone else can still make the 'wish' from their payments, as long as they're in front of her.
She can't make requests of someone if she doesn't know their name. She also can't take two wishes in a row from the same person.
[He lets that settle in for a moment, watching Gon's expression for a reaction. It's all confusing, and so he's trying to be as simple about this as possible.]
Those are all of the rules my family is aware of, but I know of a few more. The first is that I'm an exception to all of the earlier ones. If I make a command instead of a 'wish', then it will be granted without me having to fulfill any requests. If someone else gets a request from her after me, they're the same level as the wish before mine.
On top of that, even though she can only make one wish at a time, you can set conditions to the wish. "If I do this, then make that happen. If not, then make this happen." That sort of thing.
Her wishes aren't limited in any sense from what I can tell, but if you make a wish to heal someone, Alluka has to be able to touch them. After that, though, Nanika gets tired and falls asleep, and they switch places. The requests are never harsh after a healing wish.
Does that make sense? Those are the rules as far as I know them after spending so much time with her before, but according to her just now, some of them have changed. I have to be extra careful and monitor things. ...I think my big brother told Hisoka a bit about her at some point, too.
[Honestly, it's hard to follow along. He tries his best, but some parts still get jumbled. The gist is clear, however, and the main, important parts, are what he takes away. Sort of.]
It's kind of complicated but I think I get it. Some of it, at least. [He tenses at the thought of Hisoka knowing but pushes it aside for now. Worry should come later, after all of this has been straightened out. After the rules have been clarified.] What should I do if she asks me for requests?
[He's very serious as he says this, even leaning in a little bit and raising his finger between them in warning. He drops it shortly after, exhaling slowly and softly. It makes sense that Gon wouldn't get it all right off the bat, no matter how he explained it. It took him a while himself, and the rest of his family still doesn't get all of it.]
If you don't, you could die instantly. The rules seem affected by this place somehow, but it's not clear how just yet, so it's better not to take any risks.
[Hesitantly, Gon nods. Usually, he's not one to think ahead but given such an ultimatum he can't help but ponder the possibilities. It brings up concerns in its broadness.
He pauses to consider his question before asking it.]
