Now we're back at the homestead, where the air makes you choke...
WHO: Yuri Petrov and Kotetsu Kaburagi
WHERE: Kotetsu's place, Residence #14
WHEN: Backdated to after this thread
WHAT: Kotetsu is really quite awful at taking care of himself, so Yuri is making a house call to see that it's done right
WARNINGS: Just these two idiots, so probably just a lot of awkwardness and passive-aggressiveness
[Yuri does not reply to the last message that he receives from Kotetsu, no longer wanting to deal with wasting his energy and time deciphering the veteran Hero's hideous auto corrections and miscellaneous other typos. His patience is great, but it is not without its limits.
He takes with him his first aid kit when he leaves his apartment for Kotetsu's, a taxi taking him across town. Outside the man's home—not terribly far from where he used to live himself a couple of weeks earlier—he pays the cab driver and then exits the vehicle. The driveway is vacant of any other cars, and Yuri presumes as he approaches the front door that Kotetsu is inside by himself. He wonders as he raises his hand and raps his knuckles against the door, what sort of state is Kotetsu's hand in? And will the man let it heal naturally or will he use his Hundred Power to set it right? Whatever the case may be, Yuri must maintain appearances. He is still very much involved with the Sternbild Heroes in this world, whether he wants to be or not. He cannot simply cut away from them and begin behaving as though their well-being is of no importance. It would be too suspicious...and in this particular instance, it would not serve his own interests very well.
As Yuri waits for the door to be answered, he considers what questions he might ask Kotetsu pertaining to the man's relationship with Jayden, and exactly how he might begin to broach the subject without causing more aggravation—a difficult task to be true, Kotetsu being far too emotional and reactive for his own good.]

He reaches to open the door with his right hand out of habit, hissing a little in discomfort as he twists the knob before he realizes his mistake.
That doesn't keep him from giving the judge a blank sort of stare as he stands in the doorway, though, blinking a couple times.]
Uh....hey.
[His hand, incidentally, doesn't look too bad. The knuckles are sort of red and a little swollen, with the beginnings of bruising around them, but it's unlikely his hand is broken, or anything of the sort. ]
no subject
So, when Kotetsu answers the door, he wastes no time in letting his gaze drop toward the hand he's come here to inspect. He does not allow Kotetsu's expression to perturb him, nor the vapid way the man greets him.]
Kotetsu. Are you going to invite me in?
[He meets the man's eyes at last and seems remarkably calm for all that he is inwardly aggravated with being made to ask to be allowed inside the veteran Hero's house.]
no subject
Uh, yeah, sure.
[He rubs at his neck with his good hand.]
Sorry--I didn't think you were coming right now.
[Stepping away from the doorway now, leading Yuri back inside.]
Could I get you anything to eat, or drink, or whatever?
no subject
[His tone says for him just what he thinks of that; needless to say, he's not impressed. As to the rest...]
That won't be necessary. [Yuri follows Kotetsu's lead.] Someplace to sit is all I require, and a good look at your hand.
no subject
[...He's not even mad that Yuri's here or anything, but for some reason he feels the need to argue the point.]
Anyway. I guess the couch's fine for that.
[He indicates it with his left, taking his own seat like a scolded child. He's...not gonna offer his hand to be looked at without being asked, whoops.]
no subject
[Yuri follows Kotetsu to the living area and takes a seat beside the other man. Ordinarily he would be more respectful of personal boundaries, but at present he is minutely prickled by Kotetsu's childish balking. He lays his first aid kit next to him upon the sofa seat, opens the box, and then—without asking—reaches for Kotetsu's injured hand on his own.]
You must be quite upset with yourself to have done this and not simply healed the damage—and do not tell me you don't wish to use your power irresponsibly. Harming yourself is just as irresponsible and renders you unable to operate at your full capacity as a Hero.
no subject
At Yuri's observation, he actually blinks and looks down at his hand as if he hadn't considered that. Mostly because he hadn't.]
...I uh, actually, I hadn't tried that since the whole Jake incident, since it didn't work all that well...
[But it had healed all his superficial scratches and bruises, so he supposes he could do that now...He's not sure he wants to, though.]
It's not that bad. I'll do it when there's trouble.
[Because certainly, there will be trouble. There always is. It's how the job works.]
no subject
I want you to answer me truthfully...
[Cleaning the knuckles for good measure with alcohol and a cotton ball, Yuri meets the veteran Hero's eyes, his own intense.]
Is this only about your argument with Jayden? For it seems a very strong reaction to have, and a very concerning reaction at that.
[Concerning because it is violent, and Kotetsu...that is the one way the man who idolizes his father has at least managed to always be different from his father. Is that changing now? Has this world brought out the worst in Kotetsu? It's possible, and if it is so...Yuri knows it will mean keeping a closer eye on the other man. That way he can be there should the worst happen, or rather...to prevent the worst from happening. Again.]
no subject
But then it clicks as to just what it is Yuri is implying, and his eyes narrow, mouth tightening into a thin line.]
You know I'd never hurt someone.
[There's definitely an undercurrent of how dare you even suggest that in his voice.]
no subject
Are you offended by my asking? It's my job.
[Yuri, unlike Kotetsu, remains composed, his tone of voice even, words chosen carefully as always, as if he has all the time in the world to select them.]
If you don't tell me when things are bothering you and I never ask, my ability to help you in any way is greatly reduced. Do you understand?
no subject
[He emphasizes that old title intentionally; sure they've been working on this whole friendship thing and all, but it's not really Yuri's job to check up on him like this.]
no subject
[Finishing with the rubbing alcohol and cotton ball, they are both set aside. A bandage is readied, but before it is applied, Yuri brings Kotetsu's hand nearer to him and lightly presses the pad of his thumb between the man's index and middle fingers. Starting at the base of the fingers and working his way back toward the other man's wrist, he massages the tendons within while also feeling for any irregularities beneath the skin.]
In Sternbild, you were surrounded by the other Heroes, Barnaby especially. You were in a world where you belonged. But things are different this side of the Porter. Is it so strange that I would take a personal interest in your well being, those things considered?
[In short, while it may not be his literal job to check up on Kotetsu, it is very clear that (whatever his reasons, and there are several) Yuri does feel it is his responsibility. Which is closer to what he meant.
And besides...]
Would you not do the same for me if our situation was reversed, Mr. Kaburagi?
no subject
...I wouldn't imply what you're implying.
[There's this thing called trust, Yuri. Kotetsu has entirely too much of it, but that's not the point.]
I thought you knew me better than that.
[Kotetsu isn't really aware enough of his own feelings to realize, but it's a little ironic: the very foundation of his self-conception is based on the ideals of a Hero--threatening that was why he'd lost his temper with Jayden in the first place. And here Yuri is, concerned about the potential for behavior that would violate those very ideals he clings so tightly to.]
no subject
[He ceased the massaging of the tendons in Kotetsu's hand, hoping that what little he'd done would promote a quicker recovery.
The things he knew how to do for being a vigilante...]
Please understand, my asking is nothing personal. I simply do not wish to see you or anyone else suffer. I have no Hero suit with which to don with scanners that will interpret things for me—my only weapons in the fight against injustice are my wits. This is the only way I am equipped to deal with things.
no subject
Kotetsu's stare grows harder, momentarily. He doesn't particularly appreciate that being thrown in his face right now, not when he's had to be on the run from his own coworkers in not-too-distant memory because of the CEO's manipulations. Not when he remembers the hate-filled look in Barnaby's eyes on that bridge.]
It's just a stupid wall, okay?? It's no different than going to a gym and punching a bag for a while.
[You know, except for the part where it hurt a lot more.]
I just got pissed and hit the wall to blow off some steam and that was that. There's no questionable crap goin' on and if you want proof of that you can go talk to Emma or something so she can tell you For Sure.
[He doesn't sound as disconcerted about that suggestion as he probably should. When you live with a telepath who can't actually turn off hearing he surface thoughts and feelings of the people around them you kind of have to trust them by default.]
no subject
I think I've overstayed my welcome.
[He finishes wrapping Kotetsu's hand before promptly beginning to put things away, setting the kit on the table.]
I didn't wish to offend you, Kotetsu. If I've done so, you have my apology.
[Standing then, he bows his head politely in the other man's direction before starting toward the door.]
Take care.
no subject
He's not petty enough to just let Yuri leave unacknowledged though, so at least he offers a Thanks, night as Yuri goes, though he doesn't follow him to the door or see him out like he would in an ordinary social call.
Once the judge is gone, he flops on the couch again, staring blankly up at the ceiling. At least his hand hurts less, now.]
