Meet the Family [closed]

WHO: Mia and Maya Fey, Diegodot Armandot or whatever his name is this week
WHERE: Mia and Diego's place
WHEN: Sunday night, 9/28
WHAT: Maya comes over for dinner to meet her sister's weird toaster-faced boyfriend in a non-courtroom context.
WARNINGS: Nada

It was very rare to see Diego in casual clothing, though his idea of casual was really just lacking a vest and tie. He still wore a button-up shirt, though loose and open with a T-shirt underneath. The visor gleamed brightly against the metal stovetop as he focused on his cooking.

He volunteered to cook because it would give Mia more time to visit with her sister. And it would also result in a dinner that was actually edible (Mia was many things... a cook was not one of them.)

Most of all, though, it would give Diego time to think about just how he was going to approach Miss Maya Fey now that he was her sister's boyfriend, and not her friend's enemy. Now that they weren't courtroom opponents. Now that he wasn't secretly spying on her and working in the shadows, pulling strings to keep her safe from her scheming aunt.

Yes. He hadn't really mentioned that to Mia yet, and hoped it wouldn't come up with Maya. Some things are just difficult to explain, and rarely make for pleasant dinner conversation.

He sipped from his fourth cup of coffee (the other three all lined up along the counter) and listened for the doorbell.

Thankfully, Maya had enough directional sense to manage finding the apartment, easy-peasy. It wasn't that big of a deal, really, though she did feel a slight unease tugging at the recesses of her mind as she glanced up at the door; half nervous and half worried. But she soon shook those thoughts off, raising her hand at the doorbell.

Easy come, easy go.

"Mr. Armando...! Sis...! Are you guys home?"

She was invited after all, so they should be there, right? It would be rude, otherwise.

Though unlike most people - as is probably the case - Maya's in her same acolyte outfit, just having washed it a day prior so the stink wouldn't remain.

Though there was one thing that she was caught curious about; that thing was the eternal question: why was she invited to begin with? Because it was sis was one answer, but something smelled fishy, and it wasn't the sushi - which wasn't bad, but nothing compared to a good burger - she ate earlier.

Hopefully nobody would ask about her adventures in England. She could only hope for so much, though.

"I'll get it!"

Mia had already been hovering by the door waiting for her sister to arrive, and the novelty of the idea still hadn't worn off yet. Maya was here, she had her family with her. Even with the hardships of losing Phoenix and Trucy and Apollo and even Edgeworth in the course of a month while in the middle of trying to start up a new practice, waking up in the morning knowing that her little sister was a phone call away was enough to make it all seem that much brighter. Diego had been fantastic, that much was a given, but he had his own career move to think about and the last thing Mia wanted to do was be a burden to him.

She was very conscious of never having introduced her boyfriend to the family when they had first started seeing each other; she had been so caught up in her work and the rush of being in a relationship that had so unexpectedly come about with such an unlikely partner that she had never found the right time, and then the chance had been taken away from her with a single tainted cup of coffee. Talking about him had been too painful, and Maya had been so young, and then Redd White took away any future opportunities she might have had to bring the two most important people in her life together.

That was then, this was now. Now they could rectify past mistakes.

"Hi short stuff," Mia opened the door and didn't even give her sister the chance to cross the threshold before she was hugging her and giving her a kiss on the forehead. "I hope you're hungry, Diego's cooking up a storm in the kitchen."
