[For a last minute thing thrown by a two people who don't have much experience with birthday parties, it's all come together pretty well. Nevermind that they actually didn't have a place to hold the party until not too long ago (minor detail), but hey, that's what public parks are for. Covered seating, a hearty amount of streamers and cheap, brightly colored table cloths, food scattered around the tables--this is probably what a birthday party for a younger kid would look like.

Whatever, it's charming.

There's a man made lake and a few fire pits for cooking nearby, though it looks like meat was probably forgotten in favor of baked goods, chips, dip, pizza, soda, and beer.

If one pays attention, they may catch sight of Ellie and Skye exchanging high fives throughout the party. Well done, ladies.]

Well, yeah, I mean - I figured something was up, but this is like... big. Nobody's ever done something like this for me before.

[Ellie gives him a sheepish smile as she lets him go.]

I don't know if it was worth it, I was expecting tears of gratitude and maybe you passing out from shock.

[Obviously kidding. She's pleased with this.]

[He ruffles her hair a little as he straightens.]

[That's tolerated only because it's his birthday. She still makes a face as she smooths her hair back down.]

Can I give you your present now? [She has no idea how birthday parties and gifts go, but she's going to duck out the moment she feels like Joel might need her. Can't forget to give the thing, though.]

[The party was enough effort. He's honestly surprised.]

Uh, it's nothing big. I've never really done a lot of gift giving so I kiiiiinda suck at it. [She takes a step back.]

After a second or two, Jesse will feel a shoebox sized box pushed against his chest. It's wrapped in sparkly blue paper, and is randomly cut and taped, but it covers the box.

What's inside? A little model. Not exactly like his, but it's a yellow car so CLOSE ENOUGH.]

[...He probably would think that was amazing.

He opens his eyes once the box is in his hands, admiring the wrap job for a moment before he tears it open. Once he sees what's inside, he lets out a delighted laugh.]

Oh my god! My car!

Kinda! Just tiny. Tinier. Now you can have it in your room, too.

I love it, seriously. Skye's gonna laugh. She hates my car and now she's gotta look at it extra. This is perfect.

[Ellie snorts. SORRY, SKYE...]
