WHO: Uzu Sanageyama and Ira Gamagori
WHERE: Some nice cafe in the city
WHEN: 18th of September
WHAT: DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE CHAIR GAMAGORI IRA and ATHLETICS COMMITTEE CHAIR SANAGEYAMA UZU get down to some SERIOUS BUSINESS. They're going to talk about Gamagori's ~feelings~ now that Mako is gone. Or, well, try to.
WARNINGS: Nothing!
[Even if other people thought leaving Gamagori to his own devices over this was the best move - which he isn't entirely sure of, since Sanageyama didn't ask the others to begin with - that wasn't the way he did things. Considering he and Gamagori were very similar, Sanageyama figured being direct might just be a good idea; after all, it couldn't possibly hurt to try and talk it over with the guy. Worst case scenario, he'll drop the topic and move on, but he couldn't imagine not at least checking up on him to see if he was doing alright.
So he's sitting outside of a cafe somewhere in the city by himself, with nothing but a glass of water at his table - offers by servers to take his order are dismissed, saying he's waiting for a friend before he decides on what to have.
Even if sitting outside gave Gamagori more room, he's just hoping the chairs aren't too small. Guy was too big for his own good sometimes.]

What a WHAT.
Sanageyama. [Said in the strict, yet often contradictory casual way he tends to treat all his fellow devas. On a different layer of respect but not above the rules he's created in his life. He has no reason to question this occasion, eating out with a friend? Of course it should be commonplace! Why would he suspect anything more? And he expects to have friendly conversation with him as well, though not on this subject. The subject knots itself in his stomach and he has been partially thankful for people avoiding the subject around him to a degree. Though Gamagori has seen results of Mankanshoku's leaving, especially in the actions of Matoi.]
[It's- unfortunate but- he has many thoughts here. None of which he'll indulge in right now, and gives Sanageyama a small nod, removing his military cap, having just left work to meet him here.]
Have you order already? My apologize! I hadn't realized I was late! [He's not of course, exactly ontime. But Sangageyama was heerearly. He feels ashamed!]
I will order a smaller portion. [NOD. It will be his punishment.]
whaaaat
[Please, calm down. The two of them are just hanging out, it's nbd, Gamagori doesn't have to start punishing himself for every little thing...or, well, Sanageyama would rather he didn't.
He leans forward from his chair and pops two menus out of the holder on the table, sliding one over to Gamagori and taking the other for himself, leaning back again as he starts looking it over.]
How was work?
no subject
[Well this is him calm, or at least starting to wind down. His job is very similar to his role back at the school and he spends the entire time rather tightly wound. It takes a short while for him to fall into a more tranquil state afterwards.]
[Picks up the menu, tilting it up, his eyes focus down to it.]
Enjoyable, as it often is, though I would still prefer to work with imPorts.
no subject
[Those dudes Gamagori does yell at don't have a choice.
Same with Honnouji, really.
He places the menu down, hands moving to rest behind his head.]
Probably gonna order some ice cream. You know what you want?
no subject
no subject
Said in the flattest of tones.]
No.
no subject
[As long as he doesn't think so.]
How have you been, Sanageyama? Have you taken on any new responsibilities since we last spoke? [Thanks the waitress as she comes by, handing her the menu and uttering an order for a club sandwich.]
no subject
Anything new...oh, well, I quit my job to become a mercenary.
The guy running the operation can fight, I'll give him that.
no subject
no subject
[FIGHTING, YEAH!!]
no subject
[He thinks you could be good at it. Maybe soccer. Since sword fighting here isn't- exactly common.]
no subject
[A beat. It seems like a good suggestion, but...]
I don't actually like most sports, you know.
[It was just sort of his job at the academy. And he couldn't do much else, all things considered.
But it's definitely something he thinks a lot about; Sanageyama has absolutely no idea what to do now that he's graduated. Everyone else had interests that gave them some kind of career path or, in Gamagori's case, he has somewhere to go.
Sanageyama just lived to fight, even before Honnouji. Now that that's over, well, he has no idea where to go.
It's mainly the reason he likes it here so much. The hero thing suits him perfectly.]
no subject
It was a suggestion at what you would be good at, not what you would enjoy. Every man must broaden himself, even in ways he holds less dear to his heart. You never know where these new things may lead you, Sanageyama. [As in, you're a one trick pony, you should fix that.]
no subject
It sure would be hypocritical of him not to take advice he agrees with, really.]
...well, yeah. I'll think about it.
But it's okay right now, I mean, there's obviously demand for it here. So it's not a big deal.
[But that's exactly what he's going to do, what a baby.]
no subject
no subject
He should have asked, but there ya go.]
Anyone who wants us, basically; the government too, or local places if they need security for something. We take what we can get.
no subject
Us? [A chuckle.] Another band of misfits, Sanageyama?
1/2
But this is different. It depends on who it is, but killing for money would just feel dishonorable.]
Apparently, yeah. I mean I haven't met all of them so I don't know what the others are really like, but I guess it's a new team.
[Although his loyalty lies with you guys, ultimately. No doubting that.]
no subject
Anyway, anyway, forget about that. I'll be honest, I didn't just ask you here to talk...I mean I did, but.
I want to ask you about something.
no subject
[After everything that's happened. All of them- not just his current company- have changed a lot, and for the better. It could be said they are far better people for what happened.]
Yes? Go ahead. [Nods, to both Sanageyama and the waitress when they are given their food.]
no subject
How've you been...doing.
I mean...with Mankanshoku leaving and all.
no subject
hand't really expected that but on the other hand, should he 'ave?]
[His expression goes stoic for a moment, looking down and trying not to indulge in the temptation to fidget with his hands.]
I've been fine. Mankanshoku will be fine. There is no reason for concern.
no subject
[Just giving Gamagori a look here, like, "are you reallllly sure".]
So I just wanted to make sure you were okay. You two seemed pretty close.
[Why, he'll never understand.]
no subject
We were not close, Sanageyama. [Though his manner of speaking now is- a bit different from before. More restrained, quieter.]
no subject
[Not stated like a question, just flatly, as if he isn't buying it. Wanna know why he isn't buying it? Because the Shingantsu makes it far too easy to tell when other people aren't being honest with him. He picks up his spoon from the table, digging into his ice cream to take a spoonful.]
You know, my Shingantsu tells me a lot about people when I'm talking to them.
Like when they're not being honest.
[Then he puts the spoon in his mouth, giving Gamagori another look.]
no subject
I'm- not sure what you desire me to say. [His brows furrow slightly, glancing down. His face has always looked 'older' but the frowned look he pulls on now makes him look all the more. The lines forming on his brow, the almost weary look in his eyes.]
To Mankanshoku, I am what I am to you. A shield, a fellow fighter, soldier, student, friend even- perhaps. [A slight hitch. Like the words are- painful. Painful because- yes- they are true. He is being honest. It's not something that really hurts him. It's not as though he's pined over her for some time! No, of course not. But to feel so- strangely transparent near someone he considers this close, Sanageyama- it's- difficult for him. He's a bulwark. A strong shield- to feel like he is bearing a crack is not something he enjoys.]
no subject
And, well, so does he really. But.]
But what about her to you?
no subject
Silence. A strong silence, directing his gaze down to the table top. He's not sure how he can put it into words or if it matters at all. He feels as though- it does not. As long as Mankanshoku is happy and safe- as long as all those he cares for are happy and safe.]
[Yes. Course.]
[...So why does he still feel strange?]
no subject
He pauses, takes another spoonful of ice cream to eat, then idly holds the spoon between his fingers, pointing it at Gamagori.]
Look-
[...poetic shounen nonsense it is.]
-no matter how great the shield, they're all in need of a strong support! Without that, even the sturdiest of them would fall after a while.
So all I'm saying is...
[Digging that spoon into his ice cream again.]
...if you do need to talk about it, I've got your back. Even if it's not right now.
[And taking his third mouthful of ice cream now, hoping for a response this time.]
no subject
[But you're right, the shonen talk, it's expected from you, always is- sometimes it's- painful but... He needed it. Gamagori finds himself meeting the gaze of his friend as quickly as those words leave him and a smile spreads over his face, brows furrowing.]
Thank you- I can assure you- if I... even knew what to say about this, I would. [But what could he... He's not used to feeling this way about someone- not romantically anyway. He's not quite sure this is romantic either. Is the loneliness he's feeling just due to being away from home? Away from what duty he had there? Away from his mother? Or would he like something else.]
[Yeah- not sure how to talk about these sort of feelings...]
I can assure you- whatever I am feeling did not get in the way during our time back home! I did not waste any of it mindlessly- flirting. [Huff. Despite what Nonon or anyone else might say!]
no subject
[Old man flirting.
But he laughs, a more quiet and reserved one rather than his usual boisterous one. Even if he knows Gamagori is trying to be serious about this, it's so funny watching him deny that kind of stuff.
Even if it's true and he wasn't actually, it's still too tempting to tease.]
But I'll take your word for it, and I'm grateful to you for taking it to heart. A team doesn't just support each other on the battlefield, after all.
Plus I know a thing or two about...well. You get the idea.
[His situation, as it were.
There, see, he won't even explicitly mention your very obvious crush.]
no subject
Yes. Well. As do I- you came to me for guidance if you remember. [A little prideful there, but only to try and drift away from his own embarrassment.]
It doesn't matter now. Mako has departed this place and from the looks of it we will be in attendance here for quite some time! Romance is not high on my list of goals.
[And he hasn't really gained any other crushes. He's had friends, but nothing else has arisen from it. After all, this place is enough to get used to and Gamagori had a tendency to busy himself.]
