[ The walk to Jayden's place of residence isn't a long one, so after Sasha finds something decent to wear — a casual skirt and blouse combo — she's outside the front door, scanning the doorway for the doorbell to press. When she does find it, she ends up holding onto the button a little longer than most would, causing the bell's ring to drag on longer without meaning to. Eventually, she pulls away from the button and takes a step back, waiting for Jayden to emerge from the other side of the door. ]

[Jayden answers a few minutes later, in his usual t-shirt and jeans combo, but he did make sure they're clean. BEST FOOT FORWARD FOR GIRLS AND STUFF.]

Hey.

[He slips out the door and pulls it shut behind him, fast, because there's a dinosaur living in there now and that's something he'd rather not have to explain to anyone.]

You look nice.

[And she does, so he smiles, a bit nervously.]

[ She tilts her head curiously at how quick his movement is, but decides not to ask. She waves a hand politely and steps back, allowing him more room to exit. ]

Oh. [ She looks down at her dress. ] Thank you. I think I'm really starting to like the clothes of this land.

Are you ready?

Oh, right. I guess fashion has to be different where you're from, huh?

[He has a sudden image of Victorian floor-length dresses and such... this is definitely better.]

Yeah. The place I'm thinking of is like fifteen minutes away. Do you mind walking?

Most of our clothes are simpler than the ones here. Less colors and styles, unless you're wealthy.

[ Think more along the lines of pre-Industrialization, Jayden! ]

Walking is fine.

[ Even under this heat, she'll manage. She looks up at the sun, careful not to stare directly into it before she moves off the porch. ]

I guess that makes sense.

[He knows a little bit more about her world because he's been talking to Annie... but he's not sure he should mention he's been talking to Annie. Since she's a war criminal and all, and Sasha's a soldier. But what are the odds they know each other, right? ...Still, probably better to keep it quiet.

He leads her out to the street and turns a corner, walking toward a more populated section of town via sidewalk.]

So.... how've you been? How's school?

[A smooth start.]

[ Sasha still hasn't sorted through her feelings or thoughts on Annie. It had slipped her to some degree back home because of the amount of things that kept happening; there hasn't been time to sit down and think about the friends who may or may not be friends anymore when she, with what's left of the 104th, are still struggling to survive.

She sticks beside him, a little excited spring in her walk, eager to try more food she's never had before.

But when Jayden asks about school, it stops, distracted by the talk of school. ]

Ehh... boring. PE is the only class worth the time. [ A pause. ] Geography isn't so bad, but it's still a lot to go over. Why are there so many states here?

[That gets a laugh out of him.]

I dunno, but I always thought a nice even fifty had to be a ploy of some kind. Do you think they were always aiming for that number or something? And once they hit it they stopped?

[huntergames]

Maybe how they divided the land?

[ But then she shakes her head, recalling what the map of the US looks like in her head. ]

Such a vast amount of territory, too... it must be ten times as big as the territory we've held onto back home. Maybe more.

[ And everyone lives freely, for the most part. It's still jarring to think about after all this time. ]

I dunno. You can kinda tell they cut up the older states into small sections. The farther west you go, the bigger they get. Maybe they did hit a point where they were like, we need to cover more ground or we're going to have hundreds of states.

[He nods to her.]

Yeah, you have... space inside walls, right? Three or something?

[Where did he hear that? Oh, no one... just Annie.]

[ She takes a moment to imagine hundreds of separate states and quickly shakes her head; is that even possible to accomplish? Sasha can't wrap her head around it.

It mostly goes forgotten when Jayden inquires about the walls. She glances sidelong at him, partially surprised he knows about them in the first place. She doesn't recall telling him about the walls, so maybe he's spoken to Armin or Jean or possibly the Commander or Captain. ]

Mm, there are three walls: Maria, Rose, and Sina. Maria is the outermost wall, then it's Rose. Sina is the innermost.

Huh. How'd they get those names?

[He's heard the names before, too. But in a split second decision, he realizes he doesn't quite want to admit he's been asking a known war criminal about Sasha's world. Better to play dumb.]

[ Sasha's eyes trail skyward, looking thoughtful for the briefest of moments because she allows a lackadaisical shrug in stead. ]

I don't know. I've never read about it in the history books.

The Walls in general, or who named them?

About who named or who built them. It was so long ago now. The records might be lost.

Huh, that's kinda weird, isn't it? Just to have stuff there and not know who built it. Like Stonehenge or something.

We know it was what was left of mankind. They built the walls to keep the titans out.

[ Or keep themselves in for some mysterious reason. ]

What about the people who stayed outside the walls?

[Annie told him she was from outside the walls, but either couldn't or chose not to elaborate much. Jayden's wondering about the people who built the walls, if maybe it wasn't just titans they wanted to keep out.]

Oh, uh, it's this ancient rock sculpture, basically. No one knows who built it or why. I guess it's not really the same, but I was reminded of it.

I don't know much about the villages outside the walls. It's more dangerous, however; the titans can show up any time and there's no way to reach these villages fast enough to help.

[ She glances at him curiously. ]

Statues? How big are they?

[So they do know about other humans outside the walls.]

Does anyone from outside get to move inside? Or is it like... you need permission to do it or something?

[He shrugs, a little helplessly.]

I'm not really sure. I've seen pictures but I've never been there. Taller than a person. I dunno by how much.

You can do it, but space is already limited as it is. Thousands of civilians were sent out on a mission to retake Wall Maria a few years ago, but they were all killed. General Pixis had said the government forced them out because they couldn't support them.

[ Her expression is grim for a moment. ]

Space, food, and resources are limited because of the titans.
