WHO: Erwin Smith and YOU
WHERE: Various locations around Heropa
WHEN: Sept 13-16th
WHAT:
WARNINGS:
a. Stables; Open
By the end of the ride, both Erwin and the horse were sweaty, smelling of dirt, mud splattered across his boots. It didn't bother him, if anything it was a welcome change from sitting around the house working on paperwork.
Jupiter had been a lucky find, a purchase from an owner looking for someone willing to put in a little work with a stubborn horse. Erwin found the horse responded well to his commands though, there was still some work ahead of them but there was promise. He let the horse slow to a slower trot on a loose rein as they neared the stables, giving him time to start cooling off. The sun was bright overhead, Erwin looked up as he squinted against the light for a moment.
It was expensive to keep a horse here, between the cost of space at the stables and other costs but it was well worth it for these moments when he felt some semblance of familiarly of his old life. Jupiter slowed to a walk and Erwin dismounted near the stables so they could walk the rest of the way to allow for a proper cool down. There were others around today, taking advantage of the good weather but he didn't particularly mind, letting Jupiter stop to drink at one of the water troughs.
b. Farmer's Market; Closed to Levi
There were times when Erwin wondered what he was doing with his life. This moment came as he was holding several bags while trying to keep Ginger from pulling on her leash. They had been out for a few hours now and Erwin could feel the headache building pressure behind his eyes.
"Is this really necessary?" he had to ask after a few moments of Levi critically looking over some supposedly all natural soaps, nearly stumbling as Ginger yanked on her leash to try to bark at some birds over in the grass. "We need to start finishing up, I have work to do back home," he said firmly as he shifted the bags in his hands. Blue eyes were narrowed, he was becoming less than amused with Levi's tendency to argue with seemingly every vendor here on everything from the freshness of the tomatoes to what exactly was in 'all natural' soap. While Erwin was all for making sure their budget was strictly adhered to, there always came a time when he was willing to throw it out the window to cut this short.

After going through every iteration of the benefits of all natural, home grown, vegan and cheese, the whole shebang that sort of thing the vendor under the giant awing who smelled vaguely like they needed soap themselves and some other earthy, noxious smell had at least squeezed in a deal that Levi found acceptable. That transaction had taken somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty minutes, and it was nowhere near the top ten in tortuously drawn out deliberations made between Levi and the now acrimonious free-range crowd who were only trying to sell their homemade cinnamon decoration brooms and pesticide free everything else.
Levi got the soap but stopped himself from picking up the cinnamon broom; he thought it was ridiculous to wreck a perfectly good broom like that just so your front hall could smell of chemically recreated spices. Why everyone in the world was so obsessed with how each individual room smelled of was just beyond him. Once they passed the scented candles stand he about lost it.
"What?" Levi wandered back towards Erwin with another bag being added to the growing collection balanced precariously in Erwin's grip as he wrestled it and Ginger's hundred something pounds of excitability. That this was supposed to be a nice afternoon out had fallen by the wayside after the first hour on Levi's side of things. "Then take the dog and head back- I can walk."

As Levi came up to to hand him yet another bag, Erwin didn't reach out to take it. "Then you're taking the dog, I'm not getting her into the car with everything else," he pointed out. Getting Ginger into the car tended to be an exercise in frustration for Erwin, she often tended to sit down and refuse to budge or try to run off in the opposite direction instead. Either way, it wasn't something he was inclined to attempt at the moment. Whatever semblance to a 'nice afternoon out' was gone as Erwin felt his patience growing thinner by the moment.

Levi had and would readily run a prized war horse into the ground past exhaustion that it fell dead to save his own life and the lives of his subordinates, but these were changed circumstances. Erwin was being an ass. That entire afternoon any attempt to get a word in edgewise when he was extending himself past his own unconcern to be exactly chatty was shut down. One could imagine two stone walls would not be talkative even when facing each other.
"There isn't that much," Levi lifted his latest bag of wax beans and fresh kale up for emphasis, "Just let me get her in the car and I'll walk."

"I propose you just take the dog and walk home with her. I'm sure since it's not that much you can handle it," Erwin snapped, perhaps a little more irritated than he had intended but once it was out, he wasn't take it back. He held out the leash for Levi to take instead of taking the bag. "I seem to find myself caring for your dog more days than not."

"Fuck," Levi breathed out sharply through his nose as he snatched Ginger's leash out of his hand and found enough give that fortunately she was entirely oblivious to what was going on around her- instead content to wag her tail through the grass. People were starting to stare with the animosity between them coming off in waves that turned heads and hurried the gait of anyone who walked by.
"You've changed since coming here so much that I'm having a hard time telling one bitch from the other." Leash in had as well whatever he had already carried, Levi was turning sharp on the heels of his shoes towards the sidewalk ready to walk home and leave Erwin to whatever fit he had gotten himself into. He was already making his way down the road and out of earshot because frankly this was a fire Levi had no intention of putting out on his own.

Erwin's eyes narrowed dangerous but but before he had a chance to respond, Levi was walking away. He wasn't going to go after him, not after that. Despite the stairs of onlookers, Erwin turned on his heel as well to go the opposite direction. He was sure Levi could make it home just fine with the dog but he had every intention of turning his phone off for awhile and letting Levi stew on things.
