A // ICE CREAM // CLOSED TO KON

Jane was still coming to terms with having Mjolnir deem her worthy—she was not ever going to assume that she “possessed” the magical hammer. But, she was pushing those thoughts aside for the moment to hang out with a friend. She was ecstatic that Kon was getting into the sciences and was looking forward to hearing what he had been up to in those studies.

“Hey there!” she called when she saw him outside of the ice cream shop.


B // CHILI & MOVIES // CLOSED TO DAVID

It had been a while since she had hung out with David and that was a total shame. A movie night where they could just gorge on some good junk food and rip horrible movies apart was just what they needed. Jane hoped they could make it a regular thing, maybe include some more friends and really have a hilarious time picking apart scientific mess ups. If an entire movie could be thrown off by a simple Google search, did it deserve to exist?

“Door’s unlocked!” she shouted from the kitchen, keeping an eye on the nachos. For some reason, they were being finicky. It had been a while since she made them last, so she did a trial run. And they burned. David would likely smell some smoke still.


C // HANGAR EXPERIMENTS // CLOSED TO KNOCK OUT

Jane was still always going to be amazed at Knock Out’s hangar. She had long gotten over the size of it, but the machines and technology it contained was still amazing. If only she had a few million years to work on projects, gather knowledge, and find new ways to apply it. But, immortality was a catch-22 and she didn’t want to be philosophical today.

No, today was about seeing what the hammer could do, but in a controlled space. Hopefully his machinery could withstand some sparks.

“Hey, Knock Out! Hope I’m not too early!”


D // BATTLING A PEST // OPEN

When not experimenting on something or neck deep in research, Jane can be found doing all sorts of mundane things: teaching a class, holding some tutoring sessions, getting coffee, taking her laundry to the cleaners, getting gum stuck on the bottom of her shoe. Living in Heropa is no more stable than any other part of this world, but it was slowly becoming home.

“Oh my god—!”

People jumped out of the way as Jane ran down the street, chasing after a … squirrel?

“Give that back!”

Ahead of her, weaving around people’s legs with ease, was indeed a squirrel with a clump of napkins in its mouth.

“I need those! Give me back my notes!”

"Giant. Fucking. Geodes. IN the mantle. That movie makes me so angry," David grumbles. The thing drives him mad.

But the Superman movie is a mess. And he loved it for that purpose.

"Ugh," she muttered. "I haven't seen this movie before, so quick question: did they explore anything that they had found like those caves in Vietnam that are so deep clouds can form in them?"

Oh, it was a lovely mess. All of them were.

"Nope, no cool real life things," David sighs.

This movie was only violent disregard for science.

"Such a missed opportunity. They could have gone in so many interesting directions."

They were dealing with aliens. What did they expect?

"Yes, but remember, this is made by people who don't even care what real geology and physics look like."

So why should one ever expect something good from them?

True, true. But it was nice to be surprised every once in a while.

“Yeah. I gotta give them the respect they deserve. Which is none. This is like Don Quixote: reality is so much better than fiction.”

Well, she's not wrong there. Though sometimes he has to think that fiction would be better. It tended to have happy endings. This? This was just trite.

He picks up his plate and grins as he moves to the living room.

"We've got SO MUCH movie to mock right now. It's going to be good.

[bifroster]

Ah, yes. Happy endings. And explosions. Jane liked those too.

She laughed as she followed him, making sure to grab a roll of paper towels, just in case. She was not the neatest eater.

"Oh, yes," she replied. "Like, are any of them actually geologists?"

"I feel bad for the people who are geologists who are paid as consultants and are completely ignored."

Those people probably got laughed at by their fellows.

Jane winched.

"Should we watch the credits and see if anyone is on there? I'd want my name removed from the project if that were the case."

[helpdesk_hero]

"I'd refuse to sign the contract to get my name on there. But I guess there's always the 'special thanks' which they can put you in like it or not."

And that's not actual credits but people will THINK you did something.

"Oh god, that is even worse."

Hopefully, though, if any scientists were involved, others in the community quickly realized they weren't listened to at all. That could easily sink someone's reputation.

"There needs to be a disclaimer. 'No Scientist's reputations were hurt in the making of this story'."

Which he doubts is very accurate.

Oh, hardly.

"Maybe 'no scientists tried to kill any of us' would make it more creditable."

[helpdesk_hero]

Oh god, he bursts out laughing, shaking his head.

"That is the best ever."

[bifroster]

Jane giggles.

"It really is. We should make this a regular thing."

[helpdesk_hero]

They should. So they can talk and connect and David can science with someone. What else does he have to do? Except for everything.

"Come on, let's settle down with this."

Hey, life was all about balance, and Jane would happily help him with anything he needed. Even if it was just to chill.

"Sounds good."
