[CLOSED]
WHO: Stephen Strange (
timestones) & Noah Czerny (
deadthing)
WHERE: An interception point before Ronan's attempt to bring his boyfriend back
WHEN: Backdated to early February
WHAT: Scaring a ghost. But not hurting him. Or exorcising. Honest
WARNINGS: TBA
The thing about being something of a maverick Master of the Mystic Arts in his world, and the only one in this world, is that rules are arbitrary. But even if Stephen has some unorthodox approaches to the Arts, there are some hard lines. The integrity of the world is, ultimately, his chief concern, but he's not the magical police. In a way, maybe he's still a doctor in more than title and past alone, just now it's more in a mystical sense.
In either case, catching spirits is no easy task, but what he hopefully has is the element of surprise. It's not like there are too many beings in the space between the corporal and the astral--Ronan did say he needed to avoid being haunted, after all, so chances of catching the specter in a non-bodily form isn't a bad bet.
Stepping through Astral Dimension, sure-footed and calm, Stephen approaches the ghostly form of the boy from behind.
"You must be Ronan's friend."
If he's anticipated this correctly, this will be a rather unexpected spirit-to-spirit greeting.

...As one might imagine, it's kind of freaking him out. So he's already at peak stress when the unfamiliar voice addresses him. His shoulders visibly twitch and he turns around.
"Yeah?" His tone is cautious. "Do you know where he is?"
Who is this guy?

Now, having lost track of time spent in this bodyless form, Stephen is quite at ease. It's a stark contrast to the livingdead boy turning to face him.
"Yes," he answers honestly, because Ronan sent him the location, but that wasn't the question.
Instead, a deflection.
"Does Ronan's Friend have a name that's his own?"
no subject
"Noah," he replies slowly, then presses, "Why are you here? Is he okay?"
His imagination is already running wild with worst case scenarios, what Ronan might be doing and why he can't reach him—and now he's afraid of what this spectral stranger wants with him.

He offers a hand, perhaps frustratingly calm in his slow, methodical approach to things that don't really matter and certainly don't answer the dead boy's questions immediately.
"And I'm a Master of the Mystic Arts. It's sort of a esoteric title, I know, but what it ultimately means is that it's my job to protect the fabric of realities from splitting."
He lets that information hang there, taking his sweet time laying down stepping stones for Noah to walk upon if he wants to. But, then, as a bit of a sidethought, he adds.
"Oh, and Ronan's fine. Or at least he is right now. And should be. As long as he doesn't do anything especially stupid that I can't fix. Always a possibility."
no subject
He can't quite keep up with the flow of information—sorry, what was that about realities splitting?—and he's not liking any of it one bit. In general or in this context. "If that's- If he's-" Noah sputters. "Shouldn't you be keeping an eye on him? To be sure?"
It's a relief to hear that Ronan's fine (for now) but come on. Don't just leave it at that. Knowing Ronan, he's almost certainly doing something stupid. If not right at this particular moment, then soon enough.
