Maurtia Falls faces a lot of unfortunate circumstances on the whole, but this emergence of shadow monsters -- heartless, as they're known -- has really added fuel to the fire. The little shadow blobs are annoying enough in the little hordes they move in, but easily out paced or beaten away with a shopping bag or purse.

Unfortunately, there's bigger things out there now.

When their hearts were torn free, Lucina and Guzma split -- in more than one sense -- and where they scattered, those animate pieces of their former selves have been loosed upon the city at large, and where they go, violence follows.

[shinkuu isn't so sure this is... right? would Fuu just stand here and watch as these monsters terrorize the street?

fuu is cautious, right? there's too many to handle on her own, especially if lucina is intent on just watching it happen, so... yes, maybe this is right?]

[she turns her gaze away to fix back on the creature.]

I've asked it to do this, and it obeys without hesitation.

Oh, I see. I misunderstood.

...You are Lucina, aren't you?

[that gives her pause. she looks down at the sword at her hip. Lucina's sword.

then she looks to Fuu.]

More or less. And you're you, aren't you?

[Lucina, more or less.]

I'm less. [much less. but not so much as to not notice the way this woman looks to her sword, as though that is what confirms her identity more than anything else. shinkuu has a weapon as well, but she hasn't tried to use it yet. what strikes her more is the lack of connection with Windam.] You see, I don't know Lucina very well. But from what I do, she wouldn't send a monster to tear up the street.

And I think I would do something about it.

Is that what you mean to do now? Or is that also less an issue for you. [she can't feel it, but part of her knows impatience would be right at home here.

she frowns, giving Fuu a more displeased look.] You are welcome to try, but you will have to cut through me to do it.

That would be my last resort. [Because she's evaluating Lucina now from a tactical perspective. Apart from the fact that "cutting through her" would probably be quite upsetting under normal circumstances, Shinkuu doesn't really think she's capable of it. Certainly not without being injured herself, probably fatally.] First I think I should find out your motivations. What are they?

Does it really interest you to know? [she squints a bit, trying to discern...something. considering previous encounters, she expects a bit more friction -- maybe she even wants it. fighting seems like the right thing to do, and even better were it to defend herself; she's not as mindlessly chaotic as the heartless is, crunching on someone's car like that.]

It would be very useful. I don't have much to base my decision-making on apart from facts.

[because as it turns out--pretty much every decision people make is governed by feelings? she hadn't realized it before, but the truth of that is plain enough in a situation as extreme as this.]

[that gets a bit of a sigh out of Lucina, who shifts in stance, folding her arms.]

This creature has the makings of someone I know. Or knew. I don't know what became of him, but I know he can't resist chaos like this.

I mean to draw him out to me by way of this creature.

[she shakes her head a little.]

It is no longer about caring. It is about...purpose. I remember what I cared for, and even though I no longer feel it, I know that...having it again...is valuable.

So I will seek it out.

[she pauses.]

There is nothing else worth doing, anyway.

[Shinkuu thinks about what Fuu deemed her purpose. It wasn't something she ever wrote down, mind. But it was fairly clear.]

I too believe it is useful to hold to what we once felt purpose in. But is one purpose more important than others? [...] What if that creature stops damaging property and starts damaging people?

I can't care about that anymore.

[blunt, almost hardened with a stubbornness that would be akin to being too focused on duty.] So I will not look to it now. The warning was issued, so there is no excuse for any to be in the way now.
