[ Instead of texting, Xichen shows up, and doesn't hesitate to reach a hand and grip Wangji's arm. His brother is not fond of physical contact, but they are different.

This is different.

Tangible evidence that he is there and all right matters. ]

We will find Sizhui, Wangji. I will do my best to keep the other two close, but if young master Wei is as Jin Ling was described, that might also not be the greatest choice.

[ There are a couple weird things about Wangji, today. For one, he isn't wearing his usual robes - they were utterly destroyed in the fight that changed Wei Wuxian. So he's wearing a vague modern attempt at them instead, though his hair is still up and fashioned as neatly as ever, and his headband sits perfectly on his brow.

His face and demeanor still seem poised as ever, but Xichen would instantly be able to see the sharp undercurrent of worry and stress that has his blood nearly vibrating on the inside.

He closes his eyes for the briefest second, composing himself. His brother is right. Bad not to mix them. ]

Then told to stay together. Or search with me.

[ He hated leaving Wei Ying, but he had already failed to save him. He still had time to save Sizhui. ]

[ Oh, Xichen knows. Xichen knew even before he came here, but now he knows better, how difficult it is for his brother. He wishes, once again, to take it all away from him.

Once again, he is powerless.

Once again, the most he can do is be strong for him, and give him what safety he can. ]

Wangji... be careful. Strange dangers, here. Getting hurt will aid neither.

[ His eyes lower. ]

[ For that’s what they were - twisted, soulless, heartless demons pulled from loved ones. And then a shell left behind. ]

I will not be harmed. [ Not physically. ]

[ Xichen's voice is quiet. In front of the eyes of strangers, he will not reach to hold him, but his grip on his brother's arm shifts until it conveys more. ]

It is not failing to fall to a surprise attack. But despairing when we are needed, we cannot do that. [ Maybe later. ] We will all do our best to see this situation improved, resolved.

And I will not get hurt either.

[ Because. One less thing to weigh down on Wangji. ]

[ Despair. He’d lived with it before, possibly for sixteen years, though it’s sharpness had ebbed and flowed.

It was hope he’d grown unused to. ]

I will not falter.

[ Even in despair, he would follow to where the chaos was.

But he nodded his gratitude to the last. If he lost Xichen too...

He tried to imagine the man the way Wei Wuxian now was. Empty. It horrified him. His brother’s heart was the largest he knew. ]

I must go. I will not waste time.
