[OPEN] Settling In
WHO: Lan Jingyi and OTA :)
WHERE: Maurtia Falls #006 & Elsewhere
WHEN: The Month of February
WHAT: Jingyi's got people to meet and places to go.
WARNINGS: Will update as needed.
Moving In
(Open to Jingyi's new roommates. :))
Jingyi is not used to the architecture of this strange new world and he's thrown a little by the townhouse he is apparently living in for the foreseeable future. Still, he is meant to stay here, and so he finds his way inside to the bottom floor and then simply...stops. He underestimated how different this would be.
Taking everything in with wide eyes, he finds himself observed by someone...not in robes and a headband, so he can tell very little about them. Immediately, a smile springs to his face. "Hello! Do you live here as well?"
Chicken Dance
The chicken costume is very large and very warm, though the overcast days in Maurtia mean that this is not an entirely bad thing. Still, he encourages people to go to eat chicken by standing on a corner of two streets and flapping his arms at them. It is very much not dignified, and Jingyi takes a well-deserved break from flapping at people to sit outside the back of ChickenYEET! and take off his head. The breeze is very nice, and in chasing it, he has made it so that he is not very well hidden.
Unfortunately, the breeze also has a mind of its own. His chicken head is caught by a sudden gust and flies its way out of the alley. All that is left is for Jingyi to chase after it. "Hey, come back!"
[ooc: poke me and I'll whip up a custom starter. :)]

Chicken Dance
When he hears the shouts behind him, he reaches up as an afterthought and makes a lucky grab onto the back of the costume prop. Head in hands, he slowly gets up from his crouch and turns towards the alley.]
Goodness, you really do have to stay on your toes in Maurtia Falls.
no subject
[Jingyi skids out of the alleyway in a whirlwind of feathers and felt, hair damp and his headband limp from the heat in the ChickenYEET! suit. His worries that he might have to go chasing his head for a long way are relieved; he did not want to risk damaging the suit.]
Thank you!
[He holds out feathered hands for his head and offers a bright, grateful smile.]
I had only set it down for a second and did not expect it would escape.
no subject
No problem. Crazy things happen sometimes.
[He offers the head back to the person in the chicken suit.]
It looks heavy.
no subject
The suit is a little heavy. It is mostly warm.
[After he inspects the head, finds it fine, he breathes out a little huff of relief. He then tucks the head under his arm.]
Thank you again. I'm Lan Jingyi. How might I call you?
[Traffic passes along the way, and Jingyi seems not to notice that they're standing in full view, him in a headless chicken suit.]
no subject
[He's torn between offering his hand to shake and bowing. He ultimately decides to do neither, following the other man's lead.]
Perhaps we should head into the alley... [Lest he scare some poor unsuspecting child.]
no subject
Oh! That might be good.
[He beckons Roland with one wing.]
It smells somewhat. [...it is an alley.] I do not have very long until I must go out and wave my arms again. But.
Thank you again.
[He sticks to the center of the alley, keeping his poor suit away from anything it might soak in and make his life miserable for the rest of the day.]
I am curious? You do not seem like one of the people taking pictures and screaming. Does this mean that you are also an...imPort? They call us imPorts?
no subject
[He follows shortly behind.]
And I'm just glad I was able to help.
Screaming in a good way...? [He really hopes people aren't running away screaming from this poor guy just trying to do his job.
At the question, he nods, turning his wrist to show off the nanite tattoo.] That I am. I'm going to guess that you're new.
no subject
Good screaming for them, but bad screaming for me. They seem to think I am some sort of interesting person?
[He really has no idea.]
I am very interesting, but that does not mean I need to be screamed at.
[The tattoo gets inspected. Jingyi holds up his own wrist, which is unfortunately still covered in chicken suit, so he cannot directly compare. He frowns at his wrist in disappointment.]
I am, yes, very new. This is only one of my first few days here, both in this world as well as wearing this suit. Are you new also?
no subject
[Poor Jingyi.]
I've been here a few months shy of a year, actually. I can definitely try to answer any questions you might have, or show you around if you're almost done with your shift. Maurtia Falls isn't my porter city, but I know it well enough.
no subject
[The opportunity to have a tour-guide is too good and he pounces on the idea.]
But a guide? Yes! If you are willing, I would accept your offer. I will be done very soon and then can give them back the suit for the day. Will you wait here for a little for me to come out?
no subject
[He'd rather not hang out next to a dumpster.]
no subject
Outside the alley and around the front! I will be there very soon.
[Another smile and Jingyi disappears through the back door into the ChickenYEET! shop. It takes him only a small amount of time to convince the person who is managing the place that it is time for him to go. It takes a slightly longer amount of time for him get out of the mascot outfit and out to the sidewalk in front of the store.
He arrives in full regalia: white robes and white headband, both decorated with clouds, a sheathed sword held in one hand and a smile on his face. He still looks a little wilted from the suit, but his enthusiasm does not seem to have dimmed.]
You are still here? I hope I did not take too long?
no subject
I'm beginning to suspect everyone around here carries some kind of a sword.
no subject
I would not go anywhere without mine, but you do not seem to be? Have you met many others that do, besides me?
[Ooc: ~two months later. I dropped off the planet last month, but I have returned with a vengeance! I'd be up for continuing this, or starting something new. :) ]
no subject
I don't go anywhere without mine either. I'm just a bit more discreet about it.
[OOC: It's good! RL happens!]
no subject
Oh! It is very different than mine!
[Without an ounce of self-consciousness, or any regard for passerby, he draws his own jian from its white and pale blue sheath (far right~). It is slender, sharp, and clearly a functional workday sword. He holds them up to compare their make.]
Where do you keep it?? I usually hold mine, or have it across my back. It is too much to put it away and not have it ready to be drawn. Even here. But yours came to hand very fast.
[He gestures a little absently at the ostensibly-far-too-small-for-a-sword pouch that hangs at his waist.]
no subject
And just to be a bit of a show-off, there's another flash of light, and now he's holding a completely different fantasy sword. Like the last one, this one has definitely been used and isn't for show.]
I honestly have no idea. It's magic I picked up from the last world I was in.
[A half-truth. While he absolutely has no idea where specifically his blades get stored, he does know that it's somewhere within his armsband, the ring he discreetly wears on his right hand. As he has no desire to have this stolen from him, he's gotten quite good at this particular half-truth.
Not that he has a particular reason to distrust Jingyi, but he has no idea who else might be listening.]
no subject
Ah! Why do you have two swords? When do you have time to use both of them?
[The look used, after all. The flash of light is quite fancy, enough so that Jingyi decides to...also casually show off.]
Last world? That makes you sound like you have been to more than one world.
[As he says this, he lets his spiritual energy slink down the blade of his sword, lighting it a pale blue a similar color to the accents on his robes and headband.]
no subject
In fairness, a lot of that was from the last world--there was a bit of a monster problem.
[To say nothing of everything involving Doloran and his world-conquering tendencies.]
Ha... I have, actually. This is the third world I've been to.
no subject
[Jingyi's curiosity knows no bounds. After a beat, he adds:]
What kind of monsters??
no subject
The world I was in before this one was completely different. It was like something out of a fantasy--cat people, dog people, mouse people, merpeople... feuding kingdoms and real magic.
And yes, the monsters. There were all kinds, from slime to undead skeletons to fairies to giant animals to wyverns and dragons
no subject
[Talk of monsters and magid, though, causes Jingyi's eyes to widen. Partially in...recognition?]
Would you say that my world is a little bit out of fantasy, then? We did not have feuding kingdoms, but the sects had a war when I was very little, and they do not get along all the time anyway. And we have--I think you would call it magic? At least that is what it seems most like, now that I am here.
How did you get there? Was it like this? Did you just go to fight?
no subject
Magic seems the prerequisite for any fantasy story.
[Typically.
When Jingyi asks how he got there, his breath hitches slightly. He doesn't like to think about what happened right before he travelled to another world and met Evan. He can still see the missile streak by when he closes his eyes.]
Oh, I had no say in it. I was transported there one day. One minute I was in my world, the next I was in the bedroom of a young Prince undergoing a coup. It was quite the whirlwind.
It wasn't my intention to fight, but you could say that that's why I was sent there.
no subject
And I think that I will definitely have to ask you for help. [He huffs again, bracing his free fist on his hip and surveying their surroundings. Traffic. People. Some with their eyes lit in interest at the pair of them, but...] The big things are not hard. It is all the small things that keep taking me by surprise. Like--there are so many snacks in small bags that you just throw away afterward! And this is normal! And maybe this is not--
[He stops and shakes himself, visibly discarding the thought.]
If you were sent to fight there, then I do not know if this is similar at all. There does not see to be a purpose to it. Unless you have found one?
no subject
[Pulling Evan away from Aranella was one of the hardest things he's ever had to do.]
Yes, we're a little big on trash in the name of convenience here, I'm afraid...
[And frankly, something he hadn't thought too much of, though he probably should have... too much on his mind, he supposes.]
I'm trying. I think we all are.
