[secondly, archie goes to helix. he doesn't really want to be at home after what he remembers and feeling so... off, so he goes to helix. probably the only other place he feels safe in.

then he orders about twenty pizzas. at least three are for himself.

[ The one way... Finn's not totally sure what Archie means by that. Or, rather, he wishes he didn't have a pretty accurate guess.

Before he can figure out a kind way to bring it up, Poe's name is mentioned... Finn grimaces and puts his slice of pizza back. ]

Yeah... You did, too?

[yeah... let's not go into too much detail on that front. he doesn't want to know what happened to finn-- the idea of him being hurt at all... makes his heart feel like it's turning inside out? weird!]

Yeah. I hope he doesn't remember it. It's not him, but knowin' the guy he might disagree on that front.

[he winces.]

You okay?

[ It was Poe and it wasn't. It was like he was different the same way that Finn had been different from... the last Finn. Different memories, different experiences, different trauma.

He doesn't say anything for a second. ]

Yeah, I'm all right. Tired. [ His elbow props up on the table, hand rubbing at his eyes before stopping and just resting his temple on his palm ] What about you? What can I do?

Tired, [he says in agreement.] You don't gotta do anything, it's alright. Well-- maybe feed the fish for a little bit. I dunno if I fancy going home until he's back.

...However... he gets back.

[groaning, archie drops his head back.]

God fucking damn it. I don't know what to do.

[ The thought of going back home suddenly seemed a lot more difficult to consider than it had a minute ago. Knowing that Archie wouldn't be there with him made it feel emptier than it already was. He can't say he doesn't understand, though. It's a tempting offer for himself.

But he doesn't want to leave Base One for anything. Besides, someone has to take care of the fish. ]

We wait. He'll come back.

[ He had to. Finn sure didn't want to try the alternative.

He leans back in the chair, staring through the table. ] There's not much else to do until then... Except maybe try to figure out how to get ourselves back there. [ If Poe wasn't coming home, then he'd just... try to bring him back again.

That's what he'd been doing, right? He couldn't really recall... ]

...Yeah.

[he wants to believe that, so badly. he wants to believe that poe will come back and he'll be fine, but he knows better. they both know how these things go.]

Maybe we can start by seeing if there's any data picked up here from when it happened...? Power surge, or something.

[ Yeah, well, Finn refuses to accept an alternative. He'll either come back or they'll go find him. Like this, there was no guarantee of anyone porting out for good. He wouldn't be able to stand it. ]

Yeah, okay. The general theory seems to be something about the porters malfunctioning.

[ He isn't so sure, not with the whole Atropos and OTO stuff still fresh in his memory. ]

Again. [he sighs.] I don't even understand how they work now that those sisters left...

[wasn't there something about lachesis's son? he's too tired to work it out. too tired to care.]

I gotta say, this concept of alternate timelines isn't new to me. It's just the first time I've seen it happen to us.

[ Oh. That grabs his attention, making Finn more alert than he'd been in days. ]

Wait, really? What do you mean?

Huh? Oh.

[he looks around for a moment-- they're in the cafeteria. obviously there's no writing material in here.

archie... settles on taking a piece of a pizza box and dunking his finger into some sauce. gross. he's gross.

he draws one line straight across.]

This is, uh. The general history of my world, right? All the things that're similar. [he puts his finger near the start, then draws another line from it.] This timeline didn't have the war in Kalos, so they never discovered mega-evolution.

[he moves it along, a little further. draws a split.]

This is what me an' Maxie did. In one timeline, I woke up Kyogre. In another, he woke up Groudon. Everything else was the same, but which legendary we awoke.

[again, he splits those further two timelines.]

After that, there was a reality that Mossdeep almost created an apocalypse in by sending a giant meteor from ours to theirs. These are the only ones I know of...

[ Gross but the visual helps. Finn's furrowing his brow at it, anyway. ]

How do you know about this at all? From people that came here?

[ Archie had mentioned this Maxie person to him before, but Finn didn't know enough to assume that's what happened. ]

Yuh-huh. Me an' Maxie went through it all with a fine-toothed comb. Luckily we weren't exactly close to any big breaks when he Ported out-- I reckon there are no big breaks. Just... knowing it's a thing.

[there's no other way for him to know, after all, and it's not entirely accurate. unfortunately, archie does not have his fandom wikipedia downloaded into his brain.]

[ Huh... But it is a thing. ]

So... you think that we were just in an alternate timeline? Like another dimension-...? [ That makes getting back a lot more difficult. And the thought of it all, a lot more heartbreaking. ]

Isn't this another dimension?

[ ... ]

[ oh no archie why did you ]

It is!?

I- I thought it was another galaxy or something, but- There are people here from different Earths and different timelines like yours and-

How are we in another dimension? That doesn't make sense!

[helpfully, archie shrugs and gives no answer.]

Dunno. I might be wrong, it's just what I've figured based on the time I've been here.

[ Well... All right? Finn falls back in his chair, feeling pretty tired all over again suddenly. ]

It makes sense, I guess... So if that was another dimension-...

[ Did everything there still exist? Yes? ]

If people from here were brought there, then it makes sense that they'd have to be brought back, right? Just like we usually end up back home.

And the people who were always there- [ They stay there. ]

[oh, yeah, he's feeling a headache coming on. archie was the one that brought this up! he ruminates on what finn says for a few moments.]

I... I guess? To be honest, I hadn't really ever thought of, uh. Different realities within this different reality...?

... But you're from a different reality?

[ Yeah, he's feeling that headache.

Finn groans and leans forward until his forehead is pressed against the table. ] That doesn't matter. The point is, we got there somehow and we got back. That means others can get back. And if we can't, then we can go back.

Somehow.

So are you.

[he watches finn lean forward. mood, buddy. mood. archie puts a hand on his back and gives it a light rub.]

I'm sure the Aegis database has somethin'. We can't all have ported there without there being a spike of energy or whatever.

[ Finn sighs and relaxes into the touch. ]

Yeah, you're right. We'll figure it out.

... And if we were able to go there, maybe the natives of that place can come here, too.
