When the text had hit his phone out of nowhere earlier, reminding him of a date he owed someone, Diego can't say he was thrilled about it. He'd forgotten, if he's honest, and had almost considered trying to get out of it-- but the reason he wanted to back out was, weirdly, the same reason he'd signed up for the damn auction in the first place: Derek Hale, who seems to have completely disappeared. Sent home, by the looks of it.
Still. He couldn't think of a good enough reason to back out, and felt like he owed it to the friend he'd lost to stick it out. So here he was, at the Go-Kart place he'd put down for the date option at the auction with some girl he doesn't know, and he's trying not to let his own mood completely sour the day.
"They've got a race track and bumper cars, I think there's an arcade? What do you want to do first?"
Kenzi hadn't expected to win the date. She only bid because his face is attractive and the date idea sounded pretty cute. Honestly, she'd expected someone to swoop in at the last moment and outbid her but that didn't happen. And you can bet she wasn't about to let this go when she paid as much as she did. So she's glad he didn't back out and make things difficult.
She shows up wearing something a bit more sporty and sensable than usual. "Depends. How competitive are you feeling?"
Diego's decidedly not blind and at least the girl that shows up is cute-- makes it a little less insufferable, if he's completely honest. Even if she does look just this side of a little too young for him. Whatever, it's not like it's a real date anyway.
He can't help the laugh that bubbles up from that question. "I am always feeling competitive." he says, eyebrows arched in a challenge. "And I'm not taking anything easy on you, either." He says with a playfully challenging finger pointed in her direction. He was definitely not raised to believe that women needed to be treated softer-- Allison is living proof that women are nothing like 'lesser'.
What does age matter, except when it does? Kenzi's always liked older guys anyway. But, yes, it's not a real date. Just spending time with someone new as a result of a charity event.
His response is exactly what she was hoping. She grins toothily at him as she claps her hands together. "Good! Then we'll start with go-kart racing. Though I do have to warn you I'm a terrible driver." She's not actually terrible but she's a bit of a speed demon and that's the whole reason she wasn't allowed to drive back home.
[With all the drops and the others in another world, I don't expect replies, but let it be known, a very Alone Ben is reaching out to others in hopes that someone is around.]
