Winter Gala

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Well, mostly. In the wake of a near-apocalyptic event, the city of Jeopardy is in need. What started out as an idea to advertise Rikki Chadwick's burgeoning business, after a little more planning and nabbing some ideas from Kenzi's post, she and Rupert have reconfigured and rebranded their idea to focus less on her and more on the relief effort.


Characters will enter the venue after giving a small donation at the door and they will be greeted by a large room lit in blues, soft pinks, and purples. From the ceilings hang snowflakes made of glass. The centerpieces are also made of glass. Come to think of it, nearly all the decorations are made of glass. Except, that is, the mistletoe hanging from several of the rafters and archways. A buffet-style dinner will be served from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at which point, the buffet tables and seating tables will be cleared away to make room for the makeshift stage for the DJ and a gigantic dance floor.

Drinks will be flowing, music will be playing, and people will be bidding on silent auctions to win everything from one of the centerpieces to a date with their favorite imPort and everything in between. So, eat, drink, and be merry until you can't stay awake any longer. Why not? It's all for a good cause, after all.

Jane giggled, loving how this felt like a conspiracy.

"Then he's a keeper, especially for the snacks. You're going to have to introduce me, because you haven't even told me his name!"

“Ah, but if I introduce you, you might lure him away,” David teases. Not that she could. He thinks. Or would. That one he is more certain of. “His name is Damian Saint Lorrant and he Is around here somewhere, all in white like flawless alabaster.”

Jane laughs, shaking her head. No, she wouldn’t, and if David’s obvious affection was even matched half ways by Damian, then there was no person, being, power, or entity in the universe that could lure him away.

“Alabaster skin, huh? I’ll keep an eye out for him and try not to tease him too much.”

“Not his skin. How he dressed himself,” David laughs and shakes his head lightly. “And bright red hair. And laughter in his eyes.”

Okay so maybe he has a bit of poetry in him for a beautiful man.

“What about you? Anyone I should be giving a shovel talk?”

A little bit, but that makes Jane smile all the more. "Got any metaphors about his voice or hands?"

She bites her lip, because wow. Loaded question.

"No. Thor left around September ... but to be honest, I've mucked things up with Derek. He asked me out on a date, but I just don't fell that way towards him. So it's a bit awkward."

“Ones I can share, or ones I can’t?”

His smile widens more at implying the second. But the smile fades at her news.

“I’m sorry, Jane. You deserve a lot.”

[bifroster]

"Save those for Valentine's Day."

She gives a non-committal shrug.

"Thank you. I just hope we can get past this awkward phase."

Who knows if they ever can get that chance to get her Derek. Because David would happily help her however he could.

“I’ll try, especially as I can keep those hands to myself. But if you ever need help, let me know.”

[bifroster]

Indeed, who knows? Jane supposes it will just take some time. But she appreciates that he wanted to help her.

"Thank you," she said, smiling. "We'll see how it goes. The new year is coming up and that's always a good time for new beginnings."

“New beginnings are whenever we choose to make them,” he counters.

Except, well, he was so terrible at those himself.

[bifroster]

"True," she agreed brightly, but then it faded a little. "But this isn't like starting on a new career path or deciding to finish reading books on a shelf."

She could be a little terrible with beginnings, or starting over, too.

"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be such a downer!"

"I can't connect with that second one. I always read the new books before they go on the shelf."

Sorry, he loves reading, and he wants to laugh.

[bifroster]

Jane laughs. "If only I had that habit. Thankfully, it's only for fiction novels, and not books I need for research."

Reading is an excellent thing to love!

Research. David groans. He's had to work that into his daily routine.

"The world has too much information in it. How are we supposed to keep abreast of it?"

[bifroster]

“I have no idea. I am just about getting swallowed up by teaching methods and best practices and all that,” she answered, thinking of all the books she still has yet to look over. And papers to grade or not grade, she really cannot remember right now. “Never mind everything this world has discovered or not.”

"I tend to stay up on journals while doing my workouts," David admits. So it's a bit easier seeing as he does hours like that.

[bifroster]

"Multitasking, I like it." She grins. "Very Elle Woods of you."

There is a moment where David stares at Jane, jaw dropped. And then he's grinning so wide.

"You like Legally Blonde?"

[bifroster]

Jane’s eyes absolutely light up. “You like it too?”

Is there a movie night in their future?

[helpdesk_hero]

"I ADORE it," David grins. "Because you EXPECT Elle to not get along with so many people but she's so smart and driven and... I used to quote it so much."

[bifroster]

"I know, right?" Jane exclaims. "But she didn't get to be the head of her sorority by making enemies! Plus, her two best friends came across the country to support her first trial after months of not seeing her! It's an amazing movie!"

"It's an amazing movie series," David admits. "And a guilty pleasure of mine. If I could go home and do WHATEVER I wanted, I might actually... I might go into law. For mutants. But who knows how that would play out."

[bifroster]

"I'd say go for it, if you ever get the chance! You'd have a large amount of clientele and could probably make a lot of changes from a legal standpoint!" She pauses. "If you could make a quote from that movie your law firm's slogan or motto, what would it be?"

"There aren't many of us," David shrugs. And no one cares about mutants from a legal standpoint.

"I don't know. I think I'd come up with my own actually."

[bifroster]

No one that also has a law practice, at least. Jane really hopes that changes.

"It would probably go better. Unfortunately, I can see someone poking fun at it once they get the reference."
