It's the most wonderful time of the year! Well, mostly. In the wake of a near-apocalyptic event, the city of Jeopardy is in need. What started out as an idea to advertise Rikki Chadwick's burgeoning business, after a little more planning and nabbing some ideas from Kenzi's post, she and Rupert have reconfigured and rebranded their idea to focus less on her and more on the relief effort.

Characters will enter the venue after giving a small donation at the door and they will be greeted by a large room lit in blues, soft pinks, and purples. From the ceilings hang snowflakes made of glass. The centerpieces are also made of glass. Come to think of it, nearly all the decorations are made of glass. Except, that is, the mistletoe hanging from several of the rafters and archways. A buffet-style dinner will be served from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at which point, the buffet tables and seating tables will be cleared away to make room for the makeshift stage for the DJ and a gigantic dance floor.

Drinks will be flowing, music will be playing, and people will be bidding on silent auctions to win everything from one of the centerpieces to a date with their favorite imPort and everything in between. So, eat, drink, and be merry until you can't stay awake any longer. Why not? It's all for a good cause, after all.

“Thank you!”

Jane comes closer, because while the music was fun, yeah, it could hinder conversations a little. But it was nice to see a friendly face, even though she recognized some people here and there.

“It’s wonderful! You did a really amazing job!”

Rikki looks around. "Yeah, I didn't do too badly, did I?" she asks playfully, grinning. Truthfully, she's actually pretty proud of how everything turned out. "Rupert did all the hard work, though. His idea, and he put most of this together. I reckon I should give credit where it's due, yeah?" she asks, giving an impish little grin.

And he had done a brilliant job, if you asked Rikki.

"Are you having fun?" she asks, turning the conversation back to her friend.

“Still, more than one person has asked about the glasswork. I have been dropping your name as much as possible.”

It was great to hear that someone worked with her with all of this. She didn’t know Rupert, but she’d likely run into him sometime during the evening.

“But I am! Took me a little while to warm up and settle in, but I’m always like that.”

Rikki looks a little surprised at that, but appreciative all the same. "Thanks, mate!" she chirps, happy to hear that not only is Rupert's original plan actually working but that Jane is helping by getting Rikki's name out there. "That's brilliant, I appreciate it!"

It doesn't surprise her that it takes Jane a little bit to get settled into the party enough to actually enjoy herself. Rikki is largely the same way. "Well, I'm glad you're having fun. Have you put yourself up for auction as well or was that not so much for you?"

She pauses. "Erm, I mean, I put myself up in that I'm willing to make a custom piece for someone and let them watch me do it. Not for a date." Not when she finally had Ben and she doesn't think he'd have appreciated it much if she had done. Not that she'd have wanted to, anyway.

“You’re welcome! You deserve it!” And she really did—the work was stunning and anyone could tell that she put a lot of heart into it. There was also the factor that it was made out of water. Anyone would be interested in that part of it too.

At the mention of the auction, Jane becomes a little sheepish. “I did, to raise more money, but I have no idea how well getting a science lesson will go over. Maybe there will be a fellow geek out there, or maybe one of my students is loaded and needs a tutoring session. I’m impressed with the people who are comfortable going on dates.”

Rikki laughs, shaking her head. "Yeah, tell me about it. You couldn't catch me auctioning off a date with me. Even if I wasn't already seeing someone," she replies. "They're brave."

Then she shrugs her shoulders a little. "I reckon you'll do just fine. I'd be surprised if you didn't. Even if there was no one interested in the science, which I'm sure there is, you're really fun to be around, Jane. You might not have auctioned a date, but that doesn't mean someone might not pay to spend some time with you and, bonus, learn something interesting. You never know."

It sounds like the sort of thing Lewis would've done if he'd been here.

Jane flushed, a little embarrassed, but overall pleased at the compliment. “Thanks, Rikki, that means a lot. I’m not the easiest person to always get along with, especially when I get obsessed over some research topic or experiment.”

True, she had been coming out of her shell since coming to this world, but you know what? Now was not the time to dwell on that.

“I think your auction item is going to be really popular, though. Who wouldn’t want a commissioned piece after seeing all this?”

Rikki gives her friend a little shrug. "Oh, I find that really hard to believe, actually," she retorts almost dismissively. She honestly can't imagine Jane not being easy to get along with. Of course she's easy to get on with, why wouldn't she be? Even in focused mode, Rikki reckons if someone isn't an idiot about things and interrupting her, then she imagines Jane is perfectly agreeable.

She might have her friend on a bit of a pedestal because she reminds her a lot of Cleo. It is what it is.

"I really hope so, honestly. I can't really do much else, but I'd really like to be able to bring in some money for the cause," she says hopefully. It'd be nice if she could bring in a few hundred dollars at least, even though she'd started her bidding fairly low.

Rikki has never seen her frustrated about an equation not working out or without her daily caffeine fix. There are plenty of days when she's disagreeable. Cleo might have such days as well, if they were anything alike.

"If not, then you know I'll bid on it," she said. "Or I might even commission you after this regardless. This is just stunning!"

"I would love that, actually," Rikki replies warmly. Either; both. Making a piece for Jane whether for a good cause or not, seemed like it would be a fun process. A bit like making a piece for Ben, she thinks. Spending time with a friend while making them a one of a kind piece with a power she earned by virtue of showing up here? What could be cooler?

She offers Jane a small smile and then looks around. "Right, I reckon I should float around a bit more, all things considered, but I'll come looking for you later, yeah?" she offers, not necessarily wanting to end the conversation but also not having seen Rupert around yet and knowing that one of the hosts needs to mingle. He's probably doing it on purpose because she specified hating parties, the little shit.

There wasn’t a lot—Jane would just love to see the process, even if she wasn’t going to get the piece in the end. Definitely when the party was over and they had a breather from the holidays.

She smiles. “Yeah, no problem—you gotta go and be a hostess. Make sure to snag some of the food before someone else eats it all!”

And with that, Jane gives her a cheerful wave (if slightly awkward, because how does one end conversations like this?) with the hopes of running into her again before the evening is over.
