Winter Gala

WHO: Everyone
WHERE: Jeopardy
WHEN: Saturday, December 21 from 5:00 p.m. onward into the early morning hours of Sunday, December 22.
WHAT: The Winter Gala Fundraiser for Jeopardy Relief Efforts
WARNINGS: Please include any necessary warnings in your TLs.
NOTES: This post will serve as a catch-all for logs for the entire event (though you’re also welcome to post things elsewhere, of course).

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Well, mostly. In the wake of a near-apocalyptic event, the city of Jeopardy is in need. What started out as an idea to advertise Rikki Chadwick's burgeoning business, after a little more planning and nabbing some ideas from Kenzi's post, she and Rupert have reconfigured and rebranded their idea to focus less on her and more on the relief effort.

Characters will enter the venue after giving a small donation at the door and they will be greeted by a large room lit in blues, soft pinks, and purples. From the ceilings hang snowflakes made of glass. The centerpieces are also made of glass. Come to think of it, nearly all the decorations are made of glass. Except, that is, the mistletoe hanging from several of the rafters and archways. A buffet-style dinner will be served from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at which point, the buffet tables and seating tables will be cleared away to make room for the makeshift stage for the DJ and a gigantic dance floor.

Drinks will be flowing, music will be playing, and people will be bidding on silent auctions to win everything from one of the centerpieces to a date with their favorite imPort and everything in between. So, eat, drink, and be merry until you can't stay awake any longer. Why not? It's all for a good cause, after all.

Oh Sal, don't think you can just hide away against a wall to avoid dancing. Not when someone like Kenzi is around. Kenzi who has been far too cheerful and energetic the entire evening.

She slips up beside Sal, surprisingly silent despite the poofy dress -- the music helps mask any noise she might make at least. "Wallflowering isn't allowed." A devious little grin on her lips as she speaks.

[personal profile] thecacophony 2019-12-22 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Sal notices some movement coming towards her, but when she finally looks up to see who's interrupting her very clear avoidance of dancing, she still manages an honest look of surprise. At Kenzi's assertion? Maybe. At that dress? Definitely.

"Well shit, look at the fucking princess who graces us with her presence tonight."

She slips the book back into her pocket, as a friendly face deserves more of her attention than just a cursory glance up. Offering her an exaggerated up and down perusal of this elegant and poofy dress, Kenzi is afforded a crooked half-grin for her efforts. Never one to back down from a chance to be cheeky and dramatic, she does a small curtsy too; the comparatively old-fashioned suit helps to give it that extra touch. "You're not here to lure me away from my watch post, are you?"

There's just so much pink with some silver accenting. Her hair (a wig), her mask-like makeup, her nails -- just so much. The thing that's a little out of place with the whole get-up is the golden headpiece that resembles Lokie's only smaller.

Kenzi sticks her tongue out before dipping into a princess-like curtsy of her own. "Can you blame a gal for wanting to live up her childhood fantasies of being a princess for a night?" She responds as she pops back up with a grin. Her hand moves up to make sure the headpiece hasn't slipped.

"Maaaaaybe. I could use a dance partner." Sal is probably not the first person she's approached for a dance since the floor opened up and she would not be the last.

[personal profile] thecacophony 2019-12-22 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sal lets out a small laugh and shakes her head. She gestures over Kenzi's shoulder to the dance floor. And she'll admit that the rest of the party-goers who are entertaining this new (to her) idea on revelry seem pretty fucking pleased with themselves. Some of it also looks like they've had a bad batch of Thesha and were in the middle of a convulsion, but—no, on second thought, she's not afraid to judge.

"As much as I'd like to dance with a pretty, pink princess," she explains, "I think I've found myself a little out of my fucking element. Are parties usually...like this here?"

Sal makes a really broad gesture with her arms. Plenty indication that she is, apparently, very new to this kind of scene.

[personal profile] heartstings 2019-12-22 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Her gaze follows Sal's pointing on for her to chuckle. "Some people just shouldn't dance." Oh, yes, she's going to judge. She's classically trained in ballet and a frequent party goer so she knows how to dance.

"What? You don't know how to shake your groove thang?" Kenzi teases as she turns her attention back to Sal and does a little shimmy. "Depends on the party, but yeah. Though I'm sure they'll put on a slow jam at some point if that's more your speed."

[personal profile] thecacophony 2019-12-22 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Sal's vocabulary definitely hasn't evolved all the way to slow jam as yet, but she feels like she knows what Kenzi's meant to imply there. It might be better, admittedly, but that also might be worse in some respects. Either way, she's got this sinking feeling that her frilly, pink acquaintance won't be satisfied until she has her out on that dance floor.

Where's a convenient brawl when you need it?

"No, fuck it, go ahead and show me the cultural intricacies of the groove thang," Sal relents with a sigh. Arguing with pretty women in delicate dresses isn't on her itinerary for tonight anyway. What did that guy say on the network? "Own your happiness"? Well, whatever he originally meant, apparently now it includes learning the local dance.

She holds out her hand. "But just one of them. Then I'm back to my fucking book."

[personal profile] heartstings 2019-12-22 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Let Kenzi teach you all the slang, Sal.

A gala isn't the kind of place for a brawl but if that's something Sal wants Kenzi could arrange it for another time.

She grins while her wings give a happy little flutter behind her when Sal agrees. "First thing, groove thangs just means your butt. It's also the title of a song."

"One is fine with me," she responds cheerfully as she takes Sal's hand and leads her out onto the dancefloor. "Just follow my lead and remember to keep it loose."

[personal profile] thecacophony 2019-12-24 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, yeah, I know how to take orders," Sal says, but that grumpiness seems feigned now. Being coaxed into actually, you know, trying to enjoy herself for a few minutes is really for the best; whether or not she wants to admit it. Hand in hand, she lets herself be lead toward the dancing.

Now, whether or not it's true and she can actually pay attention and follow along remains to be seen. She tries to take a breath and relax a little, loosen up her shoulders. Looking to Kenzi for instruction, she waits until they're in the middle of the throng before speaking up.

"So, how's this shit done?"
heartstings: (☠ silently screamed)

[personal profile] heartstings 2019-12-25 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
For the night Kenzi's forced herself into a place of being cheerful and she figures if she has to put up the front she might as well force other people to actually have some fun. Or at least make an attempt at it.

"Depends on the song but I'd say this one is more in the hips." She takes a moment to find the beat and then begins to move along with it. "Just find the beat and move with it. But, y'know, don't be like that guy." With a laugh, she jerks her head toward a guy that looks like he's trying to get ants out of his pants."

[personal profile] thecacophony 2019-12-28 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nobody wants to be that guy," she agrees. Sal has to watch for a moment, trying to figure the movement our or trying to talk herself into just going with the flow of this. Truthfully, she is stuck here for who knows how long, so she's going to have to figure out all of these customs sooner or later.

"Is this your usual definition of fun?" She says it out of curiosity. And thankfully, it's not just fighting that Sal is capable at—soon enough she's imitating the dancing Kenzi's doing, even if it's obviously a little more subdued. Maybe the mood will catch on slowly.
heartstings: (☠ if we ever see the sun)

[personal profile] heartstings 2019-12-28 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, really."

Kenzi's watching Sal as she tries to figure things, finding herself a little surprised when she starts to get the hang of it. Though she realizes she probably shouldn't. The woman was definitely a fighter and if there's one thing she's learned over the years dancing and fighting go together quite nicely.

"Partying it up and dancing the night away? It's def, like, one of my top fives." She spends most weekends going out clubs so she can drink, dance, and flirt. So clearly she enjoys it.

[personal profile] thecacophony 2019-12-31 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sal keeps a casual watch on Kenzi's moves, and the dancing becomes more natural the longer she lets herself be on the floor instead of simply sulking and leaning against a wall. Just maybe, it does feel a little better to me moving around, actually exerting some energy; she's trying to keep her opinion on it up in the air.

"Speaking of a good time, you ever decide on what to do with that old place of yours?" It's only been a little while, and Sal hasn't managed to forget about it yet. "You know, make it into a bar or a boarding house?"

She can't help but ask.
heartstings: (☠ you're on your own)

[personal profile] heartstings 2019-12-31 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Sal loosening up brings a genuine smile to Kenzi's face. It's good to see others having a bit of fun with her being the reason they actually do it.

"Not yet. Turns out there's more cleanup than I thought and I still have to see about getting the gas and electricity and all that turned back on." A sigh. "Who knew fixing up a place would cost so much money? The Clubhouse was never this expensive."

[personal profile] thecacophony 2020-01-01 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
The Clubhouse? Sal looks curious, but she tries keeping herself on topic. And you know what? If she really had to allow herself to be dragged out here and have some semblance of fun, she's finding it hard to regret that it was Kenzi who did it.

She puts her petty irritations on the back-burner for now.

"Wealthy, generous patrons don't grow on fucking trees I guess," she says. "What about some shit like this? A fundraiser for the betterment of the community, or something saccharine like that, should get a few people fired up anyway."

The Clubhouse might not be as cool as it sounds. But it was the nickname Kenzi and Bo gave their home.

Kenzi grins a little. "Actually. I might have a couple of peeps I can get some investments from. I just kinda wanna do it myself, y'know?" It's a bit of a matter of pride and she's not really in any rush to decide if she wants the place to be an open pub again or not.
