Winter Gala

WHO: Everyone
WHERE: Jeopardy
WHEN: Saturday, December 21 from 5:00 p.m. onward into the early morning hours of Sunday, December 22.
WHAT: The Winter Gala Fundraiser for Jeopardy Relief Efforts
WARNINGS: Please include any necessary warnings in your TLs.
NOTES: This post will serve as a catch-all for logs for the entire event (though you’re also welcome to post things elsewhere, of course).

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Well, mostly. In the wake of a near-apocalyptic event, the city of Jeopardy is in need. What started out as an idea to advertise Rikki Chadwick's burgeoning business, after a little more planning and nabbing some ideas from Kenzi's post, she and Rupert have reconfigured and rebranded their idea to focus less on her and more on the relief effort.

Characters will enter the venue after giving a small donation at the door and they will be greeted by a large room lit in blues, soft pinks, and purples. From the ceilings hang snowflakes made of glass. The centerpieces are also made of glass. Come to think of it, nearly all the decorations are made of glass. Except, that is, the mistletoe hanging from several of the rafters and archways. A buffet-style dinner will be served from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at which point, the buffet tables and seating tables will be cleared away to make room for the makeshift stage for the DJ and a gigantic dance floor.

Drinks will be flowing, music will be playing, and people will be bidding on silent auctions to win everything from one of the centerpieces to a date with their favorite imPort and everything in between. So, eat, drink, and be merry until you can't stay awake any longer. Why not? It's all for a good cause, after all.

Kang | OTA

Mingling

Kang's switched up his wardrobe a little for this event. Instead of wearing his usual dark blue, he's gone for something a little bolder: a black kilt, an off white tunic, and a wine red cloak. He's also pulled out the thick gold chain necklace that is a symbol of his position back home, freshly polished and gleaming in the light along with the dark bronze of his scales.

He's in a good mood, having just finished his finals for the semester, and will chat with anyone he recognizes or approaches him, a drink in hand and a smile on his face. He might even dance with one or two people that he particularly likes.

For the most part, he manages to avoid standing under the mistletoe, but there's a few moments when he forgets or is distracted by a conversation and leaves an opening for anyone that's brave enough to try to kiss a seven foot tall draconian.

Bidding and Auction

Also surprising for him, he'd decided to offer himself up as a platonic date for the silent auction. The money does go to a good cause, and the imPorts are responsible for summoning Clotho and Lachesis, and thus the damage to Jeopardy, even if it was to save the multiverse. It's just one night, after all.

Looking through the other options, he does place a bid on one person that he has shared interests with. When the winners are announced, he learns that he was outbid and Loki has won him.

He doesn't know much about this person beyond him claiming to be a god. It's going to be an interesting night.

Post Auction

In all fairness, Loki himself doesn't know much about the beings he bid on. Most of his bids were placed for the fun of it, the rest to be a pain in someone's side. That he does end up with a few wins is unexpected at best. And yet the Asgardian sets out to find the poor souls he gets to spent some time with.

The draconian at least is easy enough to locate. And while Loki's ridiculously large helmet has by then be reshaped into a less imposing (yet still remotely ridiculous) headpiece of similar design, he might still stick out well enough as he weaves his way through the gathered beings with a certain grace to himself.

"Kang, I presume." He greets Kang with a short nod upon reaching his position "I am Loki of Asgard."
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2019-12-23 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
No one can really forget seeing a helmet like that, but wasn't it bigger in that network post he'd seen? Oh well. He smiles, hiding his apprehension, and holds out his scar-covered hand in greeting. "That's me. Well met, Loki."
tricksterofasgard: (I will not bow)

Now that the holiday madness is over...

[personal profile] tricksterofasgard 2019-12-27 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"A pleasure to meet you." The Asgardian replies, accepting the offered hand. He may not be familiar with whatever species Kang is a member of, but that doesn't matter much to him, pleasant as it is to meet a few more beings that aren't mere humans.

"I believe we get to spent some time together at some point in the future." And he may well look forward to that.
governorkang: (Having a good day)

"Yes, we do. It's the first time I've done such a thing, so you'll have to forgive any, ah, awkwardness on my part," he smiles wryly. "I hope you won't end up regretting your bid."

He takes a look around the venue, sipping from his whiskey. "Have you enjoyed the gala so far?"
tricksterofasgard: (Fall!)

[personal profile] tricksterofasgard 2019-12-29 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Worry not, my friend. I do not tend to hold grudges over trivialities." Loki says in a perfectly believable tone, disregarding the fact that, well. He does hold petty grudges over many trivial things. Though at least it's true that awkwardness isn't on that list.

"And I must admit that I find this event quite enjoyable." the Asgardian goes on, his eyes briefly catching on a decorative snowflake made of glass "I wasn't sure what to expect of this gala. But I feel that my expectations would have been outshone by what has been set up here this evening." An actual praise. Loki is incredibly glad that he hasn't walked into something more akin to a feast here.
governorkang: (This is fun / Go fish!)

[personal profile] governorkang 2020-01-01 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Kang nods, "Well, that's good to hear." The last thing he needs is to get on a god's shit list.

"It is a good one. The humans of this world aren't nearly as stuffy as on mine, though I can't speak of Krynnish galas from experience. I just know how insufferable the nobles and knights can be," he grins. "I can just imagine their faces if any of them were here to see this gala, or me attending it."
tricksterofasgard: (All those schemes)

[personal profile] tricksterofasgard 2020-01-02 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Loki hardly bothers to hold back a short laugh, keeping a grin on his face "Insufferable and noble are practically synonyms. It's the universal truth of nobility and royal courts." A short, one-handed gesture underlines his words. But something else has caught his interest.

"Your kind shares a planet with humans?"
governorkang: (Looking up)

[personal profile] governorkang 2020-01-04 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
"It's comforting to know that some things never change, no matter where you are," he shrugs.

He nods, "Yes, and many other races. Dwarves, elves, gnomes, kender, ogres... and that's just some of the more common ones. Humans from Earth liken my world to their fantasy novels. For all I know, it might be a fantasy novel in some other universe." He's had some time to get used to the idea of it, strange as it is.
tricksterofasgard: (Off into dreamland)

[personal profile] tricksterofasgard 2020-01-04 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"That might well be." Loki says with a short, knowing nod "My own people have myths and legends written about them on our version of Earth. There are similar myths to be found in the libraries on this planet, even. Though I must say that the ones here are decidedly wilder than the ones I came across on the Midgard I know to be part of the nine realms."

At least he has come to accept the fact that these myths exist - And that they like to depict him as the villain. Which had been a disheartening discovery at first and an image Loki has tried to fend off, but in the end there may never have been a choice after all.

He mentally pushes those thoughts aside. Nothing to dwell on here.

"I do enjoy the fantasy genre, though. Asgardians may be millennia ahead technology-wise, but a lot of them aren't very creative or harbor much enthusiasm for the arts."
governorkang: (Home / Hatchlings are a handful)

[personal profile] governorkang 2020-01-05 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Kang pauses, thinking on where he's heard some of these names before. They do sound a little familiar from one of his literature classes. It doesn't take him long, though. "Ah, Norse, yes? My focus has been more on the science and technology of this world, rather than the mythology. I know it's not likely, but there is still a very slim chance that I may be able to take that knowledge home with me one day."

"And you do prefer the arts?"
tricksterofasgard: (Count me in violent)

[personal profile] tricksterofasgard 2020-01-05 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Loki nods "The mortals came to call it Norse mythology, yes. Should you ever bother to give it a look: Most of it is pure fiction. Humans have always been a creative kind, it appears." And given what Loki has come to learn through the internet and after being set on various fan cultures, he is quite inclined to believe that those myths are in fact little more than the fanfiction humans these days have so much easier ways to spread and access.

"And you might say I prefer the arts, yes. Or anything that requires a little intelligence and creativity to fully indulge in." No need to tell his new acquaintance that he also enjoys sowing chaos and plain watching the resulting madness. That also counts as a form of art, does it?

Raising a curious brow, the Asgardian tilts his head "You take interest in the technology of this realm?"
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2020-01-09 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"I just might." He has a few weeks until classes start again. It might be a good idea to start learning more about the various religions of Earth.

"Is that your particular domain? Arts and creativity?"

The visible perking of his wing tips by two or three inches is definitely proof, if his response isn't enough. "Oh, yes. The most advanced technology we have is siege engines and crossbows. Not even printing presses. Sure, we have magic to do some things, but it has its own limitations."
tricksterofasgard: (I hereby permit you to leave my sight)

[personal profile] tricksterofasgard 2020-01-09 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not necessarily." Loki says, sounding amused. Though in its own way it could fit just as well. He makes sure to put on an innocent face "If you are to look anyway, you will find me called names such as god of mischief, lies, sometimes even evil or chaos. Sometimes I think they don't particularly like me."

But myths are what they are. Setting that aside, he raises a finger.

"If you are intrigued by Midgardian technology already, I might show you a little basic Asgardian technology. If your people are already familiar with magic, you might as well go a step further and fuse both."
governorkang: (This is fun / Go fish!)

[personal profile] governorkang 2020-01-11 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Kang shrugs, "Not to worry. The only god I've ever served was of the evil persuasion - my kind aren't inclined towards the gods of light." He hasn't lied to anyone here about his nature yet, and he's not about to start.

"That would be much appreciated. I want to learn as much as I can while I'm stuck on this world."

This might not end up being a bad decision after all. So far, Loki seems pretty alright for a god.
tricksterofasgard: (Fall!)

[personal profile] tricksterofasgard 2020-01-12 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Loki offers a shrug "Well, I do not require anyone's servitude. Never asked for it." Not in that sense, at least. He'd rather hypnotize a simple mind to get what he wants from them and calls it a day.

He offers a smile.

"And I am glad to assist when it comes to educating someone. I don't assume we have to settle on a fixed date for when we are to meet right away?"
governorkang: (Having a good day)

[personal profile] governorkang 2020-01-13 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
"You're already a step above many of the gods of my world, then," he says dryly.

"No, of course not. I'm sure you have a busy schedule, as do I. I'd rather enjoy the gala tonight - we can figure out those details another time."
