[ open ] can't make it all alone
WHO: Zelda Spellman & you
WHERE: Maurtia Falls #001, Heropa
WHEN: Near the Solstice
WHAT: Zelda prepares for the holiday

MAURTIA FALLS #001 [ closed to occupants or vistors ]
As the Solstice approaches, Zelda is getting into the holiday spirit. Granted, what that spirit looks like is relative. While she's done nothing to encroach on any decor or celebration the other inhabitants of the house may partake in, she has her own way of doing things, too. This is why it won't be unusual to find a few festive inverted pentagrams here and there and Zelda spending her evenings relaxed on the couch, a burning cigarette in hand, drinking a glass of gin and paging through a haunted holiday classic.
Come the night before the Solistice, she places a Yule log into the fireplace and lights it, keeping a close eye on it as the flames lick around it. She's eager to inform everyone of its importance; "The lit Yule log protects this house, and bars all manner of evil and mischevious spirits. It is of the utmost importance that it stays lit through the Solistice when the veil is at its thinnest -- especially with all the strange occurrences as of late."
HEROPA
Zelda isn't blind to what's been going on around the country the last couple of weeks, but since it hadn't seemed to directly affect her she hadn't seemed to particularly care. This means business as usual - although, for today, that business is in the sunny city of Heropa, Zelda's least favorite place. She pursuing an outdoor shopping mall, wearing a large-brimmed, black hat (it's no wonder why those once had been so fashionable among witches) and dark sunglasses, examing the stalls and shops for the things she needs. While it might be unbelievable, she's Christmas shopping. Although she would never admit it, Sabrina is enamored with the ridiculous holiday and a gift would make her happy. And if Zelda gets Sabrina a gift, it's rude to not get everyone a gift, right?
And maybe even a few little things for herself. The sales are good this time of year, after all.
She's in a good enough mood up until she encounters a man dressed up as Santa--complete with a beard and mistletoe patterned board shorts in honor of the sunny weather--who has probably nipped at the eggnog a bit too much. He starts to follow her around which is at first a novelty and then becomes incredibly annoying, to the point where she finally speeds into the nearest store, turning around to wave her hand at the door before she can be further followed.
"Vobis non transeat." Although unassuming shoppers won't have an issue coming in and out, drunk board-short Santa will find himself left out in the cold - so to speak. Zelda takes a minute to get her bearings, finally looking around in the store which has turned out to be a very obnoxious Christmas decoration store. Every surface is covered with baubles and grinning snowmen and colorful nativities, and Zelda's likely to be there for a long, long while yet.
She lets out an ever-suffering sigh. "Well, this certainly limits my options."

"I think it is," she replies, a few moments later when she raises her head again. "I think if you intended to hurt any of us, it seems like you could have done so. But you haven't. So that's good for me. Why is it that you don't like mortals, though...?" She then hastily adds, "Uhm, if you wanna share. It's not any of my business, now that I think about it."
no subject
And chances are it would have been left there, but... Zelda likes the sound of her own voice too much to not elaborate.
"Humans and witches were never intended to mingle. We are decedents of Lilith, and our powers have been granted to us by Satan who we owe our fealty. Humans are ephemeral beings, the False God's flight of fancy, and where you are likely headed, child, has no place for us."
Which really, is fine. Hell for mortals is no picnic. They're far better off in their stupid little Heaven.
"However, that hasn't always remained true. Sabrina being a prime example."
no subject
"That doesn't seem fair," Tina finally says quietly. "Especially in this world, it's not like you chose to be placed with us. You're mingling with us 'cause you kinda have to. I guess that's a pretty simple way of looking at it, though. ... and honestly, I'm, uh, not sure what to say about the rest of that."
no subject
Granted, that had been proving to be more and more of a problem the longer she was here.
"There are some things that shouldn't be questioned." It's a weak response, but she doesn't have a better one, and Zelda is far too stubborn to admit anything otherwise. "Certain balances need to be maintained, regardless of what realm we find ourselves in. Believe me, if there are certain beings that find their way here, you'll be thankful to not find yourself entangled with them."

But Zelda lives here, and she does feel some responsibility for the children, and she's not going to get Tina into a spin thinking otherwise. So she'll just leave it.
"Don't be mistaken, Yule is a positive time for witches, too." That's not untrue. Positive is just a little more complicated for witches. "We share... some traditions. For different reasons, of course."

"I understand. My sister..." Oh, Hilda. They've been dependent on each other for so long, some days Zelda feels she's missing a limb, what with her sister so far away. "But find comfort in the fact that you will see them again. I'm sure of it."

She reaches out, placing her hand delicately on Tina's shoulder.
"You'll see your mother again. But as long as she is present in your mind, she's here with you. That's the way things work. Family is never far."
no subject
"And at least I know she and Dad and my siblings are safe. They don't know that I've gone. Otherwise I'd feel a lot worse about the whole thing."
no subject
Luckily, Zelda can be here to keep an eye on Sabrina. While she knows Hilda is useless without her, Sabrina is her top priority in everything. As far as Zelda's concerned, that means she's better off here than there.
"How long was your mother here for?"
no subject
Tina thinks on that a moment.
"Mmm, just over a year, I think. She tried mothering so many of the teenagers here."
no subject
Hilda is far more capable than Zelda would give her credit but... Zelda knows her life would fall apart without Hilda, not that she would ever admit it.
"Resisting the urge to mother when one is a mother is difficult." Zelda's found that out first hand. As much as she will claim to hate mortals, it hasn't stopped her from taking the ones she lives with underwing. "Motherhood is a strong pull, and not one easily forgotten."
no subject
And there's that ache in Tina's chest- sharper than it has been in a while. That yearning to just be where she truly belongs, and the regret that the longer she spends here, the more difficult it is to have sharp, clear images of her beloved family, due to the distance between them.
"I can only imagine," Tina says. "And I'm glad she had an outlet for that, since she didn't have my siblings to chase after. I feel like I want to have kids of my own some day, just because she's set such a good example for me."
no subject
Zelda hadn't. But she did have Sabrina and she did consider herself Sabrina's mother. It would be the closest she's ever had.
"Well, settle in." Zelda rises, waving her arm to gesture for Tina to stay where she is. "I'll brew you some tea. It will help soothe your heart." Potions hadn't been Zelda's study--Hilda was the one who pursued kitchen witchery--but she knows a little. She can't fix homesickness, but a little magick would certainly soften it.
no subject
"I'd appreciate that, thank you," she replies with a smile.
